 Support where your from!
« Thread Started on Apr 26, 2012, 7:57pm »

Was with my eldest girl walking through golders hill park and keeper shouted 'u rrrrs' ... Said you never see a hoop shirt on kids! Sort of proud she loves hoops like her dad and this fella acknowledged . Schooled in finchley but always lived in Brent but can report start a campaign to support your local club as its hard on our young ones when all are supporting who's at the top of the table , rather than who binds us all!

Am I being soft .. Bet many fans think the same!

U rrs

No I agree. I could have supported Man Utd, West Ham, Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs. When I started following football I didn't support a team at first and those were the teams people tried to persuade me to support. I chose QPR because that's where I was born and I've never looked back since. Best decision I have ever made.

As Danny baker once said! Never trust a man who supports a football club whose floodlights he can't see from his bedroom window.

I am a glory-hunting QPR supporter. Coming from Chelmsford all of my brother's friends supported West Ham, and he decided to go against the grain and support the Hoops (must have been mid to late 70s). Zip forward many years to the 92-93 season and my brother gave me his season ticket as he was getting posted overseas and I was in Reading, making the trip to Loftus Road pretty easy.

That season we came 5th and I thought that the Mighty Rs were just about the best thing that I had watched (underdogs making good). Little did I know what was about to ensue over the next 15-16 years ;)

I guess the gist of that story is that it doesn't really matter where you come from, as long as you make the right choice at the end :)

Didnt know you were from Chelmsford originally Fraser , cool , like you even more now [image]
Harlow is nearly all West Ham and Spurs fans , we have a Spurs shop here aswell .
There the two most regular shirts i see but must say over the last 10-15 yrs have seen alot more Hoops , possibly some families moving from London to the outskirts etc .
Quite regular see Hoops shirts now and often have a chat .
Going back to roots always thought it was weird my grandad supported QPR coming from West Hendon would have thought it was Arsenal territory but he made his choice and i followed it and wouldnt have it any other way.

Oddly enough a few QPR have been poking their heads up out here this season. I've met two in the last week alone and found out on this site about another involved in the NZ ladies football team. It's great to see. Even saw another QPR number plate on a Taxi the other week.

Well I tried. I was born in North London (Finchley funny enough) and was a Gooner until I was 7 but my dad was Shepherds Bush born and bred and, as he wouldn't take me to Highbury, I was indoctrinated at an early age.

Actual, that was 40 years ago this year!

I live in Bedfordshire now but I did see a guy wearing the Hoops in our local Aldi the other day.

Well I grew up in Stamford Hill surrounded by Arsenal and Spurs supporters. I think QPR chose me rather than the other way around.

It was unlikely I was going to support little Stevenage when I was younger
For anybody that is interested about growth of a small team let me give you some amazing facts about my local team

Stevenage Football Club was only Founded in 1976.

They joined the United Counties League in 1980 and enjoyed instant success; winning the United Counties League Division One and the United Counties League Cup in the club's first year of formation.

Following three promotions in four seasons in the early 1990s, the club were promoted to the Conference National in 1994.

Despite winning the league in the 1995–96 season, the club were denied promotion to the Football League due to insufficient ground facilities.

The club has also enjoyed success in national cup competitions in recent years, becoming the first team to win a competitive final at the new Wembley Stadium in 2007, beating Kidderminster Harriers 3–2 to lift the FA Trophy in front of a competition record crowd of 53,262. The club won the competition again in 2009, beating York City 2–0.

And of course won promotion last season and are challenging for a play off place to the championship this season.

Not to bad I suppose

I was living in Airdrie; north of the border for you southern softies. When my life was transformed by Pannini stickers that I had just bought from Daziels the newsagents, they made me choose QPR. My life has been ruined by Pannini stickers.

Still love the smell of them; the sticky back one's. Does that make me strange??

I treat Pannini stickers like tarot cards now, I am convinced my future can be told by someone who can read them. I've got Gus Ceasur and Ernie Howe, can anyone tell me what that means?? [image] [image]

For those not in the know, QPR Airdrie is our most southern based fan in the world. Along with that lady that works for the Otago Daily Times. He lives the furtherest away from loftus Road than anyone. Although some snidy slob might consider that he is not a real QPR fan, but the rest of us know differently.

I was born and bred in Penshurst NSW, named after the town in Kent UK.
I have supported QPR for over 40 years. Supporters of other clubs, mainly Manua, think that I am weird when I tell them, that I am a Super Hoops fan, stare at me with their usual vacant look, and say "but why QPR."

This should be applauded. Of course people born next door to Loftus Road should have no choice but to support the Mighty Rs, but which (non-immigrant to the UK) QPR fan was born furthest away from Loftus Road? This has got to be a contender.

Well, I was born in W12 so that was how I started going to LR with Dad. A few coincidences on reading through this thread. Fraser: As you will see, I now live in Maldon - just down the road to Chelmsford.
Fabs: I know Finchley well. Used to live in Totteridge - again very near by.
Blueeyed: My son used to go to a special school near Penshurst (Kent).
