And a double verbal agreement is probably worth as much as one verbal agreement! Coventry Official Site

Or maybe not! BBC
Marlon King advisor denies Coventry City deal claim King ended the season with 13 goals in 29 appearances Marlon King's advisor has played down claims by Coventry City that the striker has verbally agreed a new two-year deal with the club. Last week Coventry announced that King had agreed to sign a contract. Chief executive Paul Clouting told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "We are delighted Marlon has shown loyalty." But King's advisor Tony Finnigan says that the player has rejected a two-year contract and is waiting for the formal offer of a three-year deal. Finnigan also revealed that a number of clubs have expressed an interest in the services of King, who joined the Champiobnship club following his release from prison last September. The former Watford and Wigan hitman finished last term as Coventry's top scorer, with 13 goals, and was also named the supporters' player of the season. The 31-year-old is out of contract this summer. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/c/coventry_city/9507778.stm

OOOOOOPPPS Coventry Telegraph
Marlon King set for Birmingham City medical todayMARLON King was today on the verge of signing for Birmingham City, dashing Coventry fans’ hopes that last season’s leading scorer would spearhead the club’s Championship campaign next season and beyond. The striker was due at St Andrew’s after returning from a family holiday in Dubai and expected to complete the formalities on a three-year deal with the Sky Blues’ Midland rivals, subject to him passing a routine medical. If the 31-year-old – who is understood to have been offered £15,000 a week at newly relegated Blues – puts pen to paper it will also come as a huge disappointment to manager Andy Thorn and club chairman Ken Dulieu. The club insist they had been given a “double” verbal agreement by the player and his advisor last Thursday that he was committed to the club that helped get his career back on track after a spell in prison. Although the majority of City fans took the previously wayward star to their hearts, voting him their player of the year, many will feel betrayed if he joins Alex McLeish’s squad and leaves a gaping hole in City’s attack for the new season. But Thorn will waste no time in switching his attention elsewhere to plug that gap and is understood to have already lined up a suitable high-profile replacement. He has similar contingency plans in the event that goalkeeper Keiren Westwood and midfielder Aron Gunnarsson reject their offers of new contracts.... www.coventrytelegraph.net/coventry-city-fc/coventry-city-fc-news/2011/06/09/marlon-king-set-for-birmingham-city-medical-today-92746-28848436/

Coventry furious over 'betrayal' as Marlon King signs for Birmingham
• King leaves Coventry despite verbal agreement to stay • Andy Thorn left 'betrayed, staggered and dismayed'The Coventry City manager Andy Thorn says he feels "betrayed, staggered and dismayed" after the striker Marlon King signed for their rivals Birmingham City. Coventry handed King a route back into football last year after his release from prison, and believed they had agreed terms on a new three-year contract last week. The club announced that the deal had been confirmed, with City's chairman Ken Dulieu telling the club's website: "We had always hoped we could convince Marlon to stay and have worked tirelessly with Andy Thorn to make this happen. We are delighted that he has verbally accepted." However, the 31-year-old King subsequently changed his mind, claiming that the club delayed sending him a written offer, and has now signed a three-year deal at Birmingham instead. Thorn told the Coventry Telegraph: "I feel betrayed on a personal and professional level by what has happened. I have no idea what sort of advice he has been given but I think he should have considered how well he has done here, the way the supporters have backed him and accepted him. "What Marlon is claiming simply does not stack up. He spoke to me last Thursday to confirm he wanted to stay, the story came out in the media that he had agreed to stay with us, yet 24 hours later we heard rumours that he was talking to Birmingham. I am staggered and dismayed at what has happened." King, who scored 12 goals in 28 appearances for Coventry, maintained he had acted properly throughout. "I haven't done anything wrong. Yes I did phone the manager because I was happy with the three-year deal and I was willing to sign. I said let's do it, I want to sign. I said get the contract over to me but that didn't materialise. "I called my adviser, Tony Finnigan, and asked what was going on and he said nothing had come through on the computer in writing." www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/10/coventry-marlon-king-betrayal-birmingham
