South Wales Echoe QPR trip set to be cracker Nov 22 2010 by Our Correspondent, South Wales Echo QUEENS Park Rangers away on Saturday. That’s going to be a cracker. I have watched QPR a couple of times and they don’t strike me as a team who are going to surge away from the rest and claim automatic promotion. They are superbly organised, have good players and their defensive record is the best at Championship level. The R’s are also still unbeaten, home and away, after 18 matches and are top of the table, two points ahead of Cardiff City. But Neil Warnock, I’m certain, knows Cardiff City hold the attacking aces. I heard him on the radio saying the Bluebirds’ have the best front six in the division. But we also know Cardiff City have frailties. Attacking wise, this squad are capable of going anywhere, Championship or Premier League, and making an impression. But defensively right now City aren’t doing as well as maybe they should be. If they can emulate or even get close to the Leeds United performance they will blow anybody in the Championship away. That 4-0 win at Leeds, live on Sky, made Cardiff City the talk of the country for a few hours. I was in Manchester at the time and it seemed everybody near me was talking about Cardiff City and that win. Cardiff City have set high standards. We all hope they will go close to those standards at Loftus Road on Saturday. There are 2,500 City fans making the trip and I hope they have a great day out. Cardiff won that one. That was our bad year (Season Allen axed/Gordon Jago took over) and Cardiff were looking good for promotion. Sadly they didn't make it!
But earlier that season, we crushed Cardiff 4-0 in the League Cup at Loftus Road...I think it was John Toshack's last game before being sold to Liverpool

Dave Jones expects real scrap at QPR
Nov 26 2010 by Terry Phillips, South Wales Echo DAVE Jones has warned his Cardiff City players they face a tough, physical battle against a never-say-die Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road tomorrow. The sell-out match features the best two teams in npower Championship football and the Bluebirds will return to the top if they can end Rangers unbeaten league record this season. It will be a tough battle, it always is at QPR, said Jones. They are a big, physical team who also have quality players. Watch Cardiff City star Adam Matthews preview Saturday's crunch clash at QPR They have a never-say-die attitude and you know they will keep going to the death. They score goals late in games and we have to be aware of that. They were 2-0 down at Derby County and scored two goals in the last minute to draw 2-2. That shows what they can do. I can understand the excitement. Its top against second and billed as the biggest game of the season. We want maximum points and that would put us back on top of the table. The Bluebirds will be followed to London by 2,500 fans, who will want their team to put the heartbreak of successive home defeats, against Swansea City and Nottingham Forest, behind them. City have earned more away wins six in nine trips than any team in the Championship and, also with QPR, are top scorers with 33 so far. If we play to our full potential we are capable of beating anybody, said Jones. My philosophy in football has always been to head to the top and thats where we want to be. Jones is confident he will be able to strengthen his Cardiff City squad, saying: Ive been asked to gear up for the January transfer window. The Bluebirds manager is keen on a centre-half plus a centre-forward to challenge Jay Bothroyd. There may also be decisions to be made on Bothroyd, Chris Burke and Gavin Rae. None of the three have agreed new contracts and their current deals run out next summer. Malaysian investors Dato Chan Tien Ghee and Vincent Tan are ready to back Jones in January and there could be two or three new players coming in, plus some going out on loan. Ive been asked to gear up for the January window and Ill continue to look at that, said Jones. Hopefully well be able to get players in by the time that comes around. Everything seems to be going right at the football club and if we get players in it will be good news for us. Cardiff City are unlikely to make any more loan signings as they already have five and thats the maximum number they can have in their team for any one match. The loan players are captain Craig Bellamy, Seyi Olofinjana, Danny Drinkwater, Andy Keogh and Jason Koumas. Cardiff City players currently out on loan: Aaron Morris (Aldershot), Solom Taiwo (Dagenham and Redbridge), Miguel Comminges (Carlisle United) and Anthony Gerrard (Hull City) Jonathan Meades is back from his spell with FK Moss in Norway, while Nat Jarvis has returned from Southend United. www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2010/11/26/dave-jones-expects-real-scrap-at-qpr-91466-27719423/

