(Maybe one or two things not focused on!) The Sun By PAUL JIGGINS Yes Flavio Did Say Who To PickGIANNI PALADINI has lifted the lid on eight explosive and successful years in the QPR boardroom — admitting: There was never a dull moment. The former chairman ended his association with the west London club on Wednesday having helped mastermind their rise from League One to the Premier League. But two promotions, 12 different managers and two multi-million pound takeovers tell only part of the story of Paladini's tenure — which included more drama and bust-ups than the Footballers' Wives box-set. In his first interview since leaving Rangers, Paladini revealed: # He almost quit after thugs held him at gunpoint in the boardroom. # He got on with all his managers except Paulo Sousa who was as "an arrogant know-it-all." # And Flavio Briatore did try to "interfere" with team selection after he bought the club with Bernie Ecclestone. INTERFERENCE ... Flavio Briatore Paladini, 59, said: "Working at QPR has been a rollercoaster ride but you should only be judged on your end product, and there is no doubt I have left QPR in a better position than when I arrived." But his time almost ended before their second home game of 2005-06 campaign when it was reported armed thugs burst into the boardroom before kick-off and demanded he sign over his stake in the club. He recalled: "It was the most terrifying experience of my life. It shook me up so bad I considered walking away. But I couldn't, I loved the club too much." The case went to court where seven men were cleared of charges relating to the incident. Paladini later became chairman and persuaded F1 supremos Briatore and Ecclestone to buy the club in 2007. And when the seriously-minted Mittal family invested, Rangers became one of the world's richest clubs. Quantcast In the new owners' quest for instant success they went through five managers in their first 12 months. Paladini said: "Flavio wanted success at all costs and he was only doing what he thought was right. "But sometimes he could interfere with the manager and team too much. In fairness when Neil Warnock took over Flavio took a step back." Paladini has worked with 12 managers at Loftus Road and he admitted: "I got on well with all the managers, except Sousa. "Nobody could tell him anything and he wouldn't listen to anybody, not even people who were trying to help him— he knew it all. He was so arrogant." www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3942526/Gianni-Paladini-reveals-all-about-his-explosive-years-at-QPR.html

For a split second I thought he was talking about Briatore.

"but you should only be judged on your end product"
That's been the party line issued consistently by his sycophants. About as logical as me wanting to get out of a traffic jam and deciding to get out my car and run through all the cars, punching pedestrians and knocking off people's wing mirrors as I went. Then saying, well, I made it out of the traffic jam - that was the goal, so let's just leave it at that.

He's a lucky man & we are so pleased he managed to survive !
To be honest he's going to get worse as he gets older with the finer points of ' being held at gunpoint while Directing a soccer (thatsme becoming American sounding) club '. The facts will be distorted & details are sure to get pulled completely out of context as the years pass by... RIP GP (from QPR)

He's been trying to sell his story for a long time. During the Faurlin saga he was asking for £100k but nobody would touch him with a bargepole. Guess he got a few quid to feed his gambling habit for another day.

A good analogy indeed only it falied to include mentioning dragging everyone through the gutter with him. Being the Sun they are probably setting him up anyway. I mean look at that drivel, it's not even accurate! Bar the comment that all the gun incident protaganists were cleared!!!

Usual Sun story, mixture of truths and non-truths, exaggeration and twisting of the truth. Mind you that's what GP is all about so I suppose they work together well!!

When it comes to honesty in reporting, the test is not whether one can read about oneself in The Sun, it's whether one can look at oneself in the Mirror...

It truly was a great quote, Canada
As for Gianni: You'd think he might show a little loyalty to Flavio, given that they were on the same team!

Disnt get on well with Sousa because Sousa wanted to sign his own choices and was extremely well popular with the players. A true gentleman was how he got described.
PS They missed the bit about lying in court 50 odd times to a QC.

