The People
vram Grant's had it as Dave Jones moves to the top of West Ham's hit list Nov 28 2010 By Alan Nixon, The People AVRAM GRANT is a dead manager walking – with Cardiff boss Dave Jones the new name on the West Ham hit list. Hammers chiefs are believed to be compiling a list of candidates to replace Grant, despite yesterday’s 3-1 win over Wigan. Glenn Hoddle is on that list, along with Jones, but one man now off the radar is QPR boss Neil Warnock.Warnock was a front-runner for the job but has had a long-running feud with Wally Downes, appointed West Ham’s defensive coach this week.Downes got the gig without input from Grant, and sources close to the founder member of Wimbledon’s Crazy Gang say his job is safe no matter what happens to the Hammers manager. An Upton Park source said: “It is just a matter of finding the right man at the right price – then Grant will be put out of his misery.” Jones’s record at promotion-chasing Cardiff has put him on West Ham’s radar but City would want a hefty compensation fee. Despite yesterday’s result – their first win in nine Premier League games – Hammers are still bottom of the table. re Wally Downes/Neil Warnock A West Ham Blogger "WestHamTill I Die notes: Reasons to Love Wally Downes: No 1
From Wally’s Wikipedia entry…In January 2007, Downes was involved in a touchline scuffle with Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock after he accused Warnock of telling his players to ‘break legs’. However Warnock said: “I made the kicking gesture to tell the referee that Steve Sidwell’s tackle on Chris Armstrong had been the worst of the game. Fortunately for me, the referee heard exactly what was said and confirmed that.” Downes has been charged with improper conduct for his role in the affray.[1] The incident inspired Reading fans to start a chant for the enigmatic coach, saying “Wally Downes is magic, he wears his magic hat, and when he saw Neil Warnock he punched that f**king tw*t!”. This chant has become popular for the fans of the Berkshire-based club whenever they play teams managed by the unpopular Warnock, particularly due to his teams negative physical method of play. Alredy a Hammers cult hero, eh? www.westhamtillidie.com/2010/11/28/reasons-to-love-wally-downes-no-1/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+WestHamBlog+%28West+Ham+Till+I+Die%29
