Forest Green made it back-to-back friendly wins at the Corinium Stadium on Monday night.
Trialist James Rowe, Charlie Griffin and substitute James Norwood netted for Rovers.
There was another trialist in Forest Green’s attack in Richard Pacquette, who played for Eastbourne Borough last season and counts York City, Mansfield Town and Queens Park Rangers among his former clubs.A sixth minute corner by Rowe created panic in the home defence, and Griffin forced Andy Gunn to head onto his own crossbar before Pacquette nodded over. Four minutes later Jeffrey Imudia burst forward from right-back and provided the perfect cross for Rowe, who finished clinically from close range.
Rovers’ slick early possession was easy on the eye, and Reece Styche could have doubled their lead when he latched onto Kieron Forbes’ defence-splitting pass and fired narrowly wide.
Cirencester were even more fortunate on 23 minutes when Gunn was penalised for a needless trip on Griffin near the byline.
Styche strode confidently forward to take the spot-kick but saw his weak effort saved by former Forest Green stopper Danny Greaves.
Styche’s frustration was evident to all, not helped four minutes before the interval when he wandered free at the back post to meet Rowe’s corner and volleyed wildly over. Norwood replaced Styche at the start of the second half.
The hosts finally called Rovers keeper Matt Bulman into serious action when a half-cleared corner dropped for James Mortimer-Jones, whose cross-shot had to be helped over.
Bulman was keen to impress against his former club, and four minutes later he flung out an instinctive palm to keep out Jody Bevan’s header.
It was 2-0 to Forest Green with 55 minutes gone, an unmarked Griffin heading home another wicked Rowe corner.
That should have killed off the Southern League outfit, only for Norwood to get penalised for a shove on Mortimer-Jones on the edge of the box. Sean Wood took the resulting penalty and stroked it wide.
Pacquette was denied a goal by a sharp stop by Greaves at the near post, but it was all over with 15 minutes left when Norwood raced onto Bulman’s booming clearance and lifted the ball over substitute home keeper Mike Hedges.
