Hull Official Site Payments To Agents: 1/10/2009 - 30/9/2010Posted on: Tue 30 Nov 2010 PAYMENTS MADE BY HULL CITY AFC VIA THE FA TO LICENSED AGENTS BETWEEN OCTOBER 1ST 2009 AND SEPTEMBER 30TH 2010. THE AMOUNT PAID WAS £1,235,312.14 - A FIGURE THAT IS OBVIOUSLY FAR TOO HIGH AND FOLLOWS ON FROM THE PREVIOUS YEARS' £1.8MILLION. THESE PAYMENTS RELATED TO TRANSFER AGREEMENTS INSTRUCTED BY HULL CITY IN THE SUMMER 2008, JANUARY 2009 AND SUMMER 2009 TRANSFER WINDOWS. Agents fees are now under control and substantially reduced. £3million was actually spent on agents fees between October 1st 2008 and September 30th 2010 and this is a wholly unacceptable level. TO COMPLY WITH FA REGULATIONS CONCERNING AGENTS, CLUBS ARE REQUIRED TO PUBLICISE THE ABOVE INFORMATION.www.hullcityafc.net/page/NewsDetail/0,,10338~2233907,00.html

But we had one of the highest agent fees for years in our league and that was down to having a chairman like GP who wanted to try and build a team useing agents other than scouts. It failed,

Don't they have agents in Chicago?

They're the unofficial inducements that a club gives to a person representing a player in the hope that the player will come to their club or stay at it. When a player moves the agent gets a piece of the action - Being from Chicago, let me put it like this...... Mafia offers you your life or your loyalty and a percentage of your income, which do you choose? Sorry mate, but Football agents in my opinion are the scum of the modern football game, free loaders that hold clubs to ransom and have players believeing they are better than they are and worth more than they are.

See I was wondering if its the same way with baseball/football/hockey agents. Here, the player pays the fee for the agent negotiating his contract. Agents usually get like 4% of the contract. Now, whether or not the club/team withholds that amount from the final contract and gives it to the agent or the agent is paid this sum directly from the player I'm not entirely sure about. We could be talking about the same thing here. Just presented a different way.
Or...
Does the club have to pay the agent a fee simply just for the opportunity to discuss a contract with the prospective player?

Bit of both I believe but I could be wrong. Agents to football are like a working girl to a john, they suck you dry then spit you out!

No. Not QPR!Brentford Official Site AGENTS' FEESPosted on: Wed 01 Dec 2010 Under the Football Association's Agent Regulations Clubs are required to make public the total paid to authorised agents and exempt solicitors during the period October 1 2009 to September 30 2010. Brentford Football Club paid £75,626.72 to authorised agents and exempt solicitors between October 1 2009 and September 30 2010, an increase of £7,526.72 on last years published figure of £68,100. Andrew Mills, Brentford Football Club Chief Executive Officer, said: "Once again, on reflection, I, on behalf of the Board of Directors and Executive Team of Brentford Football Club, remain confident that all negotiations on behalf of the Football Club are done so in a prudent and constructive manner within our budget. "Once the published figure is adjusted to reflect general consultancy fees the total spend for the period was £44,571.33 as oposed to last years adjusted figure of £43,000. "We have built a squad of players over the summer paying agent fees on 12 player negotiations, which divided over the total amount is representative of our frugal approach to player recruitment costs in a highly competitive market www.brentfordfc.co.uk/page/LatestNews/0,,10421~2234947,00.html

And Brentford Update Brentford Official Site - WEDNESDAY'S PRESS TALK Posted on: Wed 01 Dec 2010 Brentford chief exec Andrew Mills has revealed boss Andy Scott's summer re-shuffle cost the club £75,600 agents' and solicitors fees. The figure - calculated from October 2009 to September 2010 - is £7,526 more than the same period the previous year - and increase of 10 per cent. Scott brought in Nicky Forster, David McCracken, Gary Alexander, Pim Balkestein, Richard Lee, Craig Woodman, Michael Spillane, Toumani Diagouraga, Simon Royce and Kirk Hudson on permanent deals in the summer. And Mills insists the Club, which also brought in Robbie Simpson and Ben Hamer on long-term loans, has got good value for money. "Once again, I remain confident all negotiations on behalf of the football club are done so in a prudent and constructive manner within our budget," he said in a club statement. "Once the published figure is adjusted to reflect general consultancy fees the total spend for the period was £44,500 as opposed to last year's adjusted figure of £43,000. "We have built a squad of players over the summer paying agent fees on 12 player negotiations, which divided over the total amount is representative of our frugal approach to player recruitment costs in a highly competitive market." Your Local Guardian -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In his first major interview since joining Brentford, chief executive Andrew Mills tells the Chronicle about his seven 'intriguing' months in charge at Griffin Park. Budget I met the Board recently about the budget and remain comfortable the level we operate at is reasonable for our ambitions within this division. The numbers I hear banded about are ridiculous. There are a number of teams who, whether because they've been relegated from a higher division or otherwise, have significantly increased budgets on ours. We come around 10-12th in the league, last year we were 14th. When I look at Huddersfield, Charlton, MK Dons, Southampton and Plymouth, they haven't got anything more tangible than we have so far despite having much bigger budgets. We have a sensible approach. We will not risk the long term future of Brentford Football Club for one year of glory as some others have in the Premier and Football Leagues. www.brentfordfc.co.uk/page/LatestNews/0,,10421~2235140,00.html

Good for the Bees.
Although my real concern is over the vast sums paid to players who, by definition, and according to their Clubs' accounts, cost far more than their anodyne performances will ever be capable of earning.
The biggest losses at the most successful Clubs merely confirming this lunatic state of affairs.
