 Why I don't like Zamora
« Thread Started on Apr 23, 2012, 4:54pm »

CPR Edit: Revert.

Am I the only one who is bitterly disappointed by Bobby Zamora's performances in a QPR shirt so far? I normally not keen on slagging our own players but Bobby is on massive wages and for what?

What I don't like about him:

(1) He just looks like he doesn't want to be here, he looks disinterested most of the time. Given where we are in the league, that is unacceptable. We need to fight for every point.

(2) He has been rubbish so far. He doesn't run and for a tall guy like him he isn't a great header of the ball

(3) His hold-up play has been disappointing. He drops down the floor too quickly and seems to be hoping for a free kick more than anything else most of the time

(4) Where are the goals? I can live with strikers who work their socks off and try to score but just don't get there, but Bobby doesn't even try very hard.

All in all very disappointing so far. Let's hope we can sell him to West Ham in the Summer

I think Hughes likes him! I think a couple of weeks ago, called him the best target man in the Premiership (or something like that)

Best in the league at that job, and to read on here he looks 'disinterested' is bollocks basically.

I actually have to agree with the OP here, I'm not a big fan of him so far. I also agree that he didn't look interested, especially against Spurs at the weekend.

His hold up play has been good but the rest is not impressive.

Well without making this thread more volatile, which of course dont want to do, I was disappointed in his play against

Spurs.

I thought Zamora showed great maturity (if lack of adventure) when he took the ball to the corner flag in the closing minutes...HOLD THAT LEAD...

I think his hold up play has been pretty decent. Lays the ball off well and builds links intelligently. The amount of times he has quietly collected the ball on his chest, three players all over him, and either finds a good pass or wins a foul...well, I've lost count.

He's a hold up player, brought into link with Cissé, who for the most part hasn't been on the pitch. It's not his job as such, but I agree he has been disappointing in front of goal, particularly the West Brom game comes to mind. But this is a player who has never flourished or been positioned to play in the "one up front" mould. He is programmed to hold up, he's not going to miraculously adapt in a few games. But in terms of playing his *current* role (i.e. marauding in the final third, picking up difficult balls and laying them off to our attacking midfielders, I think he has been very, very good. When Cissé is on with him, I think his link up play has been all the better.

As for not looking up for it, I don't see why anyone's fussed. I guarantee that if Zamora looked like the world was going to end every time he missed and ran about wildly but was useless, people would still be having a go at him. Just as if Mackie was awful - fortunately Mackie is having a brilliant season. But if he applied the same attitude with zero results, we wouldn't be starting him. Personally, I think Zamora isn't doing the best but I can see why and given the circumstances is having a decent run of games for us. As long as that continues, I couldn't care less about what he looks like he's thinking during games.

Don't tell me there's worse to come!
A run of home form that hopefully will save us, and is going to go down in history, might have more than a little to do with the player leading the line on his own against some of the best defenders in the Prem.
And his thanks, an article like this! unbelievable really :(

Completely agree. Obviously no-one is above criticism, but in terms of a holding player leading a line, alone, with the task of teeing up a range of attacking midfielders, against some of the best teams in the Prem...can't really see what else you can ask of Zamora really. If seeing him kissing the badge will float your boat, so be it, but cut the guy some slack...

He's playing 30 yards away from the rest of the team so not sure what else he can do but hold up the ball well

He could give it away/ignore it completely, works for Bothroyd.

Disagree Mr Hunt, the goals will come with Bobby, not prolific but he's a scorer.

Disagree mate, he has never been a goal scorer. Still pissed off at him for the chances he missed against WBA.

Everyone misses chances....Look at Defoe on Saturday.
Helguson has been dynamite...But his record of missing...

I'd say we have two class forwards in Zamora and Cisse and I'm glad to have them (As long as we're in the Prmiership!)

Unbelievable to slag him off. He worked his nuts off against Spurs, chasing back and holding the ball up. It's often what he does off the ball in chasing and retaining the shape of the team that doesn't get notice.

To the detractors, why not go the whole hog and boo him when we play Stoke? I guess we have you to thank for Barton's upturn in performance? Or maybe it is that he is just a decent player?

Bit over the top with the last comment.

His hold up play is excellent but if we are going to play with one striker we need someone who will score, like Cisse.

Your point is???

He is not an out and out goalscorer, he as always been a striker who holds the ball up and plays off of someone with pace like Johnson at Foolham.

At the moment I am not Bobby's biggest fan but I don't think he is a bad player. I prefer HH in that position though.

to the tune of shakira.,
"Oh no, the stats dont lie!"

not saying i dont like him, hes worked tirlessly in an unforgiving impossible task since he got here and cisse kept getting sent off every other game, and hes one of the best hold up players in the business. up there with heskey and nolan in their heydays.

I wish some people understood how difficult it is to play as a target man in the premiership against 4 top defenders