Spiv, Crook, Liar, Former Two Bit Agent, Saviour of the Club, Misunderstood, Passionate, Survivor. I guess there are plenty of ways to describe our former esteemed chairman and I suppose it depends who you speak to.
I guess you have to call him a survivor because he certainly was that but in my view this man did more harm to QPR than any other single individual and I for one did not mourn his departure - unless it was mourning the fact that it never happened much sooner.
So what have been his biggest "achievements" at QPR? Well how about these;
1. Turning, what was likely, a clash of angry words in the boardroom into something more sinister, aka the Gunfight at Loftus Road. We saw people arrested, we saw the Then Two Bit Agent use that incident to stage his coup and we saw it all thrown out of court a few months later- with the judge making more than a few unflattering comments about Paladini's character.
2. Convincing many fans that he, along with some help from Briatore & Pet Monkety later on of course, saved the club from extinction. He also convinced many fans that BP & co just did not have the funds to continue as is - while those same fans never questioned how Paladini was going to do it considering he had even less funds on him.
3. The Ollie Gardengate saga. You have on your hands a coach who has performed a minor miracle in turning the clubs fortunes in such a short time (as it was staring bankruptcy in the face, along with boardroom turmoil) and is reasonably popular with the fans, so what do you do? Get rid of him of course by starting an anti Ollie campaign with the help of the vocal anti-IH minority and then using an enquiry by Leicester as a weapon against him. On top of that you opurt a gag on this coach whilst ensuring that the same does not apply to you - giving you a chance to sprout what ever you wanted to against this person whilst denying him the opportunity to respond. Many fans from other clubs told me straight that it was the dumbest of dumb moves by GP. 11 coaches and caretaker coaches later in less than 4 years proved them right.
4. Convincing us & the club that the likes of Nygaard and all those has been Italian and South American mid-fielders who sounded like vital ingredients in a Latin Dish were important for our progress and that many of them should be signed up for long term deals. The fact that somebody was earning some good agency fees was just by the way - and had nothing to do with making those decisions of course.
5. Think about it - you have a coach who has just beaten their local rivals at the time (in this case Crystal Palace) and he wants to celebrate it by having a couple of drinks at a local bar with a complete stranger who just happens to be a fan? But wait there is more - this same coach will go on to spill his guts to this fan about all the comings and goings at his club. Far fetched? Well apparantly this scenario was supposed to have happened in April 2009, courtesy of an exclusive on a QPR website (which coincidently just happened to be the praise singer for the one and only Gianni) and led to the sacking of Paloa Sousa. Incredibly there are many fans who actually believed that the above scenario actually happened.
6. Acting like a complete prat and buffoon in more than few director's boxes at away (not to mention home) games - thus heaping more shame and disdain on our football club.
7. The Faurlin Saga (or disaster). If anything proved how inept our Former Two Bit Agent was when it came to admin work then this saga was it. He of course tried to lie his way out of it but the FA would have none of it. What should have been our greatest moment in 15 years almost became a disaster. As it is it cost us nearly 900k quid in fines and turned what should have been a joyous occassion into an anti-climax. And some fans still believed in him.
8. John Gregory & Ian Holloway more than hinted that it happened, while ian Dowie was sacked for saying it - and probably a couple of other coaches also lost their jobs for the same reason. No matter how hard he tried to deny it - there was always a lot of talk that Paladini & then Briatore had a big say on who was bought and who was selected to pay. The more they denied it the louder the calls became.
9. But above all you have to give hioma credit for being a survivor - he lied, he stufffed up, he couldn't get along with coaches, he was inept and saw over 50 players in less than 4 years go through this club and yet he managed to hang on - and in fact thrive - at QPR. What would have sunk many was merely brushed off by our Former Esteemed Chairman, who always seemed to live to fight another day (until now that is). All in all just surviving has to be his biggest achievement - pity it wasn't at Port Vale, his initial port of call.

Cant get away from the fact that when he joined we were Old 3rd div (ok we were going up, just!). He left us in the Premier league. The way the club was being run was a joke, but in a way it worked!!!!

dave mac is saying on twitter that it was all gp's doing getting warnock in as well, when everyone thought it was amits. would be nice if people could depise, detest and venomously hate him a little bit less in my honest opinion. it does look like this club has never ever been in a better position, thats got to be down to someone, and as much as it upsets people, i think most know who that person was. wether by luck or for self gain, the facts and our position in the premeiership, manager, squad and owner show the true facts like a beacon of glorious light.

I didn't see that specific Dave McIntyre quote. But I'm perfectly prepared to accept Dave McIntyre perspective re the Gianni years as he posted over the past few days. And in fact the past few months or years. His latest tweets twitter.com/#!/davidmcintyre76 Is it good not to hate? Absolutely. And for myself, I don't hate Paladini. And we can come to different conclusions over how Paladini QPR performance. The Paladini aplogists of course don't really factor in in any genuine appraisal.
