I have a lot of time for John Gorman. I thought it was great when he joined Magilton as coach. I thought he showed great honor by refusing to step up after Magilton was suspended. Clearly he could have had the QPR Manager job.... MK News
John Gorman's column: thoughts on old club QPR ahead of FA Cup clashMK Dons assistant boss John Gorman writes exclusively for MK NEWS every week. Iam looking forward to Saturday’s game against QPR, the last club I was at before I got the chance to come here. It’s a really good club with a great history and I enjoyed my time there. They have great fans and it’s interesting how many supporters they have that live in and around MK. We’re looking for a bumper crowd and a great atmosphere and I’m excited about competing against my old team. There’s quite a few players still there from my time, such as goalkeeper Radek Cerny, Matthew Connolly, Fitz Hall, Adel Taarabt and Alejandro Faurlin, who is an outstanding player who I hope plays against us. I look forward to seeing some of them again and it will be good to see the boys playing against these top players. It’s great for a club like us to test ourselves against a club of that ability, and we look forward to competing tactically against Neil Warnock. I’ve got a lot of friends coming who areQPRfans, which gives it an added edge. I had a good time at QPR working with manager Jim Magilton. We played a similar type of football to what Dons try to play now and the QPR fans were enjoying it, we were doing well. It was unfortunate that Jim lost his job but Iwas actually asked to stay on, they didn’t want me to leave. In the end it was my choice because I wanted to stand up for Jim. We were virtually in the play-off positions but there were a couple of bad results – I think we lost to Watford – and he lost his job just before Christmas, Flavio Briatore was in charge at the time. It was difficult to leave, a very hard decision to make as Ilost a good job. I loved the place and it was a wrench as I really enjoyed going there every day for training, the crowd was great to us and I still go back there now. I wasn’t there long enough. There was a possibility it could have been the end of football for me because I wasn’t the youngest, but Karl and the chairman here came for me and got me back in. www.mk-news.co.uk/Sport/MK-Dons/John-Gormans-column-thoughts-on-old-club-QPR-ahead-of-FA-Cup-clash-04012012.htm

MK NEWS Dons up for the cup as Premier League QPR prepare for MK visit KarlRobinson is relishing Saturday’s massive third round FACup clash with Premier League Queens Park Rangers. Dons will host Neil Warnock’s side in front of a bumper stadiummk crowd and despite the two division gap there is only one thought on Robinson’s mind – sending the Hoops packing and making the next round. “It’s just a great occasion,” he said. “It’s the best cup in the world as it still has that aura. “We’re going to make sure we give our all to get through to the fourth round.” The tie can be viewed as a good marker for Dons who are impressing in League One and are keen to test themselves against teams from higher divisions. It might be seen as a good time to play Neil Warnock’s side as they are without a win in eight – a run which has seen them slide to 17th in the Premier League table. Warnock has suggested that he will not rest players for the game but Robinson isn’t concerned what side turns up as he expects a tough tie regardless. He said:“I’m not bothered, I don’t get involved with other teams. “They’ve got players in abundance and are littered with star performers. “My players will welcome them with a ruthlessness and a passion to match theirs.” Promotion to the Championship is top of the Dons’ list of priorities this season but a cup run is still very much on the agenda. The feeling is that it could boost the club’s dealings in the transfer market now the window is back open, and they can take confidence ahead of QPR from the 4-0 Carling Cup win against fellow Premier League side Norwich in August. “We feel that a good cup run can only advance what we are trying to do at the club and attract players here,” Robinson said. “If we win this game it will be a lot easier to bring a player here knowing you could have a Man Utd coming up at the end of January. “It’s a draw for us to sign new players and it puts us on the world stage.” Tickets are still available for the tie and the club hope to have as many in as possible, with more than 14,000 sold so far. Striker Charlie MacDonald will miss the game with a knee problem, but at the time of writing he is the only injury concern. www.mk-news.co.uk/Sport/MK-Dons/Dons-up-for-the-cup-as-Premier-League-QPR-prepare-for-MK-visit-04012012.htm

Flashback
Friday, June 12, 2009 John Gorman Talks About Joining QPR - EADT/Elvin King - Gorman joins Jim at Rangers - JOHN Gorman will be confirmed Queens Park Rangers' assistant manager within the next few days. - And he is eagerly awaiting the Londoners' Championships games against Ipswich Town next season. - The 59-year-old former England coach was sacked by the Blues at the same time as previous manager Jim Magilton in April. - Now he is poised to link up again with Magilton and take up the role he occupied at Portman Road from last December. - “I have not signed a contract yet, but have a meeting at the club on Monday,” said Gorman, who was shown around Loftus Road yesterday. “Jim Magilton deserves to be back in management, and I am delighted to be continuing My Tuchusociation with him. - “We are looking ahead with confidence to the 2009/10 campaign and will be making a big note of the matches against Ipswich when the fixture list is published next week It was disappointing the way things ended for me - and Jim - at Ipswich, and I was back in the town on Wednesday picking up my belongings from the house where I was living.” - And looking ahead to his new challenge, Gorham added: “Things are ticking at Rangers already. - “It is a famous club that I have always rated and Loftus Road is a wonderful stadium for football. - “Whether we can finish above Ipswich is something we shall have to wait and see, but I wish Ipswich well. - “They are a lovely club with lovely fans, but now it is time for me to move on.” - Gorman would not be drawn on whether QPR would be coming in for any current Ipswich players, but those who new manager Roy Keane is happy to release will no doubt come under the Magilton/Gorman spotlight. - “After my world came crashing down, it is nice to be back,” said Gorman, an ex-Celtic player. - “But I can't get my head round being at a club called Rangers. It will always be QPR for me!” EADT

