Meaningless Impact...and points deductions for the same "crime" don't seem to be uniformly applied BBC - Kettering Town suffer two-point deduction Kettering Town have been deducted two points for fielding an ineligible player in two separate games. The Poppies failed to inform the Football Conference when extending the loan deal of a player, believed to be Leicester defender Luke O'Neill. He appeared in draws against York and Luton on 2 and 5 April respectively. Kettering have been fined £100 for each offence and are now on 56 points, dropping to 15th in the Blue Square Bet Premier, with Gateshead rising to 14th newsvote.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/13666339.stm

There goes the mighty FA, flexing once again their muscles upon the puny! Just as they did a while back to AFC Wimbledon. Perhaps the poor unpaid volunteer in the office who failed to spot that Jermaine Darlington was 'Welsh' has now moved to Kettering?
PS: Darlington, of course, was not Welsh but the 'felony' was that AFC Wimbledon had not sought to 're-register' him with the ENGLISH FA upon signing from Cardiff, with whom he'd been registered with the WELSH FA! For god'sakes he'd played ALL of his football in the English Leagues!

The punishment came from the Conference not the FA, they deducted the two points they acquired with an ineligle player, hundred quid per offence is not too great.
Got to say Vic, Darlington was not a registered player anywhere and AFC were at fault for not registering him. Christ, I'd have been at fault whilst being a secretary at the clubs i've been involved with if making the same error. It's hardly difficult to check if a player is actually registered to play. To play in any league that comes under the auspices of the FA pyramid you must be registered with the FA, any registration in another country is an elephant!

CPR, Darlington WAS still registered with the Welsh FA even after ceasing playing for Cardiff. Of COURSE a part-time clerk may well have overlooked the fact that INTERNATIONAL clearance was required and his registration be transferred to the English FA. I can't agree that it would behove somebody to even SUSPECT that such a ludicrous rule might exist, let alone look it up. All Cardiff players are registered with the Welsh FA - yet they play in the English League. All of this was taken into account at the appeal when the points fine was reduced from 18 to 5 (yes, a measly FIVE points) - just, no doubt to preserve the the face of those who brought the pathetic charge. Just imagine the case being brought to a Law Court. A judge summing up with "Well, when this case first came to Court, I considered AFC Wimbledon to be Extremely Guilty of this misdemeanour. But, on reflection, find them only to have been just a tiny bit guilty"! Surely they were only Guilty or NOT.

Am I right in thinking Cardiff and Swansea and Wrexham and co will be under the English FA's control from this season? Thought I read it somewhere

Yes you are. From next season onwards. Last season cardiff would have been stuffed big time.
