Hoops defender Danny Gabbidon has still not recovered from a knee injury and will therefore miss Sunday's derby against Chelsea at Loftus Road.

Adel Taarabt has been suffering from a mild virus but is likely to be fit and there was some encouraging news regarding foot injury absentees Kieron Dyer and DJ Campbell today.

Campbell had an operation this week and was expected to be out for two months, but may come back sooner and Dyer may now return in December despite initial fears that he could be sidelined until the new year.

Absence is unlikely to have made the heart grow fonder in the 15 years since we last travelled to the north of the Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham for a competitive match, but this fixture is eagerly anticipated. TALKING POINTS
Chelsea arrive at our second west London derby of the season on a high, having hit 13 goals in three games in all competitions. The thrashing of Genk established a new highest score for home games in the Champions League and allowed Andre Villas-Boas to rest several regular starters fully ahead of the short trip across the borough to Shepherd's Bush.

It will be our first league meeting with Queen's Park Rangers for 15 years and it is fair to say the hosts are quite worked up about it. Less so Blues supporters. And to the experienced Chelsea players it is obviously a potentially tricky fixture, but still fundamentally third versus 11th.

KEY STAT
Last weekend's strike by Heidar Helguson is the only home goal scored by one of QPR's own players over 376 minutes this season.

The noises from the Rs camp are redolent of the clichés produced by the underdog before a cup final: the crowd being the 12th man, the baying hordes close to the pitch affecting the visitors, and the playing field itself being smaller than Chelsea are used to.

Well, it is true that at 112 yards by 72 Loftus Road has one of the League's smallest fields. However, it is just one yard shorter and one narrower than the familiar surface of Stamford Bridge.

QPR is a club that has had to roll with the punches over recent years. On top of an impressive promotion campaign, there has been substantial change at boardroom level.

New owner Tony Fernandes pledges to invest more than the previous regime, which had encouraged but not justified the 'richest club in the world' mantra. (At least one of those previous owners, Bernie Ecclestone, is a well-known Chelsea supporter.)

The Malaysian straight away partially reversed deeply unpopular season ticket price hikes - though home attendances are still currently averaging only 84% of the 19,000 capacity.

He also invested in wages for players such as Joey Barton, Anton Ferdinand and Shaun Wright-Phillips (pictured below) to bolster manager Neil Warnock's squad.

Still, Rangers are yet to win in front of their own this season - their two wins have come at Everton and Wolves - and they were humiliated 6-0 in the junior west London derby at Fulham.

And in the week Patrick Agyemang went on a month's loan to Millwall, fellow striker DJ Campbell has gone under the knife for a metatarsal injury that will rule him out for some time.

Add the spats between teammates Adel Taarabt and social media lifestyle coach Barton, and Warnock's odd attack on a fan who leaked the news that Taarabt had been dropped to the bench ahead of their recent 1-1 draw with Blackburn, and you have a club under some pressure.

On the other hand, Chelsea must secure all three points to maintain pressure on the Manchester clubs, who face each other earlier the same day. They must do so without Fernando Torres, on a run of four goals in four matches, who serves the last of his three-match suspension.

With several regulars restored to the starting line-up on Sunday, the Blues are one shy of 6,000 league goals. Who, if anyone, will claim that minor landmark at Loftus Road?

By the way, travelling Chelsea fans should be aware that Rangers policy is that no alcohol will be on sale in away end at their ground. Perhaps they believe, as we hope, that the home fans will be the only ones needing to drown their sorrows.

It would be remiss not to mention another huge derby match taking place up north. Crewe v Macclesfield, though, is a Football League Division Two game.

Meanwhile, in Manchester, United entertain City. The hosts have had much the better of their meetings at Old Trafford since 2008.

MATCHDAY TRAVEL NEWS - DISTRICT LINE DISRUPTION

Anyone heading to Loftus Road for Sunday's game against QPR may appreciate the following information.

If you're using London Underground services to get to the game then be aware the District Line will be closed between Wimbledon and Edgware Road.

There will be no service between Baker Street and Royal Oak on the Hammersmith and City Line and High Barnet and Camden Town on the Northern Line.

The entire Circle Line will be closed this weekend, as will the Victoria Line. There will be replacement buses running for all Underground lines experiencing engineering works.

There will be no DLR service between Bank/Tower Gateway and Poplar/West India Quay this weekend.

London Overground services will have no service between Gospel Oak and Barking. Rail replacement buses will be in operation.

National rail users should note buses will replace Southeastern trains between New Cross and Dartford on Sunday due to planned engineering works.

There will also be no Southern train service between Victoria and Epsom, nor any service between Watford Junction and Clapham Junction. Buses will also replace Southern trains between Balham and West Norwood on Sunday.

Anyone driving to the game will be pleased to hear there are no major roadworks within the vicinity of Loftus Road, although fans are advised to check their route before departure through either the AA or RAC websites.

If you are driving to the stadium then please think of Chelsea's Liftshare Scheme, which allows fans with space in their car to give a fellow Blue a lift to the game.

