Why Samba should dance to the Spurs beat, not QPR's By Darren Lewis
One of the sad truths about life is that money talks.
The book Jose Mourinho - Made in Portugal is written by Luis Lourenco and has a nice story in it about Rivaldo, fresh from winning the World Cup in 2002.
The story goes that he went to his bosses at Barcelona for pay rise.
They told the Brazilian: "But you have medals and awards, Rivaldo."
The superstar replied, however: "When I went to buy a house, my bank manager did not ask me to produce my medals".
And I suppose that's fair enough. If you have the chance to make more money in your job, you surely have to take it. Whatever job you do.
So I can understand why the likes of Chris Samba have a big decision to make. But I'd still be staggered if he opted not to go to Spurs.
QPR, backed by the Air Asia tycoon Tony Fernandes, can match and beat any offer Tottenham may be set to put in front of the Blackburn defender.
A move to Spurs, however, would see Samba join a title-chasing squad who should - at the very least - have Champions League football for the second time in three years next season.
Not only that, if Samba is playing at a higher level and doing well, his value will go up and he will get paid better wages!
A move to Rangers would see Samba link up with Mark Hughes, the man who made him a Premier League star after signing him from the German club Hertha Berlin for Rovers.
A move to White Hart Lane would see Samba improve for playing with better players. It would see him operating at the top level of Premier League football. He would test himself, push himself, step outside of his comfort zone.
Hughes's star is most certainly rising. But Redknapp is already achieving and Samba will be one of the final pieces in a well-constructed jigsaw put together by the Spurs boss should he go there.
In short, surely Samba should be placing ambition before money as he decides on his next club.
Yes, he may have the likes of Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul ahead of him at Tottenham while at Rangers he would go straight into the team. Presumably alongside Alex who is soon to quit Chelsea.
But Samba should surely back himself to break into the Tottenham side. He should surely believe in himself enough to know that he has what it takes to give his rivals a real run for their money.
Redknapp said on Tuesday that he could see no reason why Spurs, despite the arrival of Hughes at Loftus Road, should lose out to Rangers in the race for Samba.
And, with respect to the Hoops, the former Portsmouth boss made perfect sense.
Tottenham are the bigger club with the better history and tradition and the bigger fan base.
Their years of under-achievement appear to over and they are now pulling themselves up a chair at the table with the big boys.
Rangers will be strong. No doubt about that. Hughes will improve them, he will raise the profile of the club and he will bring in better players.
But right now Spurs are the better option. If Samba passes up this opportunity he could regret it.

EXCLUSIVE: Spurs launch bid for Samba to stop Rovers defender joining QPR By SAMI MOKBEL Last updated at 10:28 PM on 11th January 2012 Comments (0) Share Tottenham have made a £7.5million offer for Blackburn defender Chris Samba. Harry Redknapp has put a central defender at the top of his January shopping list and has pinpointed Samba as his No 1 target. Spurs officials have contacted Rovers, making their opening offer to set up a deal for their skipper, who is keen to leave the struggling Barclays Premier League club. In demand: Christopher Samba (left) looks set to leave Blackburn Sportsmail revealed on Tuesday that Redknapp would step up his move for Samba this week, fearing new Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes would steal a march on him for the signature of the 27-year-old Congo international. QPR tabled a £7m offer for Samba on Tuesday and the London clubs are now involved in a straight fight to land the highly-regarded central defender. Done deal: Tottenham missed out on Bolton's Gary Cahill (right) Redknapp is so keen to land a new centre half that he even contemplated hijacking Chelsea’s move for Gary Cahill this week. But he was told the Bolton defender’s deal was too far advanced. Cahill has agreed personal terms understood to be in the region of £80,000 a week with the Stamford Bridge club and is expected to join them before Saturday’s clash with Sunderland, dependant on a medical. Alex swoop will kick off QPR signing spree Published 22:30 11/01/12 By John Cross
. Mark Hughes will begin his QPR revolution by signing outcast Chelsea centre-back Alex in a cut-price £3million deal.
Hughes is also trying to snap up defenders Nedum Onuoha and Wayne Bridge from his former club Manchester City, while Rangers are still in the market for Blackburn centre-back Chris Samba.
The moves are a sign of Hughes' determination to create a squad strong enough to ensure Rangers beat the drop by going on a January spending spree financed by wealthy owner Tony Fernandes.
"There is interest in top-quality players and (Alex) is very much in that level," said former Blackburn boss Hughes, who also admitted his admiration for Samba. "He is a very good player.
"We would hope to bring that quality of player to the club if it was possible. If there are quality players that are attainable we will try to do that."
QPR face competition from Spurs for Samba, which is why they are also in for Onuoha - another player who worked under Hughes in the past - but are confident of landing Alex in time for him to make his debut at Newcastle on Sunday.
Hughes admitted another priority might be to get himself on Twitter, so he can start following Fernandes and Rangers captain Joey Barton, who are both prolific tweeters.
The Welshman, who confirmed he will not stop Barton tweeting and will retain him as skipper, said: "I have no issue with tweeting, or the captaincy. He (Barton) is a very accomplished player and I look forward to working very closely with him.
"I will possibly have a discussion with Tony about Twitter but I'm not in a position to say anything.
"I think it's great he engages with the fans and he has passion for the fans and the businesses he has around the world."