Jim Magilton and John Gorman leave Queens Park Rangers Magilton had been suspended by the west London club Manager Jim Magilton and his assistant John Gorman have left Queens Park Rangers by mutual consent. Magilton was suspended after an incident on 7 December at Vicarage Road, where QPR lost 3-1 to Watford. After the match, Magilton admitted having a "difference of opinion" with midfielder Akos Buzsaky but he has categorically denied any wrong-doing. Magilton, 40, was the seventh manager to work under chairman Flavio Briatore, who took over the club in August 2006. A club statement read: "Recent events have been widely reported and whilst Jim Magilton completely denies the allegations, with the full support of John Gorman, it has been agreed it is in the best interests of the club and Jim Magilton if the parties move on in their separate ways. 606: DEBATE What do you think of Magilton and Gorman leaving? "The club would like to wish both Jim Magilton and John Gorman good luck in the future and thank them for their hard work." Youth coaches Steve Gallen and Marc Bircham were placed in temporary charge of the team last week, and they almost oversaw a dramatic win over West Brom on Monday. QPR are currently 12th in the Championship and have not won in five league games. Their last win at home was against Reading on 20 October. Former Northern Ireland midfielder Magilton was appointed in June after the club parted company with Paulo Sousa, who was in charge for just 26 games. Previous managers under Briatore's chairmanship have included John Gregory, Mick Harford, Luigi De Canio, Iain Dowie, Gareth Ainsworth and Sousa.

MK Dons Official Site FA CUP PREVIEW: QPR Posted on: Thu 05 Jan 2012 MK Dons are out to break records when they take on Queens Park Rangers in the FA Cup with Budweiser Third Round on Saturday as they look to book themselves into the Fourth Round for the first time. Premier League outfit QPR will provide one of the biggest tests of the season to Karl Robinson's team as the likes of Anton Ferdinand, Luke Young, Adel Taarabat, DJ Campbell, Alejandro Faurlin and Heidar Helguson to name but a few are packed into their side. Hoops boss Neil Warnock has vowed to play his strongest side as his team play their first game of the competition due to Premier League clubs joining in the Third Round. One thing for certain though is QPR will be without their captain Joey Barton who failed in his appeal to the FA to rescind his controversial red card against Norwich earlier this week. The Dons will be without their own key player on the day too as joint top goal scorer Charlie MacDonald misses out with a knee injury after playing through the pain barrier on Monday to help the Dons to victory over Colchester United. "We have a few things up our sleeves that we are looking at and we're monitoring and he is one of them, but we have other option out there but we have to make sure we do the right thing which will benefit the Club." While the Dons may lose one player they gain Adam Smith who is back after serving a one-match suspension. Smith's availability leaves Robinson and John Gorman with tough decisions on whether or not to tinker with a winning side. The Dons have never managed to get passed the Third Round stage before but with a bumper crowd behind them - an attendance in excess of 17,000 is expected at stadiummk - they could once again break records and having already beaten top flight Norwich in the Carling Cup they will have the belief that it is an achievable task ahead of them. Robinson said: "Whoever plays I know it will be a fantastic day, it will be a strong QPR team out there. History could be made in the attendance and it could be made in the result, there has been so many records broken by this group of players and this would be a really good one and one we would be really proud of." With Warnock in the opposite dugout this weekend Robinson will relish the chance to pit his wits against a Premier League manager and will also take the opportunity to pick his brains. He added: "If you wear your heart on your sleeve and you say what you believe then there are going to be times when you say things people don't agree with. I respect Neil Warnock for the fact that he says what he thinks, I would rather a man says what he thinks. "As a manager you have to respect what he has done with a number of promotions under his belt, I hope one day I can emulate his success because it's been unbelievable and that's why he's managing in the Premier League. "I want to have a chat with him after the game because if I can draw anything from his experience it could help us in the run in at the end of the season so I will be asking him a few questions. "Neil respects us and sees this as a chance for his team to have a run in the competition. I will put out the best team possible to get a result but with an eye on Carlisle next week, and I'm sure Neil Warnock will have an eye on his next game as well." www.mkdons.com/page/MatchPreview/0,,10420~2567631,00.html