CARDIFF OFFICIAL SITE
CITY PREPARE FOR TOP-TWO CLASH It's a top of the table Championship clash this weekend as the Bluebirds head to undefeated Queens Park Rangers. Simon Glanville has the preview for what should be a thrilling fixture. QPR team news: Shaun Derry will return to the QPR squad after missing their victory over Preston due to suspension. Rob Hulse will be looking to keep his place in the starting line-up after scoring his first foal for the club against the Lilywhites. Akos Buzsaky has returned to light training following surgery on a torn knee cartilage, but is still some way short of a first-team comeback. QPR's season so far: It's been a fantastic start to the season for Neil Warnock's QPR. The Super Hoops have hit the ground running and, along with the Bluebirds, have been setting the division alight since August. QPR's first eight games yielded a fantastic twenty-two points, although they have suffered a slight dip in form since. Warnock's men remain the only undefeated club in the division, but have had to settle for draws on no less than eight occasions this term. Their win over Preston last time out was only their third in ten, but they still lead the table thanks to their fantastic start to the campaign. Last meeting: QPR 0-1 Cardiff City Dave Jones will be looking for a repeat result from the last time we met QPR, when the Bluebirds left London will all three points thanks to a late Joe Ledley goal. Ledley finished from Mark Kennedy's cross to fire the Bluebirds into the play-offs and leave the Super Hoops still with a mathematical chance of relegation. Teams from last meeting at the Loftus Road on 17 April 2010:QPR: Cerny, Leigertwood, Ramage, Tosic, Gorkss, Buzsaky, Ephraim (Parker 84), Priskin, Taarabt, Faurlin, Simpson (Cook 83). Subs not used: Vine, Hill, Oastler, Putnins. Bluebirds: Marshall, Kennedy, Gerrard, McNaughton, Blake, Burke (Etuhu 67), Whittingham, Ledley, McPhail, McCormack (Chopra 63), Bothroyd. Subs not used: Enckelman, Gyepes, Matthews, Wildig, Capaldi. Attendance: 12,832 QPR last time out: QPR 3-1 Preston North End QPR returned to the top of the Championship table after overcoming struggling Preston last Saturday. A close-range finish from Rob Hulse set the hosts on their way, with two stunning efforts from Adel Taarabt putting them in cruise control. An own goal from Matthew Connolly did give the visitors some sort of consolation, but they left London well-beaten. QPR: Kenny, Hill, Hall (Rowlands 81), Connolly, Gorkss, Walker, Taarabt, Faurlin, Clarke, Mackie (Andrade 88), Hulse (Agyemang 80). Subs not used: Leigertwood, Ephraim, Helguson, Cerny. QPR Official SiteTHE FRIDAY PREVIEW: BLUEBIRDS Posted on: Fri 26 Nov 2010 This is it ... QPR versus Cardiff City at Loftus Road, as the top-two go head-to-head in the npower Championship. Clashes between the two Clubs have always been fierce given the recent history between the sides, but - with the close proximity of the R's and the Bluebirds in the table - many are predicting something extra special on Saturday afternoon. Whilst Rangers sit top of the table with their unbeaten start to the season stretching a remarkable 18 matches, Dave Jones' side are hot on the R's heels in second spot. Just two points currently separate the two sides, with the R's enjoying a far superior goal difference, which could yet be crucial come the business end of the season. The Bluebirds head into the clash in W12 in mixed form, having suffered two defeats in their last four outings. However, with a front three - consisting of Messrs Bothroyd, Bellamy and Chopra - that is the envy of the Championship, Rangers face arguably the sternest test of their season to date. It really does promise to be a cracker. The Numbers Game *100 - The number of years that Cardiff spent at their former ground, Ninian Park *9-2 - The Club's record League victory over Thames in the Third Division South in February 1932 *148 - The amount of times record-goalscorer Len Davies found the net for the Club *39 - The squad number worn by Bluebirds Captain Craig Bellamy *£4million - The record fee paid for Michael Chopra to Sunderland in 2009 *26, 828 - The capacity of the Bluebirds' Cardiff City Stadium home The Pre-Match Talk Neil Warnock: "There are just too many left to say this is the vital match. "But I'm thrilled it's a sell-out, and our defence will know they've been in a game, although we've also got the resources to score goals." Dave Jones: "It's a massive game, but all games we play at this moment are massive. "It'll have a bearing on the season, but it's not going to be the be-all and we know how we get carried away in this part of the world. "But we want to get back on track, we know we haven't played well in the last game." Derry - back in the frame DERRY BACK FOR HOOPS Q.P.R. 11/10 Draw 12/5 Cardiff 12/5 