TRANSFER LEAK INFURIATES CHAIRMAN
CHAIRMAN Chris Wright has spoken about his "frustration" and "depression" over the Gerry Taggart affair.
Rangers seemed certain to sign the Northern Ireland international defender until the details of the deal were made public in leaked circumstances.
Mr Wright said:"It was incredibly frustrating. When you find a player you want to sign and you have an agreed deal, with a handshake and a commitment for the player to join us, and then you end up not getting him, well it just makes you so depressed.
"I'm used to dealing with situations where someone saying "Yes, I'll do it!" means that they will do it. But in football, that seems to mean nothing. I find it difficult to do business in a world when you can't believe what people say when they give you a commitment.
"In the Taggart situation, we had the player but the story leaked out. Because of that, two Premiership teams came in for the player. So you have to keep these things quiet, otherwise it just alerts other clubs that the player is available."
Taggart, 27, was available on a free transfer after being released by Bolton Wanderers. Following his meetings with QPR, he talked to Charlton Athletic, who arranged a press conference to announce the signing. However, the conference was cancelled at very short notice as Taggart signed for Leicester City!

NORTHERN IRELAND international defender Gerry Taggart has turned down an offer to join Rangers.
R’s chief executive Clive Berlin explains:"Unfortunately, the lure of the Premiership has defeated us. We’re very disappointed, but I suppose you have to be philosophical about these things.
"The chairman, boss Ray Harford and myself all met with the player three or four times since last Thursday and Friday. In one way, I’m pleased that we were able to offer him everything that was being offered elsewhere. In fact, we offered him better terms
"But the one thing we couldn’t offer him was Premiership football for this season. That lure just proved too much. So he’s decided not to join us and I believe he’s joining Charlton Athletic."
