Foyle Cup: Dubliners sink QPR to reach final stagesDublin side Ballybrack caused the shock of the Under 16 competition so far at the McDaids Football Special Foyle Cup when they beat QPR 3-0 in the quarter-finals yesterday. Hosts Derry & District went out by the odd goal in three to Waterford Schools.
Another Dublin side, St Kevin’s, and Donegal Schools made the semi-final line up with 1-0 wins over Limerick and Institute.
In the under-14s competition, holders Celtic progressed to a semi-final against Belfast side St Oliver Plunkett’s with a 2-0 victory over Donegal Schools.
Plunketts needed a penalty shoot-out to get past the Bertie Peacock YL. Hearts and Linfield played out a scoreless draw, only for the Scots to triumph from the spot. In their semi-final, they took on Aberdeen, who saw off NW Coleraine 2 0.
In the under-10 mini-soccer competition, Oliver Plunkett Colts saw off Coleraine Colts and there was a victory also for Maiden City over Derry & District Colts.
