Derry: I thought QPR were down
« Thread Started on May 15, 2012, 3:40pm »

SHAUN Derry admits he thought QPR were relegated when Sergio Aguero smashed a dramatic injury-time winner for Manchester City on Sunday.

Ten-man Rangers were 2-1 up at the Etihad and looked safe until Edin Dzeko and Aguero (pictured) scored in added time to snatch the title for the Blues in a nail-biting finale.

With Bolton winning at Stoke at half-time, Derry concedes he thought the R's had blown it.

But Mark Hughes's men beat the drop anyway after Stoke scored a leveller which meant QPR had survived.

Derry said: “When that third goal went in I wasn't sure what was happening at Stoke, I thought we had really ballsed it up.

“I thought we were down. I was engulfed in the game but I glanced over to our fans. I knew at half-time Bolton were winning and we would've been down and out.

“I was devastated but looked up and saw the QPR fans celebrating. I'm so proud of the boys.

“It was an incredible performance from the boys, especially when you consider what it was all about.”

Goals from Djibril Cisse and Jamie Mackie looked like giving QPR a shock victory at the Etihad, despite playing half an hour a man short after Joey Barton's crazy red.

Derry added: “We had a game plan to sit back and defend and it worked a treat. We conceded just before half-time, which was a bit of a low point.

“But the longer it went on the more chance we had of getting something from the game.”

Appears some players knew and some didn't. Not that it matters, we stayed up on merit as we got more points than Bolton.

Amazing really when you look at our run in over the last 10 games and look at Bolton and Blackburn's last 10 games.

No one in their right mind gave us a chance so the lads deserve all the credit in the world.

Derry has little or no idea what's going on around him so hardly surprising news!

Might have to watch it again to see if I can see his reaction! lol.

I think he's a bit of a comedian actually. ;D

I think it was either Derry or Hill (or even both) hitting the ground after the third goal went in.

Hill was hitting the ground, Derry laid prostrate on the ground.
