it's a statement of intent. Yes; and it clarifies the fact that QPR are handling the communications on this correctly by channelling everything through to the FA. Which, given the sensitivity of the issue and the fact that the investigation is ongoing, is the right thing to do.

I can't see that he could say any more at this time.
Hopefully it was a full & frank statement that he gave to the FA with no omissions. I mean by this that he should not have watered down any comments that he may have made on the pitch.
This statement would then become part of the FA's evidence & for them to use as they see fit & issue into the public domain when & if they feel is the right time to do so.

Now here come the Cops Guardian Police ask Sky for footage of John Terry and Anton Ferdinand incident • Police assessing need for a full investigation • Ferdinand: 'I have very strong feelings on the matter' * Dominic Fifield and Stuart James Hammersmith and Fulham police have requested footage from the Sky television cameras at Loftus Road for last month's derby against Chelsea as they assess whether a full investigation should be launched into allegations that John Terry racially abused Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand late in the match. Ferdinand released a statement on Monday in which he said he had "very strong feelings" on the issue and was confident the Football Association would undertake a "very thorough inquiry". The FA's disciplinary and governance unit has received the QPR player's written testimony and is awaiting a similar response from Terry, who is with Chelsea in Belgium, in the hope a decision can be delivered in the next five or six days. That investigation is being conducted independently of the police's inquiries, which were prompted by a member of the public emailing a complaint to the Metropolitan police in response to Terry's alleged behaviour. The Met has handed the issue to its officers at Hammersmith and Fulham, who are to scrutinise the footage collected by around 20 cameras dotted around the ground before determining whether they should launch an investigation into the allegations. They are expected to interview the players concerned only if their initial assessment prompts a formal inquiry. Terry denies racially abusing Ferdinand in the 85th minute of QPR's 1-0 victory and claims he had shouted the offensive words because he believed he had been accused of making a racist remark and wanted to deny saying anything of the sort. The FA's disciplinary commissioners, who are also going through the footage taken that afternoon, interviewed the England captain at Cobham last Friday and his written statement is to be submitted in the next 48 hours. Ferdinand, who played in his side's 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, offered a brief comment through QPR on Monday. "Today I finalised my statement with the Football Association with regards to the incident that occurred last Sunday at Loftus Road in our Barclays Premier League fixture against Chelsea," he said. "I have very strong feelings on the matter, but in the interests of fairness and not wishing to prejudice what I am sure will be a very thorough inquiry by the FA, this will be my last comment on the subject until the inquiry is concluded. "I would like to thank the club, Tony Fernandes, Amit Bhatia, Neil Warnock, the supporters and my fellow professionals for their unwavering support." Police ask for race-row footage as Anton Ferdinand admits he has 'strong feelings' over John Terry issue The police have formally requested that television footage be handed to them as part of their investigation into John Terry’s alleged racial abuse of Anton Ferdinand.
By Jason Burt and Jonathan LiewThe development occurred as Ferdinand finally issued a statement to say that he had “very strong feelings on the matter”. The Queens Park Rangers defender also confirmed that he had “finalised” his statement to the Football Association, which is also looking into the incident. It is understood that officers from Hammersmith and Fulham have contacted Sky to request the broadcaster release the four hours of footage it has from the 20 cameras at the Loftus Road stadium for the match which was televised live. The video evidence, given that Ferdinand did not hear what Terry said and that other players may also not have heard it, would appear to be crucial to how the case for the police and FA is concluded. Footage was circulated on the internet within hours of the match, but the incident is partly obscured by Ashley Cole, who walks past Terry as he is speaking. The police will now scrutinise the tapes hoping to glean any evidence they can to conclude the matter. Yesterday Ferdinand released a formal statement through QPR. He chose his words carefully but there was clear emphasis in what he decided to say. “Today, I finalised my statement with the Football Association with regards to the incident that occurred last Sunday [Oct 23] at Loftus Road in our Premier League fixture against Chelsea. I have very strong feelings on the matter, but in the interests of fairness and not wishing to prejudice what I am sure will be a very thorough inquiry by the FA, this will be my last comment on the subject until the inquiry is concluded. “I would like to thank the club, Tony Fernandes [chairman], Amit Bhatia [vice-chairman], Neil Warnock, the supporters and my fellow professional for their unwavering support.” While some will regard the statement as relatively bland, there are informative phrases used by Ferdinand which indicate he believes there is a case for Terry to answer. Ferdinand talked of having “strong feelings on the matter” and also the need for a “very thorough inquiry”. Terry is alleged to have mouthed the words “------- black ----” at Ferdinand but has said, strongly, that his aggressive response was in the context of denying making a racist slur. Ferdinand said that he made no initial accusation of racism against Terry and that, to his knowledge, race was not mentioned during the match. The Chelsea captain will submit a written statement to the FA this week and there will be supporting statements from at least two of his team-mates. Last night Chelsea declined to comment on Ferdinand’s statement. QPR striker Jay Bothroyd, meanwhile, said that Ferdinand was dealing with the affair in a “professional” way. “He doesn’t want to talk or gossip about it, he knows that’s how Chinese whispers start,” Bothroyd said. “He’s letting the FA deal with it and he’s concentrating on his game. “There are lots of things that happen in players’ lives that people don’t know about. If you let them get to you, you can end up going on the pitch and playing rubbish. Sometimes that happens. People deal with things in different ways. But Anton has been top class. What happened last week was a bit of a downer. “All my friends and family have been asking me about it, but I don’t like talking about it. People can make their own opinions from what they see on television. It’s an incident between two individuals and now it’s out of their hands because there’s an investigation.” It is hoped that the police might be able to conclude their investigation this week, especially as England manager Fabio Capello is due to announce his next squad this weekend www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/8861422/Police-ask-for-race-row-footage-as-Anton-Ferdinand-admits-he-has-strong-feelings-over-John-Terry-issue.html

