Catchy title? Back to the old days of Dirty Leeds!
Football League
As the final furlongs of the Football League season rapidly approach, the numerous stats at our disposal are starting to make a more telling contribution. This week we turn our attentions to discipline, revealing the saints and sinners around the country.
npower Championship
An earlier look at discipline saw Leeds United topping the Championship foul count, Simon Grayson's men continue to top the table having made 348 illegal challenges in total. That has earned the Yorkshire outfit 54 yellow and two red cards.
Coventry City follow having conceded 326 fouls in the campaign, seeing the Sky Blues pick up 43 bookings and three dismissals. Reading have given away just one less foul with 325. That has earned the Royals 41 cautions and three dismissals. Brian McDermott's side have conceded just one penalty so far, in stark contrast to Crystal Palace. The Eagles have given away an alarming nine spot-kicks.
Queens Park Rangers continue to lead the way in the Championship table, and it's refreshing to see that the Hoops are also still a fair way down the bad boys' table. Neil Warnock's men have 273 fouls to their name to earn them 42 yellow cards and four reds.
Watford have the honour of being the Championship's 'cleanest' side. The Hornets have committed a measly 232 fouls, Malky Mackay's men only earning 24 cautions for their troubles and still not seeing red. Just above are Doncaster Rovers with 248 illegal challenges to their name. Rovers have picked up 29 yellow and three red cards.
Sven-Goran Eriksson has made impressive progress since taking over the managerial reins at Leicester City, England's former boss is also keeping close tabs on discipline. The Foxes have given away 258 fouls, earning 29 cautions and just two dismissals. Special mention should also go to Sc**thorpe United, who have yet to receive a single red card this season.
Individually, Grant Holt remains the most regular sinner in the division. The Norwich City striker has been penalised by referees for 57 fouls, earning the Canaries' star five bookings and a dismissal. Leeds United's Luciano Becchio isn't too far behind having committed 54 fouls, enough to earn a place in the referee's notebook four times so far. Reading's Shane Long shares Grant Holt's foul count but he has picked up just the two bookings.
