QPR fail in Bothroyd bidJun 30 2011 QPR have been priced out of a move for Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd.
The England striker, although a free agent when his deal expires tomorrow, is understood to have wanted wages of around £50,000-a-week. And with a wage cap somewhere around half of that at Loftus Road – the club is no nearer the extra firepower needed to do better than Olly’s club. Although a pay packet was a problem in Bothroyd’s case[/b], the position of manager Neil Warnock was the rock on which the transfer of £4million Craig Mackail-Smith foundered, according to Peterborough director of football, Barry Fry. www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2011/06/30/qpr-fail-in-bothroyd-bid-82029-28965099/

Angry Bluebirds fans slam Jay Bothroydby Mark Bloom, South Wales Echo Jul 1 2011 FORMER Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd has become embroiled in a war of words with a section of Bluebirds fans on Twitter. And he has hit out at the Welsh press for linking him with Premiership new boys Queens Park Rangers. The one-cap England international accused the Welsh media of getting it all wrong, declaring don’t believe a word the Welsh press say – in spite of the fact the news came from a London-based newspaper. The same paper this week linked Bothroyd again with QPR, stating that his alleged wage demands of a reported £50,000 a week were too high and could scupper the possible move to the Premiership club. The latest outburst began when Bothroyd declared his surprise at Cardiff’s assistant manager Terry Burton being placed on gardening leave following Malky Mackay’s arrival at the Cardiff City Stadium. Bothroyd tweeted: “Can’t believe CCFC has put Terry Burton on gardening leave, he is one of the best coaches in the league, if not the best!” Other Cardiff fans criticised the England striker, saying he had “lost the respect” of supporters, but Bothroyd then hit back with a series of tweets, saying: “Haha Cardiff fans have short memory... Our team wasn’t good enough as a whole, that’s honest, and that’s why we didn’t gain promotion .” He followed that up with: “Not speaking about Cardiff anymore let’s see what happens. I really enjoyed my time at Cardiff but obviously fans didn’t appreciate [that]. “I love the way the Welsh people underestimate me, just like they did when I joined Cardiff. That’s OK though... I love proving people wrong.” Some Bluebirds fans jumped to the defence of the 28 year old, insisting he was one of the best strikers the club has had in recent times. Bothroyd then insisted he had always been loyal to the club, adding: “Thanks to the loyal Cardiff fans for supporting me ... You are great. I always did my best for the club and I honoured my contract. “Not many footballers do these days. So I can hold my head high.” Bothroyd is yet to decide on his future, with some reports suggesting he is close to signing for Neil Warnock’s Championship winners, but with Everton and Celtic also in the hunt. www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2011/07/01/angry-bluebirds-fans-slam-jay-bothroyd-91466-28974814/#ixzz1Qq6F3UNs
