Statement From CPFC 2010
Posted on: Thu 17 Mar 2011
Palace Co-owners Steve Parish and Stephen Browett, CEO Phil Alexander and Stadium Manager Kevin Corner had a very constructive and positive meeting with the Police yesterday and CPFC 2010 have released the following statement.
Obviously it is our responsibility to control our stadium. We do have a police presence inside the stadium to assist us at some games (after consultation) but the level of policing directly costs the club. Naturally we try and keep the policing to a minimum but we need the support of all fans to help keep the stadium problem free. This then means that we can spend as much of our income as possible on the academy, player acquisitions and wages, stadium improvements etc etc.
The Police officers present (Chief Inspector and two Constables) made it clear that their primary concern is public safety and what they are most focussed on is ensuring is that no-one is injured watching football at Selhurst Park.
Three main topics were discussed.
Block B (Holmesdale)
We are anxious to keep the fantastic atmosphere and noise that is created by the enthusiastic fans in block B. However there are clearly safety issues if the area becomes over-crowded and fans move from their seats during matches. There are things that we must clamp down on or the area (or part of it) will be closed.
One person per seat - we cannot have more people in Block B than there are seats. If you don't have a ticket for that area then you can't sit there.
Climbing on seats - we cannot allow people to climb on, or jump up and down on seats. They might break (16 seats were broken in Block B at the last home game) but more importantly someone could be injured doing this.
Linking of arms and swaying from side to side - this has been identified as dangerous by safety experts and could lead to injuries
Moving out of the seated area - we must by law keep the gangways and the area in front of the seats clear.
If everyone could respect the above points, which are for the benefit of public safety, then the lively atmosphere in this area can continue. Another concern is that the Stewards (most of who are Palace fans like the rest of us) should be respected for helping to keep Selhurst safe. Please do not verbally abuse them when they ask you to respect these rules.
Block V (Arthur Wait)
We successfully showed that, despite this being the closest block to the away fans, the season ticket holders who sit here have not caused any trouble. Therefore we now have agreement that season ticket holders in this block can buy guest tickets for their friends. This is on the proviso that the season ticket holder is responsible for their guest and any misbehaviour by the guest may result in sanctions against both guest and season ticket holder. This will apply for the Barnsley and Sc**thorpe games and then be considered for next season permanently.
Crowd Behaviour
As you may know, we received a warning from the FA as a result of the objects thrown on the pitch v Watford (home) and the smoke bomb ignited v Coventry (away). We have now been contacted again by the FA following the referee's report on the QPR away game.
We think that it's quite obvious that the vast majority of genuine fans were shocked by the behaviour of a small minority of so-called Palace fans at QPR. The throwing of objects onto the pitch is obviously illegal and anyone found to have done this will be banned by CPFC. The CCTV crowd footage is currently being examined. We simply cannot have a repeat of this and urge all real Palace fans to support us. An eleven year Palace supporter was hit on the back of the head by one of the bottles thrown from behind her and this is totally unacceptable and must not happen again.
