Hi guys, I hope the mods don't mind me plugging this! If so please feel free to delete. As some of you may be aware, on Thursday 14th April 2011, myself and 3 friends will be embarking on an epic fundraising challenge. We will be cycling just under 1000km from Holland to Austria. We are doing this on behalf of Scope, the charity for people with cerebral palsy. When finding out that my son, Joseph had mild cerebral palsy 18 months ago, we initially turned to Scope for help and information. The work and support that Scope offer is truly incredible. Every six hours a child is born with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is the most commonly diagnosed physical condition in the UK, and occurs around the time of birth when part of the brain fails to develop properly. It can happen to any child. Scope is the largest charity in the UK working with people with cerebral palsy, their families and carers. The money raised from the Cycle2Austria trip will allow Scope to continue running their vital services which are designed to support disabled people in every aspect of their lives from birth through to adulthood. Scope’s aim is that disabled people achieve equality in everyday life. We at Cycle2Austria have pledged to raise a total of £5000.00 for scope. If you are able to make a donation towards the target, your donation would bring us closer to our aim of raising the £5000.00, and help Scope achieve its goal that disabled people achieve equality. There are a number of ways you can make donations – you can visit our website at www.cycle2austria.com and click on the ‘sponsor me’ button. It is also possible to donate through our just giving page, which is; www.justgiving.com/cycle2austria. Alternatively you can send a cheque made payable to ‘Scope’ to Cycle2Austria, 61 Orchard Close, Alresford, Hampshire, SO24 9PY. Thank you so much for supporting the cycle2austria team, and you can follow our fundraising, training progress, photo’s and blog on our website www.cycle2austria.com. Whilst we are on the journey we will be uploading photo’s, video’s and keeping you informed of our progress. Thanks for taking the time to read this, Eskey

Also,
This Saturday at The Mall, at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol we shall be fundraising for the day. We will be there with our excercise bikes, talking to all the shoppers and passing on information on the trip and also raising money and awareness for Scope.
We shall be there all day, so if anyone is in the Bristol area (there's no QPR game, so no excuse!) please feel free to pop along and say hi!

Thanks for the support every one. Just got back from the first event, we managed to cycle 75 miles today, but more importantly managed to raise a superb £442.91 to add the the current running total. Chuffed to bit, what a weekend - was at the game last night, sat in the reading end with some friends, with randomly a QPR fan sat right next to me - it was a special night. As I have said before the reading games, are my personal biggest rivalry so its been a brilliant weekend (except for the sore thighs!)

www.natives.co.uk/go/news/Cycling-to-the-Alps.htmlFormer seasonnaire trio, Thomas Hasler, Matthew Renshaw and Lee Grant first met back in early 2006 whilst doing a winter season for Esprit Holidays in Neustift, Austria. Since then, the three have continued their friendship despite the distance between them. Thomas, from Bristol and Lee, from Hampshire have completed a total of 13 seasons between them. ‘After completing several season with Esprit and Total Holidays I felt it was time to settle down, and return to England' says Lee. ‘The great skills that I learnt whilst away, have been invaluable and helped me with finding employment upon my return'. Once he returned to England, Lee married a fellow seasonnaire, Denise, whom he met in the same season as Thomas and Matthew. A similar story applies to Matthew, from Grimsby, who also met his future wife, Fay during the same season. ‘It was an amazing six months for me, I went away to do just a single ski season during my year out, and found myself a beautiful wife and some truly amazing friends' comments Matthew. It was during Matthew's recent ‘stag do' where the trio began putting idea's together for their next adventure - a charity cycle ride to Austria. Lee and Denise's son Joseph, has mild cerebral palsy, and Scope, the UK's leading cerebral palsy charity helped the pair through the initial stage after they first found out. Thomas says ‘Scope are one of the largest disability charities in the UK and we want to support their work with adults and children with cerebral palsy.' The trip will take place in April and will see the three former seasonnaire's and Lee's brother in law, Michael cycle 1000km from Holland, through Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany then to finish in Neustift, where they originally all met. The Cycle 2 Austria team have pledged to raise £5000.00 for Scope and they need all the help they can get reaching their fundraising target. You can sponsor the team by visiting their website at www.cycle2austria.com/ or at www.justgiving.com/cycle2austria and click ‘sponsor me now'. You can also follow the team progress throughout the journey, with photo's, video's and blog's on the website.

www.austriantimes.at/news/General_News/2011-02-09/30436/English_friends_cycle_to_Austria_for_charityEnglish friends cycle to Austria for charity Four lads from the UK are embarking on a charity cycle ride to Austria to raise money for UK charity Scope. The charity specialises in supporting adults and children who suffer from Cerebral Palsy. Lee Grant from Hampshire in the south of England and three close friends will cycle from Holland to Austria, covering six countries and over 1000 kilometres. The adventure will take place over nine days in April 2011. Their final destination is Neustift, just south of the city of Innsbruck in Tyrol, Austria. The alpine village means a lot to the four friends, who formed a deep attachment to the place after spending several ski-seasons there, either working or relaxing in the mountain paradise. The men, all in their twenties, do not shy away from a challenge, and recognise that a lot of training must be done in preparation for the ride. One of the party, 25-year-old Thomas Hasler even describes himself as "overweight", while 27-year-old Matthew Renshaw's previous cycling career began and ended with cycling down to the local canal as a 10-year-old. However, the group's determination, the aim of raising money for this worthy charity, and the thought of getting to the stunning final location will be motivation enough to keep on pedalling! For more information about the team members and their challenge visit: www.cycle2austria.comwww.scope.org.ukThe boys and Scope need your support, and welcome any donation, big or small!

Training going well thanks, bit shattered at the moment - been pushing a bit too hard. Fortunately I have a VERY understanding wife, so QPR games and the fitness training have been high on the agenda recently
So far we have raised £1000 and had plenty of press coverage. Next week I have a radio interview - little nervous about that to be honest!

Yep! And this is my last weekend of training - hoping to fit about 120 miles in. Next weekend I will be spending time with the wife and kids. So far we have raised £3300 - with a further £700 coming at the finish line. We are just £1000 away from hitting the target!! Getting a little nervous now though....

No worries Jon - and thanks for the wishes.
We are using road bike, mainly due to the fact we have a support vehicle to carry the equipment/clothes etc. If we didn't have the support vehicle we would have defo gone with touring bikes.
