To be honest, I am not too troubled about this competition. Always the danger of getting an injury to a key player which could make all the difference to survival or relegation.

Yes play the reserves or thereabouts.... and forget these"micky mouse" competitions. Out priority is Premiership survival. Example: Birmingham last season....won a cup then what happened...and where are they now?!

why kenny they should put our new keeper in goal let him have a competetive game.
too many important players still in there dont understand that at all. i agree a good cup run cannot hurt and i also agree that we should put all our lesser players in and if they have a good run leave them in the cup team all the way includud if they got there.

Brazilian centre-back Bruno Perone could make his debut following his summer move to the club. Rochdale will hand a first start to Dutchman Pim Balkestein following his recent arrival on loan from Brentford. He will replace central defender Neal Trotman, who is suspended after being sent off at the weekend. MATCH FACTSHead-to-head • These clubs have only met twice, when they were in the old Third Division together in 1958/59. • They shared four goals at Spotland, and QPR won 3-0 at Loftus Road. Queen's Park Rangers • Winners in 1967, when West Brom were beaten 3-2 in the final, and Rodney Marsh was among their scorers. • First round victims to League Two Port Vale last season. • Failed to reach the third round in five of the last seven seasons. Rochdale • Hold the League Cup record for a fourth-tier club, having been runners-up in 1962. • But they have not progressed beyond the second round since. • The 3-2 home victory over Chesterfield in the first round, was only their second win from conventional play in 13 League Cup ties. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14539089.stm?utm_source=twitterfeed

Dog shit competition we should not be risking any important first team players pre survival is the only goal this season. Even our reserves shud get a result anyway.

I say make it a mixture of first team and reserves, lets not disrespect this competition completely fellas, remember we are previous holders of the league cup and like what happened when United completely disregarded the F.A. Cup , it did untold damage to the competition. It makes me laugh when i saw Alex Ferguson on a Foxtel/Sky promo to promote the F.A. cup last year, saying "its the greatest cup competition in the world" yet he has done more to de-value it than anyone else.I dont want to go down again neither, but we disrespect these competitions at our peril.Im sure if we managed to get to the final of this great old cup competition we would be bigging it up. So by all means play a weakened side but don't take the p***.
cheers,
Jay.

I say we should play Taarabt, he needs more match fitness and practice. Play him for half the match then replace him with Hogan.

why would anyone not want to win a trophy, i would love to see us win a cup, why just hope for survival that is a negative attitude, plus you get european football, and please dont say the europa league is mickey mouse, again i would love us to play against opposition from the continent, it would be a great expierence for the club, so lets start aiming higher than just surival for the rest of our lives, like some other clubs do.

Hopefully Derry won't be playing! Fulham Chronicle
QPR midfielder makes Carling Cup admissionBy Jacob Murtagh SHAUN Derry insists he would swap a Carling Cup winners' medal for a place in the Premier League next season. QPR begin their campaign against Rochdale at Loftus Road tonight, with boss Neil Warnock likely to ring the changes for the second round clash. But veteran midfielder Derry insists top-flight survival is their priority. He said: "Of course, the Premier League is the priority. “I am sure if Birmingham City fans could change things and still be in the top-flight rather than win the Carling Cup then they would. “But it's an opportunity for some players who might come in to show what they can do. “Our defeat [against Port Vale] last year was a bit of a damp squib - one of only a handful of games where the boys didn't do themselves justice. “So hopefully we can go out there, put on a show and progress." www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2011/08/23/qpr-midfielder-makes-carling-cup-admission-82029-29283531/#ixzz1VppM6nBq

QPR Official Site CARLING CUP PREVIEW: ROCHDALE Posted on: Tue 23 Aug 2011 Neil Warnock is set to ring the changes when Rochdale head to town in the Carling Cup tonight (Tuesday). The R's gaffer will shuffle his pack for the visit of the League One side, with wholesale changes expected following Saturday's magnificent 1-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park. Dale, meanwhile, will be hoping the Cup acts as a nice distraction away from the bread and butter of League One. Steve Eyre's side have registered just two points from a possible 12 so far, with Saturday's 2-0 defeat against Oldham Athletic further hampering their progress. Rochdale Team News: Likely starting XI ... Lucas Darby - Balkestein - Holness - Widdowson Thompson - Jones - Tutte - Adams Akpa Akpro - Grimes Player to Watch ... Ashley Grimes (Attacker) One of Steve Eyre's early acquisitions when arriving at Spotland, former Manchester City striker Ashley Grimes has started the season in fine form since departing Eastlands for pastures new. Scoring three goals in Dales' opening four games, including a brace against last year's League Two Champions Chesterfield in round one, Grimes has hit the ground running so far this term. Formally a Manchester City trainee, the 24 year old is once again reunited with former coach Steve Eyre, who he expressed as the main reason for his move to Rochdale, commenting: "I had interest from plenty of Clubs but when I knew Rochdale and Steve were interested it was a move I simply couldn't refuse." The Numbers Game: *3 - Number of years *9 - Dale's final placing in League One last term *17 - The amount of goals Gary Jones scored last season for Rochdale in League One *10, 199 - Capacity of the Spotland Stadium *1962 - The last time Dale picked up silverware Pre-Match Talk: *Neil Warnock - "It's fair to say the Carling Cup isn't a top priority for us this season. "It gives me the opportunity to look at one or two players who are on the fringes, as well as giving one or two others some much-needed game time under their belts to improve their match fitness." *Steve Eyre - "We're really looking forward to it. "It's not every day you get to pit your wits against a Premier League Club. "There's a little bit of the unknown about it in terms of what side Neil will send out on to the pitch, but we can't wait to go to Loftus Road." I'm reading Warnock may rest A FEW players...
This should be totally non-first team
Cerny in goal. (If he's not good enough for this, why have him?)
Shittu and Borrowdale, etc, ete. Vine (LFW say Cook & Rowlands could be playing)

Standard/Ian Gibb QPR wary of shock repeat as they play Rochdale Queens Park Rangers will have last season's shock League Cup exit against Port Vale on their minds when they face Rochdale at Loftus Road. Rangers capitulated 3-1 to the League Two side in the first round last season as boss Neil Warnock made it clear his priority was the League. New owner Tony Fernandes will not countenance a similar display against their League One opponents in tonight's second - round clash - the first at Loftus Road since he took control of the club. Midfielder Shaun Derry said: "The League is our priority. I'm sure Birmingham would rather be in the top flight than have won the League Cup. Our defeat was a bit of a damp squib - one of only a few of games when we didn't do ourselves justice." www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/football/article-23980495-qpr-wary-of-shock-repeat-as-they-play-rochdale.do
