It has emerged that Carol Konchesky referred to the club’s fans as “scouse scum” on the social networking site Facebook.
In a post on the site after Roy Hodgson’s side lost 2-0 at Stoke on Nov 13, she accused Liverpool’s supporters of living in the past and suggested her son, a £4 million summer signing from Fulham, had made a mistake in joining the Anfield club.
She wrote: “To all you Liverpool scouse scum out the never mind the Cockney ---- take a real look at you team stop living off the past the team are ---- anyone made a mistake it’s the Cockney ---- never should have left Fulham.”
Mrs Konchesky received several notes of support from friends, with one suggesting Liverpool’s supporters “did not know class when it hit them in the face” and another labelling them “clueless morons”.
A spokesman for Liverpool on Friday described the comments, which have been removed from the site, as “inappropriate” but insisted the matter should remain private
Konchesky, like Hodgson, will be given the chance to assess whether he made the correct decision in leaving Craven Cottage for Anfield when both face their former side on Saturday.
Though the former England left-back will be afforded a warm reception by Fulham’s travelling fans, the Liverpool manager — who guided Fulham to the Europa League final last season — is likely to be granted a hero’s welcome from supporters he admits it was extraordinarily difficult to leave.
“When the offer came, sentiment had to be put aside,” said Hodgson.
“[Fulham] was a good job. I was very happy living in the apartment we had owned for 10 years. I would not have moved just anywhere, but Liverpool is very special, it is an institution in world football.
“Any thoughts of comfort had to be put aside and I had to say ‘thanks for asking, I would be delighted to take up the challenge and I will do my best for you’. Hopefully the good memories from Fulham will always remain with me.”
