The Stoke Sentinel Port Vale: Police launch investigation after Vale directors receive suspect packages By port vale steve shaw POLICE have launched an investigation after three Port Vale directors were sent suspect packages in the post. Chairman Bill Bratt, vice-chairman Peter Jackson, and Stan Meigh received the A4-sized Jiffy bags – believed to contain animal organs – at their Staffordshire homes. They were addressed to the directors' wives. Jackson and Meigh received their packages on Saturday, while Bratt's was delivered yesterday. The club's six-man board has faced protests from angry fans in recent months over their handling of club affairs, but Bratt said: "This is an unforgivable act of cowardice. "These people must be sick, especially as they sent the packages to our wives. "It's ridiculous because you wonder what type of person you're fighting. But this makes me more determined not to be bullied by them." Jackson only said he hopes the perpetrators are caught, while Meigh added: "If people have a problem with us as directors they should protest through the proper channels." It is understood Bratt's and Meigh's packages were posted from Warrington, while Jackson's was from London. A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We can confirm we're investigating incidents involving packages sent to the home addresses of Vale directors. "We seized them and they will be examined for evidence. "We want to try to find out who is responsible for these incidents which must be very upsetting for those involved." Meanwhile, Vale will aim to climb back into the League Two play-off positions when they entertain struggling Lincoln City tonight (7.45pm). The Valiants are ninth – two points off the top seven. www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/vale/portvalenews/Port-Vale-Police-launch-investigation-Vale-directors-receive-suspect-packages/article-3380947-detail/article.html

I still believe, deep down, this is Gianni's true spiritual home This is Staffordshire Port Vale: I'm here for the long haul, vows Vale's defiant new Vale chief By port vale peter smith NEW Port Vale chief executive Perry Deakin insists he had no doubts about accepting the role, despite would-be owner Mo Chaudry planning to appoint his own man for the job.The 47-year-old has arrived in Burslem with references from former bosses Jez Moxey and Karren Brady – and the task of turning the £372,649 loss Vale posted last year in to a profit. Chaudry, who is bidding to acquire a controlling stake in the club, last night reaffirmed he would bring in a "first class" candidate to replace Deakin. But Deakin, right, who takes over the day-to-day running of the club from chairman Bill Bratt on Monday, is convinced there will be no imminent takeover of Vale which will affect his appointment. He said: "I knew there had been a bid from Mo Chaudry which would involve him bringing in his own man because his offer has been played out in the media, and obviously that was a concern initially. "But after speaking to Bill Bratt and the directors, I am confident I will be here for the long haul. I am not viewing this as a short-term job. "I am not dealing with the current hostile takeover offer, but I am sure there are potential investors who I will be dealing with as part of my role." Deakin, who has worked behind the scenes in the commercial departments at Wolves, Birmingham City and Derby County, is standing down as deputy chief executive of Northamptonshire County Cricket Club to join Vale. He comes to the club near the end of a turbulent season featuring a roller-coaster promotion charge, two managerial exits and a fan-led campaign to oust the board. The father-of-one, who has been in talks with Vale since late last year, said: "Fans have a right to protest – they pay their money and they can shout when they want to. But we want to get everyone at the club, from those behind the scenes to those on the terraces, pulling in the same direction. "I understand it may take a few months, but I am confident we can get everyone moving forward as one." Bratt announced in September that he would be ending a four-year stint as chief executive that has come under increasing scrutiny. The 65-year-old, who will continue as chairman, said: "I am happy to stand aside and get a better candidate in. "I will help Perry settle in, but he already has an excellent understanding of the football industry, especially the commercial aspects. "This is a very important period in the history of Port Vale and I am certain his expertise will stand us in good stead as we plan for next season and beyond." A defiant Chaudry, below, is now waiting for an extraordinary general meeting to be called so he can press home his attempt to win control of the club.
The 50-year-old WaterWorld owner said: "This appointment is another knee-jerk reaction from the same people who appointed Jim Gannon quickly in an attempt to appease fans."I would still want to bring in my own chief executive and I am surprised the job has been taken when a takeover is on the horizon."
Chaudry also reacted angrily to a question by Ann Bratt, the Vale chairman's wife, whether he condoned aggressive protests against the board.[/u] He said: "Yesterday, the chairman's wife conveniently ignored my statement in which I said I deplored violence and called for peaceful protests. "Today the board has ignored the wishes of the majority of Vale fans by appointing a new CEO."
