Firms pay out on QPR despite investigation By Ian Wilkerson 30 APR 2011 HILLS, Bet365and Skybet have decided to pay out on QPR winning the Championship even though Neil Warnock’s side may face a points deduction this week. Rangers took an unassailable lead at the top of the second tier with a 2-0 victory at Watford yesterday but face an FA investigation this week into a possible breach of the Football League’s ruled over the third-party ownership of players. The player at the centre of the controversy is Alejandro Faurlin and the FA is set to hear QPR’s case on Tuesday with a verdict set to be delivered on Friday. Boylesports and Blue Square will decide on Friday what action to take but Hills have seen enough. Goals from Adel Taarabt and Tommy Smith were enough to give them victory at Vicarage Road. www.racingpost.com/news/sport/firms-pay-out-on-qpr-despite-investigation/850889/top/

well that looks promising, although they would look like complete idiots if we get stripped of the title and they had given away all that money for nothing

I seem to remember that the bookies paid out on Man ure winning the league few years back, only for them to be pipped by a point on the last day of the season.

What's the rationale for them doing it?
Presumably they can't get their money back....and presumably they have to pay out the same amount?

I put 25 quid on QPR to win the league at 14-1 with betfair last August - that's not paid out yet but looking forward to it when they do!

I backed them after the sheff utd game in august at 6-1 with coral so will have to wait so double whammy waiting on the hearing. The case has not changed since the charges were first put forward and no one knows what will happen. So lets enjoy the next few days and hope all goes well on friday.

I put a few quid on us finishing 2nd or below when the Faurlin case was announced, so I could at least make some money out of the FA potentially forking us over, and I haven't been told I've lost yet..

Ladbrokes pay out on QPR as Championship winners - 1/2 tostay...Ladbrokes: Ladbrokes pay out on QPR as Championship winners - 1/2 tostay up and 16/1 to qualify for Europe By Sarah Preece on 1 May 2011 10:34 www.liveoddsandscores.com/press-releases/444228/ladbrokes-ladbrokes-pay-out-on-qpr-as-championship-winners-12-tostay-up-and-161-to-qualify-for-europLadbrokes HAVE paid out on QPR as the winners of the Championship this season. Should Rangers be docked points or prevented from being crowned this season as a result of their hearing on Tuesday the firm will also pay out on the eventual league winner. The West London side are 1/2 to avoid relegation next season with 16/1 the price they qualify for Europe. Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: "Anyone who has backed Warnock's side with us can relax going into the hearing. We've paid out on them winning the league and also think they have a real chance of avoiding the drop next season as well." Ladbrokes latest betting

"QPR to qualify for either European competition during 2011/2012 - 16/1" Those bookies are generous, 16-1 to finish 5th or better or win a cup ....when did a newly promote team last do that Harlow

Sorry Harlow, I beat you to it.
The last team to be promoted and qualify for Europe the next season:
West Ham United finished 9th and were FA Cup finalists 2005-06
The last team to be promoted and qualify for Europe the next season by winning a trophy:
Blackburn Rovers finished 10th and won the League Cup 2001-02.
The last team to be promoted and qualify for UEFA Cup based SOLELY on league position (no fair play, Intertoto, or any other shenanigans):
Ipswich Town finished 5th in 2000-01.

And the last team to win the Championship after being promoted was Nottingham Forest in 1978?

Premier League Betting: What goes up must come down.Premier League / Dan Fitch / 10 May 2011 /
A grim reality for any club promoted to the Premier League is that they will face a battle to retain their place amongst the elite. Dan 'The Betting Man' Fitch looks at QPR and Norwich's chances of beating the drop.
For any team that is promoted from the Championship to the Premier League, there is a small window of roughly five minutes when they can enjoy their achievement before they have to confront the fact that they will be embroiled in a relegation battle the following season.
Regardless of which teams get relegated from the Premier League and who stays up, it's a fair bet that Norwich City and the winners of the Championship play-offs will be the favourites for the drop. Promotion to the Premier League might be the ultimate dream, but it can often prove to be a nightmare.
Since the Premier League was formed there has only been one season in which all three promoted teams have stayed up, which statistically speaking is bad news for Blackpool, considering that Newcastle and West Brom are safe. Ian Holloway's team are 1.3 to be relegated.
Supporters of Championship teams might think that they'll have a great time in the top flight, regardless of how their season pans out, but it's an unforgiving league. I doubt that Derby's fans enjoyed their 2007/08 campaign much, where they amassed only 11 points and won just one game.
So can the promoted sides buck the trend next season? QPR look to have a better chance than most of staying up and not just because they have won their league at something of a canter. They are owned by some seriously rich men and if they chose to flex their financial muscles, they could attract some top quality players to the club.
However, I've been surprised at how relatively cautious QPR have been in the transfer market since they became the richest club in London. They've spent money, but haven't been reckless and have instead overseen a gradual evolution of the playing squad.
I can't therefore, see QPR spending a fortune in the same way that Blackburn did in the early-nineties under the backing of Jack Walker. Looking at their current squad, what does seem imperative is that money is spent to improve their front line. Much will be expected from the exciting Adel Taarabt, who has scored 19 goals this season, but QPR lack an out-and-out leader of the line who can be effective against the best teams.
While QPR have slowly improved over the past few seasons, Norwich have gone for the fast route. It's difficult enough for a Championship side to survive their first season in the Premier League, but when you consider that Norwich were playing in League 1 only a year ago, it demonstrates the size of the task that Paul Lambert faces.
Lambert's prowess as a manager may be their best chance of survival. He is possessed with a tactical acumen that seen his side surprise a host of Championship sides, to see his team finish second. Lambert also seems to have his squad in peak physical condition, as evidenced by the huge number of late goals they have scored this season.
For Norwich to try to buy their way to safety would be financial suicide, so they must rely on more canny purchases from the lower divisions and beef up their squad with some loan signings from within the Premier League. The Canaries have the support to eventually establish themselves as a mid-table team, but in the short term they might have to swallow a relegation and try to bounce back.
Getting to the Premier League is the easy part and even if you survive in your first season as a promoted club, the hard work doesn't stop there. Ever heard of the phrase 'second season syndrome'?

Did Reading not qualify for the UEFA cup the year they went up? Might've only been the intertoto though