Shaun Derry returns to the QPR side for the top-of-the-table clash with Cardiff. Combative midfielder Derry missed last weekend's win over Preston through suspension after collecting five yellow cards this term. Bradley Orr is also available after a three-match ban but is likely to be on the bench with Tottenham loanee Kyle Walker performing well at right-back. Striker Heidar Helguson is fit after a neck injury but Rob Hulse should get the nod up front after opening his goalscoring account for Rangers on Saturday. Tommy Smith could be added to the squad after missing out last week but Georgios Tofas (hamstring), Akos Buzsaky, Peter Ramage and Lee Cook (all knee) are still missing. Mikele Leigertwood, Rowan Vine and Josh Parker all left Loftus Road on loan this week. Cardiff manager Dave Jones hopes to boast an almost fully-fit squad for the top-of-the-table clash. Influential winger Chris Burke (thigh) and defender Lee Naylor (groin) missed last weekend's disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest while Kevin McNaughton and Darcy Blake emerged with muscle injuries. The quartet will be assessed ahead of the Loftus Road encounter, as will midfielder Stephen McPhail who was ruled out due to illness. Several members of Cardiff's squad have struggled with the virus at the start of this week, while manager Dave Jones battled through last Saturday despite suffering. But the bug appears to have been shaken off in plenty of time for the eagerly-anticipated clash. Forward Craig Bellamy will captain the Bluebirds having earlier this week admitted he is finally getting back to full fitness for the first time since his loan move from Manchester City. www.sportinglife.com/football/nationwide1/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=nonwire_soccer/10/11/26/manual_100255.html

BBCNpower Championship Venue: Loftus Road Date: Saturday, 27 November Kick-off: 1500 GMT Coverage: Watch highlights on The Football League Show; Listen on BBC Radio 5 live and BBC local radio; text commentary on the BBC Sport website TEAM NEWS QPR midfielder Shaun Derry is available again after serving a suspension, as is Bradley Orr, while Heidar Helguson has recovered from a neck strain. Tommy Smith is back after missing out against Preston because Rangers delayed renewing his latest one-month loan deal so that he is available over Christmas. Cardiff City will assess Lee Naylor (groin) and winger Chris Burke (thigh). Stephen McPhail is among several players who have been affected by a virus, but he should be able to play. MATCH PREVIEW In 2003 these clubs battled for promotion from the third tier, with Cardiff winning a play-off final through Andy Campbell's extra-time goal. Now they occupy the top two places in the Championship and are battling for promotion to the top flight. Leaders Queens Park Rangers are the Football League's only unbeaten team and are closing on the club record of 20 matches without defeat. They face arguably the biggest threat to that record so far in the shape of second-placed Cardiff, who have won seven of their last 10 league matches and are unbeaten in five away games. These sides are the Championship's top scorers, having both netted 33 times this season. But QPR also boast the League's best defensive record, having conceded only eight goals and kept an unrivalled 11 clean sheets. That defence is likely to be tested by the likes of Craig Bellamy and Jay Bothroyd, while Rangers have their own matchwinner in the shape of Adel Taarabt and will go five points clear at the top of the table if they are victorious on Saturday. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • Cardiff have managed a total of one goal from their last four meetings with QPR, but have won on three of their last four visits to Loftus Road. 606: DEBATE Have your say on this match • They have not drawn at QPR since 1952. Queens Park Rangers • Only three of the eight goals QPR have conceded this season were scored in the first half. • Rangers have the best home record in the division, with six wins and 21 points. • Kaspars Gorkss is set to make his 100th appearance for the west London club. Cardiff • Cardiff have won 11 Championship matches this season - more than any other team. • The Welsh side are averaging two points per game (36 from 18), and are conceding, on average, a goal per game (18 in 18). • City have the best away record in the division, with six wins and 19 points. • They are the only team yet to concede a penalty in the Championship this season. • Kevin McNaughton is in line for his 150th league start for the Bluebirds. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_div_1/9220874.stm

Jones looking to end Hoops unbeaten run By Michael Morris Friday, 26th November 2010
Dave Jones is hoping his Cardiff City side can become the first team to beat Q.P.R. this season.
