The Ryman Football League Flanagan Wants to See Job Through Former Charlton Athletic favourite Mike Flanagan wants to see out the season at Ryman League Division One North club Maldon & Tiptree.nonleague.pitchero.com/news/flanagan-wants-to-see-job-through-9924/Published 14th January 2012 The club’s caretaker-manager took over in November, following the resignation of joint-bosses Brad King and Glen Knight. Since then the side have enjoyed a much-improved spell of form, culminating with last Saturday’s 1-0 victory at home to Thamesmead Town and Wednesday night`s 2-0 win at Ilford. In their last eleven league matches, Maldon have won five and drawn four, only losing twice to AFC Sudbury. “I’m delighted for the players because their form has drastically improved,” said Flanagan, who has been told the job is “his to lose” by impressed chairman Ed Garty. “I’m enjoying it and want to continue. “In the first couple of weeks I didn’t know if I wanted all the aggravation and hassle, but since then I’ve been delighted with the way things have gone. “And just as pleasing as the results has been the quality of our football. I’d certainly like to finish what I’ve started and see this season out. Then perhaps we could reassess things in the summer.” nonleague.pitchero.com/news/flanagan-wants-to-see-job-through-9924/

And about Maidon and Tiptree www.maldonandtiptreefc.co.uk/Memories... Turned 59 in November...' Signed by Terry Venables from Crystal Palace, in December 1980 - one of a myriad of Crystal Palace players signed by Venables after he left Palace for QPR. Palace paid 650,000 pounds for him in 1978. 18 months later, QPR paid 150,000 pounds for him. Returned to Charlton in January 1984. Until the Summer of 2007, Flanagan was the Assistant Manager at Margate. Wikipedia Stats en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Flanagan_(footballer)

I look back at El Tel's early 1980's team with great fondness - and I still reckon that they deserve to be ranked along with the late 60's and mid 70's teams as the greatest ever QPR squads. And MF was an integral part of that great team - even though he never seemed to attract the same amount headlines as some of the other players from that squad.

And a lot more recent a player (and at QPR, more peripheral)...Joe Oastler Torquay Official Site TOP JOE Sun 15 Jan 2012 ON a day of positive United performances, right-back Joe Oastler was the manager's pick for man of the match. The Gulls defended superbly as a unit in the 2-1 victory at Macclesfield and Joe was also a constant threat going forward. He was ably assisted by left-back Kevin Nicholson and centre-backs Chris Robertson, who made a miraculous clearance, and Mark Ellis, scorer of the second goal. "Chris Robertson made a great clearance and we looked solid defensively again," said boss Martin Ling. "The two centre-halves were only beaten by a good goal and sometimes you have to take your hat off to a good cross and a good header. "Mark Ellis and Robbo were particularly strong today, and the full-backs also did very well. Joe Oastler was very good going forward and he maybe just edged man of the match. "We only have to get Joe and Damon Lathrope off the mark now, and then we've got everyone scoring." www.torquayunited.com/page/News/0,,10445~2577627,00.html

Always wondered about him...He broke his leg before he got a chance at QPR... Plymouth Argyle
WOTTON'S PRAISE FOR WALTSPosted on: Sat 14 Jan 2012 PAUL Wotton was unable to get on the scoresheet on his return to the Argyle line up, but he was delighted to see his midfield partner grab two goals and a share of the post-match headlines.Fittingly, though, the day's hero was a penalty-scoring skipper with an almost homophonic surname. Simon Walton took his goal tally for the season to nine with a fine left-footed strike in the opening minutes of the second half and a last-gasp spot-kick to seal a 2-1 win for the Pilgrims.Shortly after the final whistle, a buoyant Wottsy praised Walts and offered his verdict on the game, summarising a win that will doubtless be one of the personal highlights of his career. He said: "The first half was scrappy, nip and tuck - which was fine by us. "Once we went 1-0 up, I thought 'what a great start to the second half'. What a great strike from Walts, and we really turned the screw. "If we'd have got the second then it might have been a very comfortable afternoon. But we conceded a goal, and had a couple of minutes where we thought 'how is this going to pan out?' "Our response was brilliant. We kicked on again, got the penalty, and what a clinical penalty. He's got some record. He never looked like he was going to miss. He couldn't get the ball quick enough, which I love to see from a penalty taker. He did really well today." Wottsy had his own chances to score. Argyle earned two free-kicks, one in each half, which were very much in shooting territory, and which Wottsy fired wide. A more accurate effort in the second half was conjured wide by visiting goalkeeper Ross Atkins. But, to teeter on the brink of cliché with reckless abandon, the result was the most important thing on the day, and Wottsy is certain that there is enough quality and unity in the dressing room and the terraces to ensure ultimate safety at the end of the season. "The free-kick in the first half was close," said Paul, "The one in the second half was useless. The shot in the second half he was wrong footed and made a decent save. "That's not a bottom of the table side. I've trained with them yesterday and played with them today. There is a great spirit in the changing room. All the staff and players are all together. "We've got a couple of boys who are a real threat. Hemmings, without a doubt. Just give him the ball. Youngy in the second half was brilliant. They are brave because they get on the ball. "The punters got right behind us. As they do. If you are up for tackles and headers, giving everything you've got, they'll forgive you anything, the fans of Plymouth Argyle." And David Kerslake (who I thought was destined for great things as a player with QPR), is Assistant Manager of Cardiff. (I guess maybe I knew that and blotted it out) Speaking today www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10335~2577874,00.html
