Whilst Nelson & Andy Johnson would both be perfect bench warmers next season, we already have Hill and Iceman/Bothroyd/DJ. "Free" transfers involve large sign on fees and then the substantial wages of course!
Think our money is better spent securing Green (or even better, Al-Habsi) and Diakite, then supplementing those 2 with Chris Samba or an equally dominant Central Defender. Not sure we need to acquire any others unless we release/sell most of the likes of Hill, Connolly, Derry, Buzsaky, Ephraim, Tommy Smith, DJ, Bothroyd, HH etc. AND are also not prepared to give Harriman, Doughty, Ehmer, Hewitt, Balanta & Andrade some First Team Squad experience.

Iceman, Bothroyd and DJ are all unlikely to be here next season.
Green is also a free transfer and appears we have already budgeted for Green considering its been reported that he's agreed terms with us. So not sure what your point was there, frankly.
And yet another 'I don't like this signing unless we are saving up money for Samba' type post. Seriously, I doubt Samba is coming and he would cost us a fortune in wages and transfer fee. We can get cheaper elsewhere.
These are steady signings of players Hughes knows and has worked with and can clearly play in his system and they don't cost us anything in transfers. Not every transfer is going to be a Chelsea or Man City type blockbuster.
I'm just grateful we are getting players in early this time so they will have a chance to get integrated.

Well said Nomar.
As far as I'm concerned Green and Nelson are good signings. Green is a great keeper and Nelson is very experienced plus has worked with Hughes before. Think of it like this, Hall and Gabbidon have both been released, Nelson is better than both, is probably on about the same wages as Gabbidon and will be good to have around the training ground.
AJ I'm not happy about. I will never forgive him for the way he celebrated his hat trick against us. He's scored 6 league goals in the last 3 seasons. Both Bothroyd and DJ are IMO better.

It appears we never had an agreement with Taiwo about having first refusal once his loan expired. I think Benfica are after him and he looks to be heading in their direction.

If i wanted to live in a lovely city in a beautiful country with great climate etc i would love to live in Lisboa, if i was a professional footballer i would want to play in the toughest and best league in european football. Having said that, as much as it was a joy to see Taiwo playing his football with a big smile on his face along with lots of passion, there are surely better options for a lot less money out there.

Ryan Nelsen signs with Queens Park Rangers
All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen has confirmed he has signed for English premier league club Queen's Park Rangers, is fit to play in the London Olympic Games and expects to be available for New Zealand's World Cup qualifying games.
Nelsen told The Press late last night from London that he had agreed to a one-year deal with the option of another season and had passed his medical at QPR.
The centre back said his signing was due to be announced early today [NZ Time] after QPR had informed Tottenham Hotspur, his former club, who he joined last February on a six-month contract.
Several clubs were chasing Nelsen but the Cantabrian said the chance to reunite with his former Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes at QPR was too good to turn down.
"I owe him pretty much everything,'' Nelsen said."He gave me my chance over here [at Blackburn in 2005].
"That was a big factor. I know Mark and his staff really well, they all really helped me when I was first over here in England, so it's nice to go full circle towards the end of my career.
"Hopefully, I can still help them out.''
QPR finished 17th out of 20 in the premier league last season, narrowly avoiding relegation in their first season back in the top flight.
But Nelsen said the future looked "quite exciting'' for the west London club."They've got a lot of ambition... it seems like it's going to be a good fit.''
Nelsen made eight appearances for fourth-placed Spurs, scoring one goal and helping them reach the FA Cup semi-final after switching from Blackburn, where he played around 200 games.
He was signed as defensive cover by former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, who told the media after Nelsen scored against Bolton Wanderers in the cup that he would be offering the Kiwi a new deal for next season.
But Nelsen said Spurs' failure to make the European Champions League after Chelsea won the ECL title to grab the fourth English berth had "changed the makeup for all parties involved''.
But he had nothing but praise for Redknapp, who left Spurs this week, and club chairman Daniel Levy and said he would be proud "to be able to say I played for Tottenham''.
"I love the club. I really enjoyed my time there, it was a fantastic experience, a really good club with some great people.''
Nelsen's former United States Major League Soccer club DC United was interested in signing him and Nelsen said returning to America, his wife Monica's homeland, was "a consideration''.
Ad Feedback
"But I always thought you should play at the highest level as long as you and when it came down to it, playing in the premier league is a real privilege. I wanted to keep going and keep enjoying the challenge that playing in the best league in the world provides.
"It's really motivating, to tell the truth. I'm looking forward to getting another year under my belt after a disjointed season with the injury and moving clubs.''
Nelsen missed the All Whites' ill-fated Oceania Nations Cup tournament in the Solomon Islands with an ankle problem.
He said he was "devastated for the guys and the team'' at the All Whites' 2-0 semi-final loss to New Caledonia which cost them a place in the Oceania final and a potential place at the 2013 Confederations Cup finals in Brazil.
"Going to the Confederations Cup is really valuable. The guys who played in the one in South Africa [in 2009] before the World Cup finals, really benefited from it.
"It's a huge loss and there should be some tough questions about went wrong. I'm sure New Zealand Football are doing that at the present moment.''
The All Whites face a World Cup home-and-away qualifying series against New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands and new Oceania champions Tahiti.
Nelsen said QPR would have to release him for the World Cup games "because they fall in the Fifa [international] window''.
After clinching the QPR deal, he has flown back to the US to resume a family holiday. But the 34-year-old - one of three permitted over-age players in the New Zealand under-23 Olympic squad - expects to link up with the team for warm-up matches in Japan and South Korea in mid-July.