Victory at Loftus Rd would take City back to the top of the Championship and would improve their already impressive away record. Cardiff have won six of their nine away league games so far this season.
Jones knows nothing will be settled tomorrow but he acknowledges it is a massive game.
"Hopefully we can break that unbeaten run and get the victory we want. They'll want to keep the record, but we want to take it away," said Jones.
"We are going there to try and get maximum points and to try and grab top spot.
"It's a game which will have a bearing on the season, but it's not going to define the season.
"We might be coming up to halfway, but this game is not going to decide anything at this moment.
"Top against second might be billed as the biggest game of the season so far, but we've had 18 others as well.
"Everybody is looking forward to it. and I can understand the excitement," Jones continued before the team headed down the M4.
"QPR have got good players. They are unbeaten at the moment so they must be doing something right.
"They have turned losses into draws and draws into wins and that's what they have been doing all season.
"We will have a tough battle, but we always have a tough battle when we go there. They are a big physical side.
"I'm sure they will be pulling out all the stops, just as we will, to try to get maximum points."
Cardiff will be backed by 2500 supporters at a sold out Loftus Rd.

And of course "The Fire Alarm" qprreport.blogspot.com/2008/04/when-fire-alarm-rang-out-in-cardiff.htmlAnd after QPR Report Twitter Feed Monday, August 21, 2006 "Fire Alarm" Neil McNamara's April Jail Sentence A (non-QPR related) news item from April re "Hotel Fire Alarm" Neil Macnamara which didn't at the time get noticed by QPR Report. BBC - April 1, 2006 Ex-minder is jailed for tax dodge An ex-minder of Cardiff City FC's owner has been jailed for using fake business names to avoid a £100,000 tax bill. Cardiff Crown Court heard Neil MacNamara paid no income tax, national insurance or VAT on money for providing security services to pubs and clubs. McNamara, 42, from Nantgarw, south Wales was sacked in 2002 as Sam Hammam's bodyguard after it emerged he was a convicted football hooligan. He was jailed for a year after admitting cheating the Inland Revenue. Prosecutor Timothy Godfrey told the court on Friday that MacNamara "was in effect cloning the identity of four legitimate companies. "He issued invoices in these companies' names but the company addresses were false." The offence is so serious you will have to go to prison. Judge David Wynn Morgan Mr Godfrey said that over three tax years, between 2000 and 2003, MacNamara had made a profit of more than £160,000. The interest on his unpaid tax bill had now reached £17,000 bringing the total owed to the Inland Revenue to £117,000. MacNamara pleaded guilty to four counties of cheating the Inland Revenue. Defending, Richard Twomlow, said the father-of-three did not profit very much from his fraud. "He is not a rich man," he said. "He owes money and did not become wealthy from this scheme." In 1999 MacNamara began working for security firm Unisec but his employment ceased after "widespread and unfair coverage" of a criminal damage conviction, Mr Twomlow said. MacNamara was found guilty in 2003 of causing criminal damage and giving a false fire alarm at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport. The life-long Cardiff City football fan was given a five-year match ban after magistrates in Abergavenny decided that the crime was intended to disrupt rivals Queens Park Rangers before their play-off game against Cardiff City. But after his appeal Cardiff Crown Court later said there was insufficient evidence to prove the incident was connected to football and lifted the ban. Mr Twomlow said MacNamara had decided to set up a legitimate company, Guardian Security, after he was jailed in 2002 for six months for driving a stolen sports car and for possession of a can of CS gas. 