Aston Villa eye Nottingham Forest & Northern Ireland goalkeeper Lee Camp – report
Young shot-stopper has reportedly been identified as the ideal replacement for the outgoing Brad Friedel, who it has been claimed has not agreed a new deal at the club
Aston Villa have identified Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Lee Camp as the man to replace Brad Friedel, according to skysports.com
Camp has been an ever-present in the Forest side since joining from QPR in 2009 after a successful loan spell which saw him become a firm fan’s favourite.
The keeper was the club’s 2009-10 Player of the Year and is seen as one of the best stoppers outside of the Premier League.
Camp made his debut for Northern Ireland in the 2-1 Euro 2012 qualifying defeat against Serbia in late March after qualifying courtesy of his grandmother.
According to reports, under-fire Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has identified Camp as the Villans' new No.1, as current first-choice Brad Friedel, whose contract expires in the summer, has reportedly yet to agree a new deal.
The American, who has been capped 81 times by his country, has been an ever present in the Villa side since joining from Blackburn in 2008 and at 39 became the oldest player ever to play for the club back in February when he featured in the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United.