To me the whole Samba thing will come down to one thing, who will he pick??
Does he want to go to title pushing Spurs but be in danger of getting pushed to the side like several other Rednapp signings or does he want to re-unite with the man who brought him to the Premier League and become our main man in defence.

Yeah agree Rory , shame we didnt havethose extra 3-4 points up the table !
Just for ref as was a target briefly .
Swansea are desperate to nick Maynard Published 22:30 11/01/12 By Football Spy . Brendan Rodgers is so desperate to bring Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard to Swansea, he has upped his bid by offering Leroy Lita AND Stephen Dobbie in part exchange.
After having an initial offer of forward Dobbie plus £1million rejected, Rodgers is willing to throw in former Ashton Gate ace Lita instead of the cash.
Lita, 27, who only joined the Welsh side from Middlesbrough in the summer, began his career with the Robins and scored 31 goals in 85 appearances.
City have to sell Maynard, who has struck eight goals in 25 games this season, in the current window because he is out of contract in the summer and has refused to sign a new deal.
Swansea face competition from Wolves and Fulham for his services, but Rodgers hopes his two-for-one deal will give them the edge

Meanwhile it looks like Venkys havnt got two bob to rub together ,cant afford Johnson have to sell Hoillett or Samba to raise the cash , brfc must be pulling his hair out!
Blackburn must sell to buy Johnson Published 22:30 11/01/12 By Alan Nixon
. Blackburn boss Steve Kean's bid for Fulham striker Andy Johnson is on hold - until he sells a player to raise funds.
Kean wants the experienced hitman on board for the relegation run-in, and his hopes lifted when rivals QPR sacked manager Neil Warnock, who also wanted Johnson.
However, the Scot has been told he cannot complete a £2million raid for Johnson before Rovers move on one of their players to balance the books.
Kean is working with limited funds and thinks a new striker is the first capture he needs to make in the painfully slow process.
Rovers do not want to sell in-demand skipper Chris Samba, preferring to trade contract-rebel attacker Junior Hoilett, but so far only Bolton have shown a positive interest in him during the current transfer window.
Blackburn insiders have revealed that if Hoilett is sold, the incoming cash will go on Johnson.
In the meantime, the only other players Kean can chase are loanees.
The Scot is waiting on an answer from Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero, who could come to Ewood Park on a 'shop window' loan.

Now I see a report of a Hughes £7 mill offer and Spurs have trumped that to £7.5, however who else read that Hughes called Samba personally & offered £8 million? Makes me wonder how high Spurs will go tbh. Ok so we're 2nd favourites but what else will Hughes do to land his man?

Seems that PSG are interested in Samba and that he's not against joining them: www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/9467546.Samba_looking_for_move_away_from_Blackburn_Rovers/BLACKBURN Rovers skipper Chris Samba believes it is time for a change after admitting he wants to leave Ewood Park. The 27-year-old defender is in demand this month, with QPR, Paris St Germain and Spurs all interested in him and he is ready to move on. He told L'Equipe: "Lately, mentally, it has been difficult. I tried to maintain my level of performance, but I sense that it is time for a change. The club doesn’t evolve at all. I’m resigned. "I’ve always put the interests of the club before my own. I’ve invested a lot, always tried to lead by example, but things have not gone as I was told. I hope people will understand me.’ "In any case, it’s flattering. The club has reached another level, it’s not the PSG of a few years ago. "There are Leonardo, Ancelotti ... I’m sure they will bring in great players. We shall see if the interest is confirmed or not, but it would be good for me to return home. "The most important thing is to find an ambitious club. I would love to experience something different."

