Football League Attendance Analysis
The Football League has previously released topline attendance data for Season 2010/11 that revealed crowds at matches in the npower Football League topped the 16m mark for the seventh consecutive season, with the npower Championship being the fourth best in attended division in Europe.
We've now analysed the data further and for the first time can reveal some more statistics about attendances last season. As well as the highest average attendances, the stats on this page confirm the best attended match, the club with the most season ticket holders, the average number of away fans per club and the most popular away grounds for fans to visit.

Summary Statistics:
Attendances
- Highest average attendance was Leeds United, followed by Derby County and Norwich City
- Highest in npower League 1 was Southampton, followed by Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic
- Highest average in npower League 2 was Bradford City, followed by Oxford United and Chesterfield
- Four clubs achieved at least one match attendance higher than 30,000 last season - Leeds United, Derby County, Southampton, Leicester City)
- The highest attendance for a single League match last season was 33,622 (Leeds United v. Sheffield United on the 25th September 2010)
- Biggest growth in attendances was seen at Chesterfield (+76%), Dagenham & Redbridge (+34%) and AFC Bournemouth (+22%)
- Norwich City had the highest occupancy rate - 98%
Season Ticket Holders
- The average number of season ticket holders per club was 11,580 in the championship, 4,451 in League 1 and 2,173 in League 2
- Most number of season ticket holders was Norwich City,
- Leicester City had the biggest growth in season ticket holders (+48%)
- The average crowd proportion of season ticket holders was 62%. Bradford City had the highest proportion (85%)
Away Fans
- The average number of away fans at games was 741
- Average away fans at npower Championship games was 1,234, in npower League 1 it was 630 and in npower League 2, 360
- The biggest average away following at games was for Leeds United (3,484), followed by Nottingham Forest (2,035). Sheffield Wednesday (1,722) had the highest average following in npower League 1 and Port Vale (886) in npower League 2
- Bournemouth, Oldham and Dagenham all doubled their average number of travelling fans last season
- Brighton & Hove Albion had the biggest away following as a proportion of fans that attend home games (19.1%). The highest in npower League 2 was Bury and Port Vale (both 14.7%) and in the npower Championship it was Leeds United (13.5%)
- Highest recorded away crowd was 6,763 (Barnsley v. Leeds United)
- Reading's Madejski Stadium was the most popular ground for npower Championship fans to visit (1,750 on visiting fans on average), Charlton Athletics' The Valley was most visited in npower League 1 (average of 957 visitors per match) and Chesterfield's new b2net Stadium the most popular away trip in npower League 2 (an average of 601 visiting fans)
