MARK HUGHES hopes Chelsea will drop John Terry on Sunday to avoid more controversy in the Anton Ferdinand race row.
The FA were forced to ditch the traditional pre-match handshake when the sides last met in the FA Cup in January for fear Terry would be snubbed by QPR’s players.
Now they face the same issue when Rangers go to Stamford Bridge at the weekend, with Terry awaiting trial after being charged with racially abusing Ferdinand earlier in the season.
But QPR boss Hughes reckons Chelsea might take Terry out of the firing line as they face key games against Barcelona tomorrow and Newcastle next Wednesday.
When asked whether his players would shake Terry’s hand, Hughes said: “I’ve not looked that far ahead. He’s got a busy week, perhaps he won’t play. Let’s hope so.”
Ferdinand received death threats, and was even sent a bullet in the post following the match in October during which Terry is alleged to have commit- ted the offence.
Chelsea fans also sang: “Anton Ferdinand – you know what you are” in the wake of the controversy.
But Ferdinand’s team- mate Nedum Onuoha claims QPR will handle any abuse that comes their way at Stamford Bridge.
He said: “It will be a hostile atmosphere. But hopefully we can get something out of it.
“We are prepared for it. Everyone here has played against Chelsea before. We’ll be ready for it.”

Take another away win like that one .
A year before i ever went but still all my fav players in that team .
Possibly the only one who wouldnt have been my fav in their was John Beck , didnt see him play many times , what was he like any good ?
Decent Manager Beck at the lower levels , was he Manager for the games we played at Cambridge in League 1 , remember going to the Abbey Stadium around 2000 but its not a memory of a great ground always recall it a bit of a dump and miles to wark to the car park , me being lazy like.
One of the games remember a young Dave Kitson scoring , think we lost 2-1 , know i went home really peeved.

Beck made 33 appearances in the 1974-75 season but his playing opportunities were numbered with the signings of Hollins & Masson.

Our 72/73 Promotion season, the sub was usually John Beck or John Delve...Delve made Beck look like a classy, skillful player!

yes of course Masson i liked , he would have been the one that filled that slot for me in my perfect team at the time , but seeing as was only 11 my judgement may not have been the best

Sunday's match against Queens Park Rangers is a very important game for both sides and Chelsea Football Club hopes for a passionate London derby atmosphere, but without hatred or abuse.
Chelsea FC appreciates that both teams enjoy fantastic support and we are pleased the behaviour of fans attending the FA Cup match at Loftus Road in January recognised that abuse and discrimination has no place in football or society.
Now we wish for the same level of respect to be shown when the two clubs meet again in this weekend's league match.
Both clubs will work together with the police to ensure that anyone using discriminatory or inflammatory language is identified and that the strongest possible action is taken against them.
We would urge fans witnessing any form of abuse to report it at the earliest opportunities to a matchday steward or text anonymously to 07984 937 793.
After the game, you can ring Chelsea to report any incident on 0207 386 3355. Please try and note the stand, row and seat number of the person, as well as their appearance, height and build.

Sturridge will go down like a big girl every time to get a penalty like he did in the FA Cup game. Well it's Chelsea so all their players will be at it let's be honest. The officials will buy it so get ready for another controversial win for the cheating blues.

Former Chelsea and QPR defender Steve Wicks says this weekend’s west London derby will be a test of character for players on both sides.
Chelsea are in the finals of the Champions League and FA Cup but are also desperate to secure a top-four finish, making Sunday’s game hugely important for them.
Rangers, meanwhile, have been buoyed by recent victories against Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham and know they could take a massive step towards top-flight survival if they upset the Blues at Stamford Bridge.
“Chelsea-QPR is a great fixture. I know that from being at both clubs.”
And then there’s the small matter of the furore surrounding John Terry and Anton Ferdinand, which will add fuel to the fire.
“Rangers have got themselves in a position where they can stay up. Now it’s time for some of those guys to step up to the plate and really show what they’re made of,” Wicks told West London Sport.
“The club has invested a lot of money in players and it’s occasions like this when they need to deliver.
“The same applies to Chelsea, because it’s an important game for them too. It’s a great game and one in which men need to stand up and be counted.”
He added: “If you’d said to me at 2-0 down against Liverpool a few weeks back that by this stage Rangers would be in with a great chance of staying up, I’d have taken that and I think most QPR fans would feel the same.
Wicks started his career at Chelsea.
“It looked bad at that stage. Rangers looked dead and buried to be honest. But here we are, with three games to go, and four points should be enough to stay in that division.
“I hope it happens, because Chelsea-QPR is a great fixture – I know from being at both clubs – and down the years has produced some memorable games.
“They were great games to be involved in for the players and now that fixture’s back I really hope Rangers stay up and it continues – and I think most Chelsea fans would feel they’d rather have games against QPR than the likes of Middlesbrough or Wigan.”
Rangers have struggled away from home but Wicks, who had two spells with both clubs, believes they will take heart from any tiredness Chelsea show following their Champions League exploits.
A number of players involved against Barcelona in midweek are likely to feature against the R’s – partly because injuries and suspensions have limited Chelsea’s options for the final few matches of the season.
Wicks, a former England Under-21 international, said: “This is a big one for both teams. Rangers need points and even though Chelsea are in those two finals, this is still a really important game for them.
“Chelsea will need to put a strong side out and in any case Terry, Ramires and Meireles are suspended for the Champions League final so there’s no need to rest them with that in mind.
“Obviously Chelsea will be favourites. But you never know, they might be tired after that Champions League game – matches like that can really take it out of you – and that could work in Rangers’ favour.”

