QPR welcome Chelsea FC .
Next Sunday we welcome Chelsea FC to Loftus Road.
This will be our biggest test to date playing one of the “Big Four “ for first the first time since our arrival to the top flight.
One thing for sure is if we are not on the top of our game we are going to get punished.
To many of us , this particular game really gets the juices flowing , I know quite a few of us have family and friends that support the enemy so there's bragging rights to play for as well .
Of course we had the recent FA C up 1-0 loss not so long ago in 2008 but it seems an eternity back to March 1996 when we played our the last big Derbie game.
Our contests in the League span some 28 seasons and we have played each other 40 times in that period.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS 6, CHELSEA 0- Easter Monday, March 31 1986
A glorious Easter Monday as Rangers smashed home six goals to kill off Chelsea's League title hopes.
The R's went into this match in 14th place in the table. Chelsea were fourth and needed the points to rekindle their faltering challenge for the championship - especially after a 4-0 defeat against West Ham at Stamford Bridge on the Saturday.
It was a windy morning with intermittent rain showers peppering our Omniturf pitch, which had been much-criticised by Chelsea chairman Ken Bates earlier in the season.
For the first time in the history of this fixture, advance ticketing arrangements meant that there were no Chelsea fans infiltrating the Loft terrace. Cash admission was not permitted on the day so Rangers enjoyed terrific support from the all-ticket home end.
It took the Super Hoops only eight minutes to open the scoring. John Byrne's initial shot was charged down but Gary Bannister followed up to drill into the bottom right hand corner from an acute angle at the School End.
Cries of "Bann-is-ter...Bann-is-ter...Bann-is-ter..." (to the American marching tune) and "You're Not Singing Anymore..." rang out from the Loft terrace as the 4,000 Chelsea fans at the other end looked on in stunned silence.
Rangers doubled their advantage on 25 minutes. Byrne was involved again with a right wing cross, Terry Fenwick nodded the ball on and Bannister arrived in the six yard box to head home. A very noisy rendition of "Singing The Blues..." followed from the Loft.
A minute before the break, John Byrne picked up possession just inside the Chelsea half and lost his marker with a deft drop of the shoulder. He then dribbled past another four startled defenders amidst an orgy of skill before lashing into the net from just inside the box.
It was the most spectacular R's goal of the season and our fans rejoiced with versions of "John-ny Byrne, John-ny Byrne, John-ny Byrne" (against using the marching tune) and "Easy...Easy.."
The fourth came on 58 when Bannister tore away from the shambolic Chelsea back line and sent a low bullet-like shot into the right hand corner. Even the QPR stewards on the side of the pitch at the Loft End jumped up and down to celebrate. Meanwhile, the electronic scoreboard declared: "GARY HAT-TRICK BANNISTER"
Then on 64 minutes, Bannister whipped in a low cross from the right and Byrne provided a crisp finish for goal number five with the Chelsea rearguard in shreds. The Loft boys bounced around in unison with chants of "Blame The Pitch, Blame The Pitch, Blame The Pitch..." directed at the ashen-faced Ken Bates in the main stand.
Chelsea had striker David Speedie sent off two minutes later for flattening Ian Dawes with his elbow. The Rangers fans waved theatrically while singing "Bye Bye Speedie, Bye Bye Speedie..." (to the tune of Auld Lang Syne) as he plodded dejectedly from the arena.
The sixth blue and white hooped goal in Chelsea's net came in the 82nd minute. Substitute Leroy Rosenior ran from the halfway line through a wide open defence before firing firmly past despairing goalkeeper Steve Francis. The jubilant Loft bellowed "We Want Seven...We Want Seven..." as the visiting fans headed for the exits.
Chelsea manager John Hollins said afterwards: "It's been a very bad Easter for us, but I want to give QPR full credit for their performance."
John Byrne Remembers
"Probably the best game was when we beat Chelsea 6-0 at Loftus Road on Easter Monday 1986," recalls Byrne.
"I'll never forget that day! It was just one of those occasions when everything went right for us. Banna was on fire - he scored a hat-trick and I got a couple too.
"I remember one of my goals where I picked up possession on the halfway line. It was funny on that plastic pitch, because bodies would fall all around you if you got into your stride. So eventually I wriggled free and slotted a shot into the bottom corner.
"There were some big name players in the Chelsea line-up, including centre-back Doug Rougvie who seemed like he wanted to kill somebody when the score was 5-0! He was certainly looking for blood!
"We had the Milk Cup Final coming up and I remember saying to Banna with about 15 minutes to go 'I ain't going anywhere near Rougvie'. And Gary replied 'Neither am I!' So we both ended up playing on the wings with no one in the middle!

This was our second league victory at Stamford Bridge but it wasn’t enough to keep us up. Pat Needham wrote the following report for the Sunday Mirror:
‘Substitute Martyn Busby appeared like a fairy godmother to guide Rangers to their first win of 1979 – offer a ray of hope in their relegation struggle. With the match poised at 1-1. Busby made his entrance on the hour and set up Glen Roeder’s goal five minutes later. Then he sealed this grim battle for First Division survival with a goal of his own in the 74th minute.