Obviously not Terry's fault. But shows the kind of slime there is out there
Press Association
Ferdinand reveals Twitter abuse
Anton Ferdinand has been targeted with racist abuse via his Twitter account.
The Football Association are investigating claims that QPR defender Ferdinand was the subject of a racial slur by Chelsea and England captain John Terry on October 23. Ferdinand released a statement on Monday saying he had "strong feelings" on the matter and backed the FA's inquiry.
Ferdinand has retweeted messages of support sent to him - but also a shocking racist jibe at him that appears to be from a Chelsea fan.
The player has submitted an account of his exchange with Terry during QPR's 1-0 win over Chelsea to the FA, and said in a statement: "I have very strong feelings on the matter, but in the interests of fairness and not wishing to prejudice what I am sure will be a very thorough inquiry by the FA, this will be my last comment on the subject until the inquiry is concluded."
Terry has denied racially abusing Ferdinand, who he admitted had accused him of making a racist remark, but insisted his own response was actually a denial and not racist in any way.
Chelsea refused to allow questions from journalists about the saga in Monday's press conference in Belgium ahead of their Champions League match against Genk.
Terry, who has had a turbulent 18 months off the pitch, could find himself losing the England captaincy for the second time in his career if he is found guilty of racially abusing a fellow footballer on the pitch.

And at Newcastle Sporting Life NEWCASTLE REPORT RACIST TWEET Newcastle have called in police after striker Sammy Ameobi was racially abused on Twitter. The club confirmed the move in a statement released on Tuesday morning. It said: "Newcastle United are aware of a racist remark that was directed towards Sammy Ameobi via Twitter on Sunday evening. "The club and Sammy have reported the matter to the police, who are now dealing with the incident. "The racist comment is wholly unacceptable. Newcastle United will not tolerate racism of any kind and will take the strongest possible action against those responsible." The offending account has since been deleted. Ameobi, the younger brother of Shola, appeared as a late substitute in Monday night's 3-1 Barclays Premier League victory at Stoke which saw the Magpies climb into third place in the table after a 10-game unbeaten start to the campaign. It is not the first time a Newcastle player has found himself in the news because of the social networking site. Former midfielder Joey Barton effectively sealed his departure from St James' Park for QPR after making critical comments about the club during the summer. Newcastle's statement comes at a time when the Football Association are investigating claims that QPR defender Anton Ferdinand was the subject of a racial slur by Chelsea and England captain John Terry on October 23. www.sportinglife.com/football/premiership/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/11/11/01/SOCCER_Newcastle_Ameobi.html

So now the FA won't comment until the police investigation is over. Looks like this will drag on for some time. If Terry is charged with racial abuse looks like game over for him. If not, just means that the police couldn't prove it but the FA do t need the same level of proof. The plot thickens and Terry digs himself deeper and deeper into it!!

