FANS' FORUM CANCELLED
Posted on: Thu 19 May 2011
Port Vale has regrettably had to cancel the fans' forum which was planned for Tuesday May 24.
The decision comes after the club received reports of planned disruption from groups of supporters behind the proposed investment from Mo Chaudry. Unbelievably, proposed guest Ian Taylor also received warnings not to attend via his Twitter account.
The fans' forum would have been the first interactive event of its kind at Vale Park, with fans able to listen live on BBC Radio Stoke and the internet and also pose questions via email and twitter. But the club has now cancelled the forum, meaning supporters will no longer be able to put their questions to CEO Perry Deakin or former player Taylor.
Said Perry Deakin: "We could not have been clearer regarding the absence of any political content during the event. It had nothing to do with any proposed takeover of the club or the forthcoming EGM. It was not organised by members of the Board and none of them would have been present.
"Instead, it was forum - organised with good will and free to attend - which would give an opportunity for supporters to pose questions to myself about the running of the club, as well as to speak to a well-respected former player about his memories of Port Vale and thoughts on football in general.
"It is a very sad day indeed when a club legend such as Ian, who has only positive things to say regarding his time at the club and has no political agenda whatsoever, is unable to return to share his fabulous memories and behind the scenes insight with genuine fans.
"The club has been criticised in some quarters for not communicating with the supporters. Now, we have been forced to cancel an event which would have been an ideal platform for this. It would be unfair to subject Ian to any animosity when he has agreed to attend the forum with no fee and in good faith.
"I'm saddened that a minority of the club's fans seemingly saw this as an opportunity to cause disruption. Every supporter is entitled to their opinion, but the cancellation of this event has prevented many fans from attending what could have been a very enjoyable evening.
"Port Vale remains committed to communicating with the fans and we plan to organise events such as fans' forums in the future. Hopefully, we will not have the same outcome next time."