Back to Zamora www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport-24027304-mark-hughes-to-solve-a-striking-problem-with-bobby-zamora-bid.doMark Hughes to solve a striking problem with Bobby Zamora bid Simon Johnson New Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes is stepping up his bid to sign Fulham striker Bobby Zamora. Hughes wants to rebuild his attack around the 30-year-old, who he worked with at Craven Cottage last season. QPR are one point above the relegation zone and have scored just 19 times in 20 Premier League games this season, the second-fewest total in the top-flight. The club's two summer signings, DJ Campbell and Jay Bothroyd, have contributed just three League goals between them. Hughes said: "It is fair to say that certain areas need to be addressed. At Premier League level, the ability to take chances and score goals is crucial." Zamora has scored six times this season despite being on the fringes of the Fulham squad and his strained relationship with manager Martin Jol could lead to him leaving. Although the England international is not a prolific striker, Hughes appreciates how he improves team play and sets up chances for others. Zamora is still hopeful of making it into England's squad for Euro 2012 and a regular starting place elsewhere will be appealing. Tottenham had shown an interest in their former player, although they are now primarily looking at younger talent such as Marseille's Loic Remy. QPR will face a fight to convince Fulham to sell Zamora, given the acrimony after Hughes quit the club last summer. Chairman Mohamed Fayed fiercely criticised him in October, saying he was "odd" and a "flop". Hughes's first signing is likely to be Chelsea centre-half Alex, while bids have been made for Manchester City pair Wayne Bridge (on loan) and Nedum Onuoha. Meanwhile, QPR chief executive Philip Beard expects the club to be at a new training ground within a year. It is understood Rangers are close to agreeing a deal to build a new complex at the Warren Farm Sports Centre, near Osterley. The club want a significant upgrade on their current base at Harlington, where Chelsea used to train before moving to Cobham in 2004. While not confirming the venue for the new site, Beard said: "We have identified the land and I will be very disappointed if this time next year the team isn't at a new training ground. "We are working with the right people and I will be very disappointed if it's not confirmed in the next couple of weeks. It will be a good location and it's not a million miles away from where we currently train. "If you've been to Harlington, it is hard to impress players you're trying to bring into the club. Very shortly I will have pictures up of what the new one will look like when it is built." Plans to build a 30,000 stadium are being progressed but they could face competition for land from Chelsea, who are looking to move from Stamford Bridge. Beard added: "If we're going to build a new-style stadium, it has to be a multi-use arena. We are at very early stages. I can't talk about what other clubs want to do or are planning to do, I'm just focused on what QPR are trying to achieve."

Thanks MAC Not so promising if this true about ONUOHA , 4 games doesnt finish until 2 more league and cup game around 26th jan , would mean we wouldnt have him for Wigan but ok from Villa onwards ! Manchester City defender's QPR move on hold NEDUM Onuoha's £3million move to QPR has been put on hold while Vincent Kompany serves a four-game ban. The Manchester City defender was on Neil Warnock's radar before he was sacked this week, but new boss Mark Hughes is still keen on the 25-year-old, who played under the Welshman during his time in charge of the Blues. However, Kompany's controversial red card in Sunday's FA Cup defeat to Manchester United leaves City short of options at the back, and Onuoha is needed at the Etihad Stadium as cover. But the centre-back is expected to finalise a move to Loftus Road when the Belgian completes his suspension at the end of the month. Well if you look at my signature , you will see he is already in a QPR Top ;D QPR eye cut-price deal for Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz QPR are ready to take a £1million gamble on forgotten star Roque Santa Cruz. The Manchester City forward is a Mark Hughes favourite, and is currently on a season-long loan at Real Betis. But its understood the arrangement with the La Liga club can be broken – and City would bite the hands off anyone willing to remove the misfit from their massive wage bill. Hughes originally signed the 30-year-old for Blackburn Rovers in 2007 and then transferred him again two years later for £17.5m on a four-year deal after Sparky took over at City. The new Rs boss also made an unsuccessful bid for the Paraguayan international during his one season at Fulham. Better still from a Rangers point of view, Santa Cruz has hit form for Betis by scoring in the last two games while making 20 appearances for the Spanish club this season.