GUARDIAN
Police launch investigation into John Terry-Anton Ferdinand incident
• Met opens formal investigation after assessing complaint • Chelsea match marred by chants about Anton FerdinandDominic Fifield John Terry's position as England captain came under greater scrutiny on Tuesday night after Hammersmith and Fulham police launched a formal investigation into allegations that he racially abused Anton Ferdinand during Chelsea's defeat at Queens Park Rangers last month. The Metropolitan police had spent the previous week assessing a complaint that was emailed by a member of the public 24 hours after the game at Loftus Road. Confirmation that police were starting an inquiry that could yet end in criminal proceedings was delivered shortly before Chelsea were held to a surprise 1-1 Champions League draw against Genk on Tuesday night. It was a game in which Terry was an unused substitute and it was marred by chants from sections of the travelling support. Some among the 1,100 visiting fans were heard chorusing: "We know what you are, we know what you are. Anton Ferdinand, we know what you are." The Chelsea manager, André Villas-Boas, was unaware of the chanting at the time and declined to comment when it was related to him but a spokesman for the Premier League club later condemned the fans' reaction. "It was wholly inappropriate and we do not condone it," he said. The Football Association's inquiry into the incident at Loftus Road is ongoing; Terry and Ferdinand have been interviewed and witness statements have been collected by the body's disciplinary and governance unit. There had been hopes that the matter would be resolved this week, before the announcement on Sunday of Fabio Capello's England squad for friendlies against Spain and Sweden. It now seems the issue is likely to be hanging over Terry if he captains the national side for the games at Wembley. There had been no suggestion that the 30-year-old would be omitted from the national squad as a result of being the subject of the FA inquiry, and there is nothing to prevent him from being picked now the police have launched their investigation. Capello's intention to pick an experimental squad, however, will give him a convenient reason for omitting Terry if he is minded to do so. The FA seemed to confirm on Tuesday night that it would not rule on the matter without knowing if the police intended to bring charges against the defender. It said: "The Metropolitan police has contacted the FA to make us further aware of their investigation into the matter. Due to this it would be inappropriate for the FA to comment until the police have completed their own inquiries." The Met are not working to any set timeframe and are likely to seek interviews with those involved. Terry admits that he used offensive words but says he shouted them as a denial, having been under the impression that Ferdinand had accused him of making a racist remark. He welcomed the FA's inquiry as an opportunity to clear his name. Ferdinand, who was targeted with racist abuse on Twitter on Tuesday, broke his public silence on the matter this week saying he had ""very strong feelings" on the issue and was confident the FA would undertake a "very thorough inquiry" into the matter. He has submitted his written testimony to the disciplinary and governance unit. www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/nov/01/police-john-terry-anton-ferdinand

Metropolitan Police launch investigation into allegations John Terry racially abused Anton Ferdinand
The Metropolitan Police last night launched a formal investigation into allegations that Chelsea captain John Terry racially abused Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand. Metropolitan Police launch investigation into race row between John Terry and Anton Ferdinand
By Jason Burt and Luke Edwards
9:00PM GMT 01 Nov 2011 Officers have spent the past few days “assessing” whether to pursue a complaint from a member of the public, who had seen video footage, following the Premier League match at Loftus Road between QPR and Chelsea and on Sunday Oct 23. It has now been decided that, given the potential seriousness of the matter, a full investigation is required involving interviewing all parties and taking witness statements. The police have studied hours of videotape of the match after requesting it be handed over by the broadcaster Sky, who had 20 cameras at the game. Terry has vehemently denied making a racist remark to Ferdinand. In a statement the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were notified of an incident on Sunday Oct 23 involving alleged racial abuse. This is currently being investigated by officers from Hammersmith and Fulham.” The police investigation will take precedence over inquiries being made by the Football Association, which has now received statements from both players. It would be expected that, by moving matters on, the police may delay the FA’s own findings but it is still hoped that the case might be resolved quickly. All parties are also acutely aware that Fabio Capello his England squad on Sunday evening for friendly matches against Spain and Sweden. If the police have not concluded their investigations by then, the FA and Capello will have to decide whether it is in everyone’s best interests if Terry is not selected. However, that course of action might also lead to assumptions about Terry’s guilt. If Terry were charged it is likely to be under the public order act relating to racial or religious hatred. Ferdinand has submitted his account to the FA, and said he had “strong feelings on the matter”, adding in the statement: “In the interests of fairness and not wishing to prejudice what I am sure will be a very thorough inquiry by the FA, this will be my last comment on the subject until the inquiry is concluded.” An FA spokesman said it would be inappropriate for the FA to comment until the police have completed their own enquiries. However, Chelsea fans at their match in Genk chanted: “You know what you are, Anton Ferdinand, you know what you are.”
Newcastle United, meanwhile, have asked police to identify the person who racially abused striker Sammy Ameobi on the social network site, Twitter. It has also emerged that Ferdinand has been verbally attacked on the site. Ameobi retweeted a message to his followers on Monday in which someone had called him a n-----. Ameobi added: “It’s sad some people are still racist these days.” On Monday night, Ferdinand retweeted messages of support for his stance on the Terry allegations, but also reproduced a racist comment directed at him from someone purporting to be a Chelsea supporter. The tweet, repeating what Terry is alleged to have said, read: “RT [retweet] this you ------- black ----, 1 England captain.” The accounts from which the comments were made have now been shut down, but Newcastle are determined to pursue the matter. The club asked police to discover the identity of the account holder so legal proceedings could begin. A statement read: “Newcastle United are aware of a racist remark that was directed towards Sammy Ameobi via Twitter on Sunday evening. The club and Sammy have reported the matter to the police, who are now dealing with the incident. “The racist comment is wholly unacceptable. Newcastle United will not tolerate racism of any kind and will take the strongest possible action against those responsible.” www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/8863413/Metropolitan-Police-launch-investigation-into-allegations-John-Terry-racially-abused-Anton-Ferdinand.html

Innocent till proven guilty. Of course.
But if Terry is in the upcoming England squad, as captain: In the very week that "Kick Out Racism" is being promoted. That would be sending a very wrong message.