From Chelsea’s viewpoint this was surely one of the final nails in their coffin. On St. Patrick’s Day of all days, Chelsea Manager Danny Blanchflower was entitled to expect a little luck. But it didn’t work out that way. “It wasn’t a good day for us, was it ?” he said. “We need a lot of luck to stay up and we’re just not getting it at the moment.” It was no surprise when Rangers took the lead in the 23rd minute. Chelsea defender Nutten lost the ball then failed to make a convincing challenge on Goddard, who slipped the ball past Borota.
As Ray Wilkins found his touch, Chelsea began to buzz. In the 35th minute, Wilkins found Stanley on the right and his cross was pushed past his own keeper by Shanks, as he rushed back to clear. For a while, Chelsea looked the likelier side. But after Docherty wasted an open goal chance from only five yards out – a miss leading to his replacement by sub Langley – Busby stepped in to steal the show. Man of the match: Ray Wilkins (Chelsea). Rangers Manager Steve Burtenshaw missed the match. He was in the Midlands trying to clinch the £100,000 signing of West Brom winger Willie Johnston.’
The headline on the back of the above Press photo reads: ‘Chelsea Blues !!! ‘ – and goes on to say: ‘Ian Gillard of Queen’s Park Rangers, right, fires in a powerful shot during today’s First Division clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Goalkeeper Peter Borota gets in the way with the help of defender David Stride. Rangers won the match 3-1 to give Chelsea further cause for concern.’
Our victory was on the back of five successive defeats and ten without a win. In fact, our last victory was against Manchester City on 16th December. Chelsea finished bottom on 20 points, followed by Birmingham City on 22 points and we were also relegated in 20th position with 25 points, 6 points adrift of Derby County. In May, Tommy Docherty returned as Manager.

John Hollins captained the opposition and Ray Wilkins also played. Ken Jones’s match report appeared in the Sunday Mirror the following day:
‘Dave Sexton was delighted, but he wouldn’t let it show. Gloating is not his style. “I was nervous,” he admitted, as though embarrassed by the completeness of his comeback. Sacked by Chelsea three months ago, his return to Stamford Bridge as manager of Queen’s Park Rangers had turned out to be a triumph. “I was like a player going back to face a club who gave him a free transfer,” he said. “There was something to prove.”
The proof came with the sudden excellence of Rangers football in the second half. They scored three times and left Chelsea’s defence in ruins. But not before referee Bob Matthewson had been stretched to the limits of his patience by the seamier side of British football. “The worst referee we have had this season,” muttered someone in Chelsea’s tea room at half-time. It was a common complaint. The criticism ignored a constant flow of fouls and bickering back-chat. Mr Matthewson wasn’t always right. Referees rarely are. You take the good with the bad which is what the players were not prepared to do. “Cool it,” instructed both managers at half-time.
Cool it they did, but not before referee Matthewson had rightly booked Clement and Francis of Rangers and Chelsea’s Droy and Harris. By then, Parkes had kept Rangers going with a collection of outstanding saves as Chelsea surged forward with a wicked wind at their backs. Kember, Garland and Wilkins will all support Chelsea manager Ron Suart’s opinion that Parkes, on his day, is as good as there is. Losing Hutchinson with a back strain didn’t help Chelsea’s cause and with Kember at half speed they were suddenly there to be taken.
The damage was done on the floor by lively, intelligent running at the heart of a leaden-footed defence. But first it was Francis with a shot from nowhere in the fiftieth minute who sickened Chelsea. He found the top far corner of Phillips’ goal with an angled twenty-five yarder. A linesman’s flag delayed the jubilation, but only for a second or two. Referee Matthewson knew a good thing when he saw it. Within two minutes, Givens flat-footed Hay and the cumbersome Droy to strike Beck’s pass low and left-footed for the second.
He was six inches away from another barely a minute later. But it was Givens who got the third, running Bowles’s fine pass beyond Phillips to squeeze a shot through the legs of three defenders. “A game of two halves, “said Chelsea manager Suart. The right one belonged to Sexton. Man of the Match: Phil Parkes.
The back of the Press photo reads: ‘Ron Harris (Chelsea) receives treatment after being brought down by Gerry Francis of QPR (holding nose on left) who was booked for the incident. Stan Bowles takes advantage of the opportunity and sits on the ball for a breather’.
Martin Percival passed on the following quote from Stan Bowles that he found in an interview in ‘Street Life’ from May 1976. When asked about Ron Harris, he replied: “Yes, I must give him a mention. We’ve played Chelsea ten times and he’s been booked every time for tackles on me.” It was also very lively off the pitch, inside and outside the ground, but the R’s recorded an historic victory that day over our rivals who were also relegated that season.
