Reading Official Site Permanent Leigertwood deal agreed Reading Football Club are delighted to announce that we have come to an agreement over the permanent purchase of Mikele Leigertwood from Queens Park Rangers. The club will pay a substantial fee for the 28-year-old, with all terms having now been finalised with both Queens Park Rangers and Mikele himself. The paperwork will be submitted this Wednesday 1st June when the domestic transfer window reopens and he will then become our player on a permanent three-year contract. The 28-year-old midfielder has been a revelation since Brian McDermott signed him on loan in November, only experiencing two defeats in 27(+1) appearances. He went 18 League games unbeaten from the beginning of his loan, and was instrumental in helping the team finish the season so strongly. This news comes as a major boost at a key time for the club, and we are also certain it will also be very well received by our supporters, who have gained the utmost respect for the Antiguan internationals after a series of superb displays in partnership with Jem Karacan. Chairman Sir John Madejski said, "This is magnificent news for the club; Mikele has been absolutely tremendous since he came here and it's wonderful that he will remain with us on a permanent basis. We have made an investment in him, but he has also made an investment in us by committing to the cause. It's fantastic to hear of anyone who comes to Reading and is so keen to stay with us, everyone connected to the club should take that as a feather in their cap." Director of Football Nick Hammond added, "This is a fantastic signing for Reading Football Club. Mikele has been a great fit for us from the very first moment he walked through the door, his level of performance has been outstanding to a point where there has been significant interest from other clubs - but he has never wavered in his desire to come here. We are delighted to have him." Manager Brian McDermott said, "I knew from the first day Mikele came here that he would be perfect for Reading, and that has proved to be the case. I'm delighted he has joined us, not just because of his attributes as a player but also as a person, he has all the criteria that are good about professional footballers, all that the criteria that are good about Reading Football Club. He's very popular among the group, and we're looking forward to the next three years." Mikele commented, "It goes without saying but I'm absolutely delighted. I've been very happy since the first minute I came here, and long may that continue. I came in November but it feels like I've been here a while because I've been made so welcome by everybody, it's such a good club. It's been a good season - now I'm hoping it can get even better." www.readingfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10306~2366989,00.html

Great player in my opinion, a shame he didn't always get the praise he deserved! Best of luck to him, worked hard for us.

Good player that has / has the potential to be even more than that, but didnt have the mentality required to do that IMO. I've seen him run games for us, I've also seen him stink the place out & give off the impression that he'd rather be in Nando's. Good luck to him though.

"who did the paperwork?" asked andy. Yeah....and who 'brokered' the deal?....... and who copped for the commission? ...and was there an outside agent (who is yet to be even aware of the deal) involved?

Express put at around a million. (Wonder if that includes wages) MIKELE LEIGERTWOOD IS ONE IN A MILLION Story Image Mikele Leigertwood moved to Reading on loan in November and has now signed a three-year deal Friday May 27,2011 By Frank Wiechula Comment Speech Bubble Have your say(0) HE knocked back the chance of a title medal with QPR for a tense Championship play-off final against Swansea but Mikele Leigertwood is not complaining. Midfielder Leigertwood moved to Reading on loan in November and yesterday signed a three-year deal for about £1million. “Obviously I’d love to have a medal, but I wouldn’t have felt right in taking one,” he said. “I don’t think I played enough games. “To stay and sit on the bench, you could probably deal with it for a little while. But for me it’s all about playing football and I was given the opportunity to do that here at Reading. “I’ve got nothing to prove to QPR. The manager, Neil Warnock, was honest with me and I can’t ask for much more than that.” His arrival coincided with Reading’s surge up the table and Reading boss Brian McDermott said: “To get Mikele is important. Since he walked in he has been terrific. He’s made for us, has a great work ethic, is a good player and very popular around the group.” Leigertwood, 28, has tasted defeat just twice in 28 Reading appearances. A lucky charm – but one who was unable to test that theory in Las Vegas after being forced to cancel his stag do because of Monday’s match. He marries Lizandra after the final and said, joking: “We could have the stag do at Wembley.” www.express.co.uk/posts/view/249110/Mikele-Leigertwood-is-one-in-a-millionMikele-Leigertwood-is-one-in-a-million#ixzz1NVHOc9eh
