Chelsea fans set for rise in ticket prices despite trophyless season
Hike in charges raises eyebrows amongst supporters at Stamford Bridge after an unsuccessful season on the field, yet club's top brass insist increases are justifiedBy Andrew Kennedy

Chelsea are set to increase their ticket prices by as much as 33 per cent for the 2011-2012 Premier League season, despite a frustrating campaign this year.
The rise in prices – which will see a £30 ticket increase to £40 and a season ticket in the West Stand cost £900, a £70 increase – has brought a number of complaints from the west London club’s supporters.
Speaking to The Daily Mirror, Michelle Shaw, co-vice chair of the Chelsea Supporters Group, said: “Chelsea seem to think their supporters are recession-proof – we’re not.”
Season ticket-holder Steve Burton added: “I have been going to Stamford Bridge since 1968. I never miss a home match, but this is getting ridiculous.”
Despite crashing out of the Champions League, finding themselves 11 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United and record signing £50 million man Fernando Torres yet to score, the Chelsea hierarchy maintain the price changes are justified, with a number of ticket prices frozen and the most expensive seat at Stamford Bridge still cheaper than the Emirates.
The club's chief executive Ron Gourlay said: “We believe the prices strike the right balance between the commercial needs of the club and value for money for our fans.
