Bradford Police Constable Gareth McGreavy of the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team has begun a week placement with the Zesh Rehman Football Foundation.
Formed by the Bradford City captain in May, it offers positive opportunities for young people to aspire. A series of training sessions, tournaments and workshops encourage teamwork, discipline and leadership skills.
PC McGreavy, who is also a trained football coach, hopes his contribution will make a real difference.
“When I first heard about the Zesh Rehman Foundation on ‘Look North’ I realised the potential it could have in benefiting young people within the community.
"By offering this opportunity, it enables them to focus their energies away from the streets and into something constructive and personally beneficial.
“One of the objectives is to teach the young people coaching techniques, which they can then pass onto their peers within their own neighbourhoods. I personally have previous experience in football training and decided to contact the Zesh Rehman Foundation and offer my assistance.
“As a result, I have now begun a placement where I will be visiting schools and local community centres to encourage young people to become involved. During the sessions I will also be telling all those involved about the ‘Primary Kick About’ programmes which begin in January.”
Riz Rehman, Chief Executive Officer for the Zesh Rehman Foundation was also pleased to have the services of PC Gareth McGreavy in helping inspire youngsters.
"It was great to have been contacted by West Yorkshire Police. I am hoping our affiliation can have lasting benefits on the community and provide inspiration for youngsters to achieve.
“The Police play an important role in today’s society and I believe the Zesh Rehman Foundation's presence will help the local policing team’s connections with local youths, breaking down barriers, and encouraging a better relationship.”
Zesh Rehman is a key member of the PFA Management Committee and has already been honoured for his continued excellent work in the Community.