Byrne was a fans' favourite at QPR
John Byrne knows a thing or two about beating Chelsea, so how can his former club QPR somehow overcome them in their FA Cup third-round encounter?

"Pick me and Gary Bannister!" he jokingly told BBC Sport.

"'Banno' and I probably couldn't run for a bus now. But we loved playing against Chelsea, that's for sure."

They certainly did.

Bannister netted two hat-tricks against them for QPR, one of them in a 6-0 mauling of the Blues at Loftus Road in 1986, in which Byrne scored twice.

It will remain QPR's greatest victory over their neighbours unless the current team achieves the unthinkable on Saturday.

Weeks before the six-goal demolition of a title-chasing Chelsea side, Byrne also hit the net in a League Cup quarter-final tussle with them, which Rangers won in a replay on their way to the final.

"The cup game was great itself but the 6-0 win a few weeks later was amazing and thinking about it brings back great memories," said Byrne.

"We tore them to shreds. Doug Rougvie, who was playing at centre-back for Chelsea, was a fearsome player and he was absolutely furious. By the end, Doug was looking for blood.

"We had the Milk Cup final coming up a couple of weeks later. Banno and me didn't want to get injured so having destroyed Chelsea, we spent the last part of the match avoiding Doug, who was an angry man.

"We stayed away from him. Banno went to play on one wing and I went and played on the other!

"It was an unbelievable game to play in. We just played so, so well and everything we did came off. They couldn't handle us that day."

Byrne's tormenting of Chelsea was not confined to his QPR days.

The former Republic of Ireland forward's equaliser for Sunderland in an FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge in 1992 took the tie to a replay.

Sunderland, then a Second Division team, won the return match and went on to face Liverpool in the final.

"I always seemed to do well against Chelsea," Byrne recalled.

"I scored for QPR at Stamford Bridge one year and of course there was the goal for Sunderland. I did seem to have the Indian sign over Chelsea when I played against them.

"Games between QPR and Chelsea used to be great and the atmosphere was brilliant - especially at Loftus Road.

"The ground is so tight with the crowd practically on top of you and you can't beat the place for atmosphere.

"They were great days for Rangers and I've some great memories of my time there."

Byrne's swagger and his strike partnership with Bannister formed part of an era in which QPR were often west London's leading club.

For the best part of two decades they fared better than their counterparts from SW6 and put them to the sword on a number of occasions.

Rangers finished above Chelsea in 15 of the 22 seasons prior to their relegation from the top division in 1996.

How times have changed.

This weekend the two clubs meet in the FA Cup, 12 years after Chelsea won a third-round clash 2-1 against a QPR side on their way to relegation from the top flight.

Since losing their Premiership status, Rangers have been in - and almost returned to - administration and the third tier of English football, suffering a multitude of problems on and off the pitch.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have grown into one of Europe's top clubs, taking on the likes of Barcelona and AC Milan while QPR have faced the likes of Chesterfield and Wrexham.

The gulf between the clubs is currently massive and Saturday's game has the makings of a mismatch.

The hope for Rangers is that the gap is about to close and that the recent takeover by Formula One magnates Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore, followed by further investment from steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, will help them become an established Premier League club again.

"I feel really sad to see QPR down there," said Byrne.

"I know some of their fans will hate going to Chelsea as the plucky underdogs. A few years back you'd never have thought that would happen.

"QPR have never been a massive club like Chelsea but they were always associated with good teams and good football.

"That was the case before my time, when they had Stan Bowles and other great players, and after that in the early 1990s.

"I'd love to see them get back where they belong and hopefully with the investment, they can do it.

"You need that investment to not just get to the Premier League but to stay there. You have to spend and keep spending these days and hopefully QPR will now be able to do that.

"You have to say it's going to be very difficult for them on Saturday because Chelsea are a great side.

"But come on, this is the FA Cup and anything can happen. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for them."

How long have you supported Chelsea?

Well, I’m in my mid 40’s now so I guess that’s nearly half a century of supporting Chelsea! Put it this way, I’ve stood in the Shed and seen us get relegated. That was a long time ago but it’s seared into my memory as if it was yesterday.

There is only one team in west London and they play in hoops, why Chelsea!?

Not sure what you mean by that question.

Who's Chelsea’s biggest Rival (or Rivals)?

Traditionally it’s been Fulham and Spurs, but more recently it’s been teams like Barcelona and Man Utd. To be honest, the team we love to beat these days is Liverpool. 20 years and counting to win the league is a long time and we’re happy to play our part in extending this. Listening to Scousers talk you’d have thought they’d invented football but what people don’t realise is that Chelsea won their first European trophy before Liverpool and we were the first UK team to be invited to play in the newly formed European Cup in the 50’s.

Are you happy with your team and how things are to date? – What are your opinions on your manager AVB? His spending/selling this summer?