Ok maybe not Bothroyd, he should be sold ASAP but DJ is better I reckon. Much better goal scoring record over the last 3 seasons than Johnson plus we haven't even seem him fully fit yet. He is probably on less wages than Johnson as well.
Changing the subject, do you reckon you will go to many games next season??

What does that mean for Tremoulinas? The best positive I can think of is that Fabio will be older and will be a little more experinced. Dont always believe the mirror though.

Manchester United's young Brazilian left-back Fabio will be loaned to QPR next season.
Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson had already said he will farm out the 21-year-old to help his development.
While Portuguese giants Benfica were keen, Ferguson would prefer him to go to another Premier League club.
QPR boss Mark Hughes, who played for Fergie at United, wants a new left-back to provide competition for Armand Traore now Taye Taiwo's loan spell from AC Milan has ended.
The busy Hoops are close to free-agent deals with England keeper Rob Green and ex-Fulham striker Andy Johnson and also want Wigan forward Victor Moses.
While Fabio packs his bags for west London, his twin brother Rafael will sign a new four-year deal with United.

Apologies Rory. I didn't spot the "offer of a lift" bit so my reply of "I sincerely hope so" appears to be very rude if applied to the lift part. I was really referring to attendance at games. Thanks for the kind offer which saves me a huge amount of hassle especially as my arthritis is now becoming really a problem.

Rafael close to new United deal Fabio primed for loan move to Queens Park Rangers By Paulo Freitas. Last Updated: June 16, 2012 10:01am
Fabio (L) and Rafael (R): Manchester United's twins are set to be parted next season
Rafael's agent claims the full-back is set to sign a new contract at Manchester United and that his twin brother Fabio is ready to join Queens Park Rangers on loan.
Brazil international Rafael has made over 80 appearances for United since joining the club in 2008, although his opportunities have been restricted by injury.
The 21-year-old is an important part of the Red Devils' future plans and reports suggest he is ready to finalise an extension to stay at Old Trafford until 2016.
His agent Cassiano Pereira told Estadao ESPN: "Rafael is very happy to stay at Manchester United, who are one of the giants of world football and always play in Europe's biggest competitions.
"Manchester United are the club that opened the door to Europe for him. He is loved, respected and has prestige at the club.
"We are all very happy that he is renewing his contract."
Experience
However, Rafael's sibling Fabio is set to head out on loan next season to build up his first-team experience and is being lined up for a switch to QPR.
Fabio has made 53 appearances for United and was a target for Benfica, but Pereira says staying in the Premier League will be more beneficial for the defender's long-term career.
Pereira added: "Fabio is a promising player and he needs to play. Because of that, Alex Fergusonsuggested that he be loaned out to get more experience.
"He is a sought-after player because he is still young, and we think that his transfer to QPR was the best decision at the time.
"We received some offers from Germany and Portugal, but he preferred to stay in England to remain in touch with the country's football style and so that he would not have a problem to adapt to it when he returned to United."

if i could have only one signing for QPR it would be samba, this footballer is immense, defending and at set pieces attacking.
he will dominate both penalty area's, save some goals and score a fair few also.
i reckon this is hughes no1 target no doubt, and my money is on us getting him.

i reckon this is hughes no1 target no doubt, and my money is on us getting him. |

Let's hope so Maude.
I think if I could have one player it would be Adam Johnson .

Would be nice to have a dominating Center Half... That's probably our #1 need assuming Green really is done. Obviously always more players in various positions, but if you look at what most needs to be done, I'd say that was it. (Doesn't mean has to be first signing. But perhaps most important signing)
