QPR welcome Manchester City FC
This Saturday we can finally welcome one of the two Manchester Clubs to Loftus Road .
Because of Manchester Citys fall into the lower leagues like ourselves we have had some recent fixtures with them the latest being 8th March 2000 resulting in a 3 -1 win for the Hoops.
Now they are an incredibly strong Team due to their financial backing and have one of the most expensive teams in the world.
Over the years we have contested some 40 League games from 1950-2000.
In Cup encounters we have had only the one FA Cup meeting which was at Loftus road in 1993 which resulted in a 2-1 loss .
In the four times we played Manchester City in League Cup in every case Manchester City went on to win the match , although we took one to a replay in 1991.

Last Meeting -English Div 1
Our last meeting was in the Old Division One on 8th March 2000..
The match was played at Maine Road and ended in a 3-1 victory for QPR which was a great win considering Man City were in third place and we was currently lying 10th.
Weavers errors cost City dear.
Manchester City missed the chance to return to second place in Division One last night, losing 3-1 at home to QPR. And it was the normally impeccable Nicky Weaver who did most to hand Rangers the points.
The City goalkeeper committed two errors in the space of eight minutes to gift the away side a 2-0 half-time lead, achieved through Chris Kiwomya's strike on 37 minutes and a Gerard Wiekens own goal just before the interval.
On-loan Mikkel Beck notched a 73rd-minute penalty after a foul by Ian Bishop on Kiwomya. The Blues' only reply was Jeff Whitley's consolation goal on 84 minutes, the midfielder firing home a long-range shot.
Royle: Weaver Still the Best
Nicky Weaver has accepted the blame for QPR's opening two goals on Wednesday. But Joe Royle insisted after the game that he wouldn't swap his goalkeeper for any other in England. "That was the kid's first bad game in about two years," said the City boss. "My opinion of him won't change.
He's still the best in the country and one bad game won't change that felt that here hasn't been any yelling and barking at him, no recriminations." Royle felt that the fates had conspired against his side and that on another day the Blues could easily have won. "I can't fault the team's effort and honesty, they were going for it right to the end and our crowd understood that and appreciated their commitment," he insisted.
Francis Backs City for Promotion
QPR may have taken all three points from Manchester City last night at Maine Road. But Rangers manager Gerry Francis is still backing the Blues to clinch a return to the Premiership this season. Francis saw his side pinned back for most of the game as the Blues piled pressure on the visitors.
And the former Tottenham boss recognised that his team benefitted from good fortune to earn their win. "I accept we rode our luck a bit out there and had to defend in depth for long periods. They make so many chances but our defenders were outstanding," he admitted. However, he continued, "I believe City will be in the Premiership next season."

Shaun Wright-Phillips dumped QPR out of the Carling Cup with a splendid double.
The Manchester City midfielder scored either side of half time to put his team into the draw for the next round of the competition.
Wright-Phillips appeared to be offside when he collected Joey Barton's throughball on 22 minutes, but the linesman ruled that Rangers midfielder Kevin McLeod, who was limping along the touchline, had played him onside and the youngster fired Kevin Keegan,s side into the lead.
The red-hot atmosphere inside the ground failed to frighten the City players who almost added a second eight minutes later.
Former QPR star Trevor Sinclair hit a fierce 20-yard drive which keeper Chris Day failed to hold and Robbie Fowler fired the rebound into the sidenetting from six yards.
The home side came closest to scoring minutes before half time, but Martin Rowlands' dipping 20-yard drive flew narrowly over the bar.
After the break the game became scrappy before Wright-Phillips put the game beyond doubt.
He finished a great move on 77 minutes to seal the tie, but substitute Jon Macken really put the game beyond doubt as he scored two minutes later.
The game was marred by an incident in the ground involving Ian Wright.
Wright celebrated his stepson's first goal but was abused by a QPR fan.
QPR manager Ian Holloway was not aware of the incident until afterwards but was also shocked by what happened.
He said: "That's absolutely disgusting. If he was ejected from the ground then rightly so I hope he is banned for life. I actually got Ian his tickets."

With Stockport and Bury having home games called off on (ironically) a beautiful day, I was anticipating a big crowd at Maine Road. We arrived at the ground just before 2 o'clock and decided to have a look round the back of the Kippax.
The familier rustic brick wall still survives on the periphery but is now dwarfed by the technological structure possessing a tubular look similar to the back of the one at Elland Road. We carried on round through the ginnel that joins the Car Park to the Platt Lane (sorry Umbro) stand.
I resisted the temptation to buy King of the Kippax as I recently read that Dave Wallace was a Bon Jovi fan! I noticed another fanzine on sale which didn't seem to be This Charming Fan or Bert Trautman's Helmet (any ideas Paul?).
Nigel Clough didn't join the pre-match kick in. There was speculation about our likely formation with Quinn being injured. In the event Clough started in a quite advanced midfield rôle with Rösler and Phillips in attack.
The first minute produced a clear chance for QPR with Eike saving well (from Sinclair I think). We were penned back for 5 minutes or so and then began to get into our stride. Phillips looked dangerous on the left and got two quality crosses in, but Uwe couldn't direct his headers.
Summerbee, Clough and Kinky started to get a good understanding going. Our best early chance came when Clough sent Summerbee away on the left. He crossed to Kinky who pushed it on to Phillips whose shot across the goal hit the post and rebounded into Sommer's arms.
The goal soon followed and was ample reward for Phillips' industry down the left. His cross resulted in a clash between Sommer and Uwe and the ball dropped kindly for Clough whose shot was deflected into the bottom corner.
I was particularly impressed by our new left-back Michael Frontzeck (for some reason nicknamed 'The Fonz' by those in close proximity). He puts himself about a bit, looks confident on the ball and all in all gave us a much needed new dimension on the left.
QPR had a couple of efforts, one being a long range shot which Eike got his body behind but it somehow slithered out of his grasp for a corner. The other was a header from the unimpressive Hateley which Eike was shepherding round the post until it span back and actually rebounded from said woodwork. The referee was a little overfussy in the first half which slightly spoilt the game as a spectacle.
In the second half we scored after a neat interchange of passes between Kinky (from a corner) and Flitcroft. The ball was knocked in and Kit Symons rose to nod in his first goal for the club (again after a deflection).
QPR's spoiling tactics began to escalate which was a complete surprise to me as I thought they would at least try to play attractive football. Combined with the ref's non-comprehension of the advantage rule, the game descended into a niggly and petulant stop/start affair.
Seven QPR players were booked (1 red : Dichio for second bookable offence) and 3 from City. Unlike some comments I heard afterwards (Paul Power's included) I thought the referee was completely justified with all the bookings although I did still feel that he had a bad game. Unless I'm mistaken I think Flitcroft's yellow means another suspension.
City cruised to victory for the first time in the Premiership this season and I left with much optimism for our impending victories against Coventry, Everton, Newcastle and The Rags.
