Lads, A few years in another life, i was serving queen and country and a part time QPR fan living in East Devon, (when i was in the UK).At that time we were about to go into a dark abyss and not re-surface for another 17 odd years. We did have though, a manager at the top of his game, good tactician, good disciplinarian, and someone who ran the football club his way.................and then he left. I wrote a letter to GF asking him not to go............i did recieve a reply. Cheers, Jay

Yeah Mac,
Good point , he always seemed a blunt kind of bloke. At times i am not sure if he actually enjoyed football management as he always came over as quite negative, always reminding everyone how he didn't need the pressure of the job.Obviously there was 'previous' with Rodney which we will never find out about.Reading Rodneys book though(Loose Cannon)he reckons it was a Thompson set up.
Cheers,
Jay

Thanks for sharing your letter jayrigg, I didn't want Gerry to go either I remember the game very well before he left with Rodney Marsh sitting there with a QPR scarf around his neck like it was yesterday

Hi
I remember that period very well. It was, like when Venables left, a point at which you knew the future wasn't going to be as rosy. We could have gone on to great things if Gerry, and Les, had stayed.
Could we tempt him from Stoke if we go down and 'Sparky' (manager not cat) resigns?

Cheers, Jay That does beg the question as to why Thompson would want him out. Did they not get on at all? It sounds similar to Charlton getting rid of Curbishley because he couldn't get them higher than a top 10 finish in the Premier League. What a good decision that was!

thanks jay for that,
a very candid response from one of our great managers.
i recieved a letter from thompson around about the same time, more or less telling me that what francis said in your letter was true.
funny how we have letters on the same subject but two different sides at the same time. QPRfc have my letter and i'm trying to get it back.(long story)
