He denied the charge, and escaped with a three-match ban and a £1,000 fine after he sent a former Chief Superintendent and two club directors to fight his case at the disciplinary hearing. "We did put a lot of work into the case," new chairman Richard Thompson said.
He was sold to Crystal Palace the following year
