I certainly remember Dave Sexton very well indeed. He was the QPR Manager who caused me less trouble and fewer headaches than any other. Always quiet and laid back no matter what chaos was going on around him. A nice man but with one peculiar habit.
After a particularly fraught training session or disappointing game, he would walk into my office and sit down on a chair in the corner, staring into space. I would say "Good Morning, Dave" but he never said a word, just sat there. I would try to make conversation, talking about players or the last result, but he never replied. After about 15 minutes, he would get up and walk out, still not saying anything. I eventually realised that he just wanted to be left alone to escape from whatever was happening on the pitch. From then onwards, I ignored him whenever he came into my office to sit down. It worked splendidly.
