Goal hero Blackstock: Victory meant so much to Forest
DEXTER Blackstock saluted the Nottingham Forest faithful after his dramatic late strike earned the Reds a win in the battle against the drop.
And after firing his first goal for the club in the 3-2 win against Bristol City on Saturday, the on-loan QPR striker said he would do everything in his power to help the Reds stay up.
Blackstock said: "It is all about togetherness and we had nearly 23,000 for a club down at the wrong end of the Championship.
"That is great and we can get out of this.
"I have settled in great, know a lot of players from other clubs, international level so I have fitted in.
The celebrations on and off the pitch after the win were great. This is a big club and you look around at the stadium and stature of the club.
"In my eyes they should not even be in this division, let alone on the brink of going down to League One.
"I am sure if we can stay in this league then Forest will be looking up next season.
"It is massive to be out of the relegation zone. It is in our hands now. You could tell how big it was by the fans' reaction.
"It was a massive win for us."
Blackstock fired the winner in injury time, volleying home from inside the box before whipping his shirt off and being mobbed by fans.
"I caught it sweet – I could not have caught it better," he said. "I just thought 'get a good connection and land it in the bottom corner' and luckily I did.
"I am just glad to be part of Forest's fight for survival.
"We had belief, we have a great team spirit and to come back from 2-1 down so late on is great.
"Bristol City are a good side, especially on the counter-attack and looked dangerous.
"We are confident we can get out of this."
And he said those who expect Forest to get nothing at in-form Sheffield United today are wrong.
"We expect to get something," said Blackstock. "We expect to get something otherwise there is no point in us going.
"We believe we can get something from Sheffield and, if we did not, we might as well stay at home and have a training session.
"I think we can go there and take all three points. The players, manager and coaching staff believe that. If we win that it will go a long way towards our survival