John Terry seems determined, as ever, to overcome the injury suffered in Moldova and declare himself available for Chelsea’s match against Queens Park Rangers at the weekend. And that trait of resilience ought to be admired even if it might provoke another diplomatic incident when the west London clubs resume their stormy relationship.
It need hardly be added that Loftus Road was the scene of the Premier League fixture last season after which Terry was accused of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand and that simmering resentment on the QPR side caused the communal pre-match handshakes to be abandoned when the clubs met in the FA Cup a few months later.
The subsequent decision of a magistrate to clear Terry has done nothing to dispel it and now Terry faces an FA charge.
The word is that several QPR players, naturally including Ferdinand if he recovers from injury, plan to refuse to shake Terry’s hand — and even that of Ashley Cole, who supported his club colleague in court and was disgracefully labelled a “choc ice” by some idiot whom Rio Ferdinand foolishly endorsed on Twitter.
It has been suggested that, in order to avoid such ugliness, the whole ritual should again be dropped. But I hope the Premier League stand firm. This is one of FIFA’s better ideas.
A pre-match declaration of sportsmanship sends a message that football is not really tribal conflict, whatever may happen over 90 minutes. Anything else in this instance would exemplify an ill within the game: that of the tail wagging the dog.
Those who feel a gesture of contempt is in order at Loftus Road are welcome to proceed — as long as they are prepared to apologise should Terry eventually add an FA acquittal to his legal one.
John Terry, Cashley Cole and Patrick Barclay can all get F***ed IMHO. Barclay - what a load of bullshite - this was one of FIFA's more stupid ideas. Dump the handshake ritual, it's bollox. Next thing you, "no one is a loser, it's taking part that counts."

Typical crap from that C*****a supporting git. Forget his Scottish club, he his their mouthpiece.
Handshakes would not defuse the situation as much as the FA having held their enquiry would have done.

Hoping to get round to doing some big-ish flags for the game if I get the chance. Any ideas on being able to get flag poles into the ground? It seems a grey area as I see small and medium flags fairly frequently on small poles and stewards don't seem to mind but I'm not 100% sure about bigger ones. Maybe one of those telescopic flag poles people use for camping could work....

Frank Lampard would relish the opportunity to take a penalty when Chelsea face west London rivals QPR on Saturday.
The Chelsea and England midfielder dispatched successive penalties for England against Moldova and Ukraine and is confident he could repeat the feat if called upon for Chelsea in the white-hot derby atmosphere at Loftus Road.
Following his 86th-minute equaliser against Ukraine at Wembley, Lampard admitted it’s becoming more difficult to score from the spot but insisted his experience is key.
“I’m happy to have broken Bryan Robson’s record of 26 England goals,” said the 34-year-old.
“But I’m more happy that I hit the ball into the back of the net.
“Someone has to take penalties and I have experience of doing it.
“The are never easy especially as I took one a few days ago against Moldova and goalkeeper are watching how you take them in the hope of stopping you - so there are some mind games going on at that point.”
Asked by London24 if he relished those key moments, Lampard replied: “That’s a good question. Obviously it’s great to get one to put us back in the game, but ideally I’d like us not to in that position to start with - you relish it when it hits the back of the net I can assure you,” he laughed.
With 563 appearances and 194 goals for the Blues under his belt - as well as 93 England caps - Lampard is one of the most decorated England players in history.
And the ultra-professional Chelsea man he is acutely aware of how he can preserve his career at the top level.
But after one journalist suggested he was playing a deeper role for club and country in order to extend his career, Lampard offered a compelling and classically simple response.
“I’m not playing deeper to prolong my career,” he said.
“No, its what I’m asked to do. As far as England is concerned, the manager [Roy Hodgson] asked me to get forward more in the second half and get into the box which is what I did.
“Obviously I try and do it at certain times at Chelsea, but we have a lot of attacking players at the Bridge so I have have to be even more disciplined at times there.
“But I do what the manager asks and I enjoy doing I too.”

Esteban Granero will put friendships on hold when Queens Park Rangers do battle with west London rivals Chelsea at Loftus Road on Saturday.
The midfielder signed from Real Madrid in the transfer window and made his Premier League debut in the 3-1 defeat by Manchester City before the international break.
The Hoops are still in search of their first league win this term and Blues’ scalp will be a big one for Granero who admits he can’t wait to play against close friend Juan Mata.
“I like the speed and power of the Premier League,” Granero said.
“I’m an aggressive player in a good way and I will mix well with this type of football.
“I like to play against my friends. I have friends here, for example I will play Mata on Saturday.
“I used to play with him in Real’s academy. We are friends until two hours before the game.”
He added: “Of course it’s important to beat Chelsea because it will be our first win and give us a lot of confidence.
“It’s great for our supporters because we’ll be playing our neighbours in our stadium, so it’s about more than just three points.
“We must train well this week and we will see what happens at the weekend, but we are very focused on the game.”
The former Real Madrid man is hopeful that QPR will soon add to their solitary point but after signing 12 new players this summer he understands that there will be a period of integration.
“There are a lot of new players here so we must get to know each other first,” he said.
“We must improve, but this team will do that when it spends more time together.
“One point from the first three games is not unexpected, but this is not the way it will remain.
“This season will be great - I can see that in my team-mates’ faces. There are quality players here, so just give us time.”