We’re happy with the style of football AVB is trying to instil at the Bridge and the dynamic pass-and-move nature of the team is winning people over. The board of Chelsea are also fully committed to him so at the moment everything seems to be going well. The big test will be when the difficult periods arrive – as they will – and whether the board will continue to back him. We’re all a bit tired with the constant chopping and changing of managers and would prefer some stability.

What do you think of your current Owner? WHY is he involved? What do you expect from him?

Roman’s been magnificent, absolutely first class. Yes, he’s been a bit trigger happy at times and interfered with managers like Mourinho etc, but overall 3 Premierships, 3 FA Cups and 2 Carling Cups tell their own story. We’ve had a wild time.

How do you think Chelsea treats its fans? Appreciates them? Listens to them? Screws them?

How long have you got? When Peter Kenyon ran the Fans Forum a lot of changes were made at the instigation of the fans and the relationship between the Club and many fans groups was pretty good. However, over time, the Club has become increasingly reluctant to engage with us and is starting to flex its muscles in a dictatorial fashion. Trust is beginning to break down if I’m perfectly honest.

Who are you Dangermen/Most valued/most overrated/most underrated players?

This is a hotly debated topic that could leave me open to widespread abuse when I next visit the Bridge! Everybody’s opinion is different so if you’d ask 1,000 fans you’d get 1,000 answers. However, I think you’d be stretched to find a fan who thinks Salomon Kalou should be a first team regular. Malouda’s form is also too erratic. Overall, though, we have a fantastic squad. Underrated? The media focus on Torres is obscene yet he is looking deadly at the moment – when lady luck turns his way he could have a blistering season.

Are you happy with your youth set up? Is your club doing enough to bring young/local talent through the ranks?

We have a great youth set-up and are doing everything we can to bring young players through. The facilities at Cobham are exceptional and the whole set-up is geared towards sustained long term success. The only criticism is Michael Emanelo’s appointment as technical director. I’m not sure what he brings to the table although Frank Arnesen hardly set the world on fire and he had a stellar reputation before he arrived.

Who would you say was the greatest Chelsea player that you yourself personally saw? And past player? (You can name more than one if it's that close!)

Ruud Gullit was the best player I have ever seen in a Chelsea shirt. He was a one man team and his presence at Chelsea was one of the building blocks of our rise since the early 90’s. He had awesome skill, power, athleticism, intelligence and leadership. Whilst many people would vote for Franco Zola (good as he was), as a complete football player Gullit gets my vote.

What is your prediction for Chelsea this season?

Top 2. Hopefully first. It depends on whether we can get the team to click on a consistent basis. Man Utd have already beaten us but they were slightly lucky in that match and the return fixture should be interesting. Man City are also rivals but they have a self-destruct button lurking in the background.

Are you aware of any player or manager links between our two clubs past and present?

Gavin Peacock played for you after captaining us in the mid 90’s. He was a great player and if his shot had gone in rather than clip the bar in the ’94 FA Cup Final, he could have been an all-time legend. He’s a very genuine fellow, I have a lot of respect for him and I believe he is now in the US studying to be a preacher.

What is your view and the general Chelsea view of QPR (If we even feature in your consciousness) or of Neil Warnock and our owners?

I once read in a Chelsea fanzine that QPR was like an annoying little brother, half your age, who just irritates the hell out of you. That’s fairly accurate. As for Warnock, Ken Bates invited him to become manager of Chelsea in 1991 and he turned us down because he didn’t want to leave the North. That excuse looks a bit thin now!

Who (if any) is your most memorable/favourite QPR Player over the years?

I am old enough to remember your great 1970’s side and Gerry Francis was a truly inspirational player.

Did you attend home or away, any matches between our two clubs when we were last in the premiership? Any memorable matches between our two clubs that stand out for you? And the reasons why?

One of my favourite games in my whole life was in 1990 (I think) when you were 2-0 up and we equalised before Joe Allon scored an overhead kick in the dying minutes. The whole away end went ballistic. I’ve never forgotten that game, it’s one of my top ten games of all time, and believe me, I’ve seen many, many hundreds (if not thousands).

Your score prediction for QPR v Chelsea?

3-1 to Chelsea. We’re a good team, believe me.

What, realistically, do you think Chelsea are capable of achieving in the next five years?

The sky’s the limit. We’d obviously like to go one step further in Europe.

What are your and the general view of Chelsea supporters regarding the proposed new stadium? And the suggested site in white city if this was of interest to Abramovich ? The QPR support would not welcome such a move, would you ?

We’re very angry about the situation. Whilst most fans agree that we probably need to move, the Club aren’t giving us any guarantees where they want to move to. Now, given that 12,000 of us own the Stamford Bridge pitch, turnstiles and brand name Chelsea FC, we’re pissed off that the Club want us to hand these rights over for no guarantee. They must think we came down in the last shower. The vote on 27th October is monumental in the history of our Club.
White City? We’d prefer to move nearer Stamford Bridge, Earl’s Court being a particular favourite.

That was great Ha !

hopefully we can get some benefit out of it in the next two games !

So many Chelsea/QPR Players in the past more than any other PREM team i would imagine!