'Sophisticated cover' But the court was told the Inland Revenue was already investigating MacNamara's business dealings and he was arrested in 2004. MacNamara was sacked from the Cardiff City security team when details of his previous convictions emerged in 2002. Judge David Wyn Morgan told MacNamara: "The offence is so serious you will have to go to prison. "It was a relatively sophisticated cover using the names of legitimate companies to keep £100,000 of the Inland Revenue's money." BBC From BBC June 19, 2003 Ex-soccer minder admits hoax "...A former minder of Cardiff City Football Club owner Sam Hammam has admitted setting off a fire alarm in the hotel where a rival team was sleeping before a crucial match. Neil MacNamara, 39, of Nantgarw, south Wales, set off a fire alarm at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, in the early hours of 25 May. Queens Park Rangers players were staying at the hotel before their Division Two play-off final against Cardiff at the Millennium Stadium later that day. MacNamara pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and giving a false fire alarm. But he denied the offence was football-related in the hearing at Newport Magistrates Cour. Paul Moore, prosecuting, said: "There will be legal argument as to whether the offence was football-related. "It will be the prosecution's suggestion this was football-related and we will invite a banning order. "This will be opposed by the defence." He was released on unconditional bail to reappear at the court on 16 July, when another hearing will decide whether the hoax was aimed at the QPR players. Some 200 people had to leave the Celtic Manor while the alarm was investigated. The QPR players were able to stay inside as they were sleeping in a different wing of the hotel. The alarm went off at 0300 BST, 12 hours before QPR's play-off final kicked off at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, which the London team lost 1-0 in extra time. ... BBC

A year BEFORE the fire alarm "incident" Article re Sam Hamman's "Minder" Wales OnLine I'm sorry, says Sam's minder 14:50, 11 January 2002 By WalesOnline CARDIFF City chief Sam Hammam's minder claims he is a reformed character. CARDIFF City chief Sam Hammam's minder today claimed he is a reformed character. Neil MacNamara, 37, has just finished a 12-month ban from every football ground in the country for soccer violence. The father-of-two, who was seen walking around the Ninian Park pitch with the Bluebirds' owner following last Sunday's controversial FA Cup tie against Leeds United, is known to the National Criminal Intelligence Service's unit which deals with football violence. Last night he was sacked as a security guard at Cardiff City by security company Unisec. But Hammam has given his full backing to MacNamara and says he has no intention of sacking him as his personal bodyguard. Today, MacNamara apologised for the adverse publicity he has brought to the club. "There has been no suggestion that I have done anything wrong since I started working for the club," he said. "I admit I was involved in one incident in Blackpool two years ago, but may I also state that it was an argument with some lads on a stag night outside a bar on the seafront and not football related. "Cardiff City FC were aware of my conviction, but felt, as I do, that I could be an asset to the football club. "The security company I was working for was contracted to provide security for the licensed bars which were opened at Cardiff City. "I started working there and was then asked to look after Sam Hammam as he walked round the pitch during matches. "I am well-known among regular fans and believe that, because of my long-standing association with the club, I am well-equipped to deal with any problem which may occur. " have a good relationship with the club's safety officer and feel I have done a decent job. There has been no suggestion that I have done anything wrong since I started working for the club. "I am a lifelong Cardiff City fan and have been attending Ninian Park since the early 1970s. I therefore consider myself a genuine supporter. "I am sorry for any embarrassment caused to my family, Mr Hammam and Cardiff City Football Club." Hammam said last night that he had known about MacNamara' previous conviction for several months. "ac is like a poacher turned gamekeeper,"he said. "e knows how to handle certain situations. He knows what is going on in a fan' mind. He knows how to handle it and how to keep them quiet. "Poachers can become the best gamekeepers. I have no worries about Mac." A joint investigation has been launched by the Football Association and the Football Association of Wales into the violence that marred Cardiff City's victory over the Premiership giants. A top-level summit was being held today in London between the FA and the FAW to decide what charges will be brought. www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/im-sorry-says-sams-minder-1981404
