How many have supported QPR for 25 years or more?
« Thread Started on Nov 28, 2008, 6:55pm »

How many on here have actively supported QPR for 25 years or more?

I started supporting QPR in about 1974-75 and had my first season ticket in 1977

I started in 1967 (but unfortunately the season, AFTER the League Cup Final really supported - beyond wanting QPR to beat WBA)...

Which means you saw Mike Keen and Clive Clark and Ron Springett (I think) in their youth? Wow. And the Morgan twins make their debuts and Marsh at his beginning. Nice

CPR - you took the words out of my mouth for the lot of you!

Been a supporter since 1977, but only been going since 1980.

Since 1958 visited 54 league grounds as a follower. I saw Rodneys first game at Peterborough where his through ball for John Collins got us a point. I was at Wembley in 1967, and my dad said I must have been the only one in the ground who thought we would win at half time. I managed to be on the front page of the South Wales Echo when we had a cup tie against Barry Town which we drew with a last minute goal on a sea of mud. The replay back at the bush was won 7-0. I along with approx 4,700 fans saw Rangers go 5-0 up at half time against Tranmere Rovers eventually winning 9-2. I saw Arthur Longbottom (afterwards changed his name to Langley) score from near the half way line. I was at Villa when we had to win the last game of the season to go up and we did and latterly at Sheff Wed for the same thing. The stadium that you see now resembles nothing like it did when I first started to watch the R,s. Ellerslie was the only stand with seats and from memory it was made mostly out of wood,The Loft was covered with corrugated metal sheets of iron and South Africa Road had two or three concrete stairways and the rest was a muddy bank of earth. I was eleven when I became a till I die hoop. I was ridiculed at School because of my devotion and yes I cried when we lost which was most Saturdays. I was introduced to QPR by my father who was introduced by his father who with my grandmother and Uncle John used to follow the team from the earliest days. I was taken to the bush by dad when I was 5 or 6 but I don't count that as I was not inerested in football, only running up and down the banks of earth with other young lads who used to be there. Another thing I remember was moving around to the other end of the ground at half time to behind the goal the R's Kicked into, there being no barriers in those days. Percy Daltons peanuts were sold from the pitch side before the game and at half time, you didnt have to move from where you were standing even if you were at the back you threw the money down and the peanuts were passed to someone in the front then to the person behind and eventually finished up in your hands. Happy days lot of memories and would I go back and change to the glory hunters like Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea no bloody chance I would do it all again most willingly, Its been a roller coaster, highs and lots of lows but I love my club and wouldn't change for anything. I was also lucky to see the 1966 world cup final at Wembley and more people watched QPR v West Brom than England v Germany says it all.

I have supported QPR since 1970. Although, I have yet to leave the shores of OZ, my ancestors, arrived in the early 1800s on a FREE voyage. In 1976, I was overseas ticket holder No 1, in 1977, No 10 and in 1978 No 12. :-* :-*

ps Don,t mention the cricket and either will I. ;) ;)

I also remember Ron Springett and the Morgan (twins?). Seem to remember Ian on one wing and Roger on the other.

Watching Ron in goal and Dad taking me to see Lev Yashin at wembley turned me into a fair goalie.

Must admit I went to the shed when Rangers were out of town. Yeh, I'm bad, but in those days we were allies with the Pimlico and Stockwell boys and were looked after if we needed it.

Left England never to return in 1974 so haven't been ACTIVE.

I'm always there in spirit though.

May first game was March 1966. QPR 6 -1 Millwall !! Rodney hat-trick!

I was hooked from that day onwards. I was 14 at the time. Just over 5 years until I get to 50 years supporting the R's.

Rangers 'till I die!
