People may have seen Cruyff's famous passed-penalty which over the years has been occasionally copied. Anyway here is a reminder: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJHN1mN5SCgThis week in an U-21 game Portugal tried the same against Cape Verde but not with quite the same outcome: It also reminded me of when Pires tried it, this is even more amusing due to the dutch commentary:

That Cruyff ....Made defenders look stupid!
One of the truly all time greatest. Puffs like a chimney at a coal processing plant now! Thanks Eusebio, more Cruyff please.

Did Sousa teach them that before he left? ;D Very good defending actually. Not sure ;D but Mr Queiroz was not impressed...lucky they won with a goal from Rui Fonte of Arsenal who was linked with a loan to us. www.portugoal.net/index.php/more-natonal-team-news/919-duo-punished-for-penalty-farce-videoQueiroz comes down hard on Bruno Pereirinha and Rui Pedro Portugal U21 duo punished as ‘playful’ penalty goes wrong The Portuguese football hierarchy has taken a dim view of Bruno Pereirinha’s attempt to imitate Johan Cruijff’s famous passed penalty goal yesterday. In the closing minutes of Portugal U21s 2-0 victory over Cape Verde in the Madeira tournament, the Sporting midfielder stepped up to take a penalty, passed to team-mate Rui Pedro, but the ball was cleared before a shot on goal was even produced (see video). As a result of the blunder, both Bruno Pereirinha and Rui Pedro have been left out of Portugal’s next game against a Madeira XI, upon orders from the national team’s head coach, Carlos Queiroz. After the match Bruno Pereirinha explained why he had taken the penalty this way, and insisted he did not intend to show any disrespect to Portugal’s opponents. “It was something that had been decided with my team-mate. Unfortunately it went wrong. It was not an attitude of lack of respect for our opponents, but the circumstances of the game gave me the idea. “I’m here to accept that. The coach talked to me and told me not to ever repeat it. I can only say again that the decision to try it was not out of any disrespect to our opponents.”

I don't think they were showing disrespect to their opponents. LOL! ;D Quieroz wants to concentrate on sorting the full side out doesn't he? Edit: If the defender wasn't so alert they would have raved about it!

Fantastic. ;D ;D Thankyou very much. When I sleep at night Cruyff plays on the left, Garrincha on the right and it's me and Stanley in the middle!

Quieroz wants to concentrate on sorting the full side out doesn't he? Too bloody right, we're 4th in the group behind Albania for god sake...big game against Sweden tonight that we really have to win, especially having lost to Denmark at home 2-3 conceding 3 goals in the last 7 minutes.

Cruyff was a genius player and I loved his Barca side as well but this is my all time favourite penalty.
Euro 76 Final, Czechoslovakia v West Germany. Antonín Panenka scoring the winning goal in penalties. If your Czech isn't up to scratch then skip on to 3:18 of the clip.
