 Our International Members Inc Mongolia!
« Thread Started on Oct 18, 2010, 7:57pm »

I thought it would be good idea to have a thread for some questions to our International members!
I wondered if they could give us a brief insight in how they come
to support QPR and ended up in the countries that they now reside!
I'm assuming some would have grew up in the UK and moved
abroad and others have lived in their respective countrys since birth!
Could you tell us how QPR was the club for you and what age !
What it is like supporting QPR in your country . ???
What friends and family make of it you supporting the Hoops ! ???
If you wanted to come and see a game how it would cost ! :o
How easy it is to see coverage of the Hoops ! :o
The last one what one thing do you miss the most in England ! 8-)
If you get chance to put a few pointers down would be most interested.
I love reading the posts from some of you guys and lets face it true dedication when QPR k.o. for some of you it is halfway through the night ! :-*
I raise a glass to our Internationals ! ;D

Good set of questions, Harlowranger.

And of course as the map showed, there are a lot of people who read but don't post - and their QPR stories would be fascinating to hear, also.

Wales here! Certainly one of the folks who have moved abroad, 3 weeks ago in fact! :P
Hardly anyone likes football here- all rugger folks.
Dad's an R's fan, been going for 10 years now.
£15 for tomorrow, if you exclude the cost of my bus pass. And £21 for Friday. Not too shabby.
Pretty easy to watch the highlights on iplayer ;D
Miss most in England? Not being 4 hours from Loftus Road would be good

Or was I not who you meant? ;)

Looks like that Swansea move has improved your fantasy futbol :o

Harlow my dad was stationed in England back from '70 to '73. We lived between Manchester & Liverpool and most folks cheered for United or Liverpool so me being a kid wanting to be different I started backing QPR. Of course if Rodney, Rodney, Rodney had been at Manchester City already when we moved over, I may well have been backing them until they were bought out by the Dubai folks :-[ Not a fan of Dubai but that's another story :-X

p.s. I miss those fish & chips wrapped in newspaper ;)

Was at school in Scotland and picked QPR as my second team after collecting them in Pannini stickers. No particular reason for choosing them other than I liked the strip. It was about 1978-79 so I wasn't exactly a glory hunter. I went to see them as often as I could when I was in the UK and have supported them from afar ever since. I happen to work with a fellow QPR fan here in NZ. Loved supporting them through the ups and downs, mind you I had the same tribulations with my other team (Airdrie), must be a glutton for punishment.

I watch as many games as I can on the internet (not exactly perfect but no other option), but it does mean having to get up at 3am, mind you it was worth it when that second goal went in against Palace. It's amazing how drunk you can get in two hours of football if you really put some effort into it!!

Any Airdrie fan deserves respect. I remember watching them on some old videos in the 90's that a mate had.

We were good in the 90's, 2 Scottish Cup finals (lost to both sides of the evil empire) and qualified for the Cup Winners Cup against Sparta Prague, lost 1-0 at Airdrie and 2-1 in Prague. Pavel Nedved made his debut and I didn't even know (I was far too wrecked). Things have changed a wee bit since then though.

100 quid for the coach there and back and that included the ticket to get in!!!!!! Three days on that bloody stinking coach are three days I'll never forget, wouldn't change it for anything though.

I used to watch Match of the Day, with Brian Moore in black and white at least 40 years ago. I took an interest in UK football and decided to follow and support a club. As fate would I decided on QPR. I have never been outside OZ. I tell a fib, I have been to Rotnest Island 12 miles off the coast of Perth. ;D ;D

I grew up in London...

Then went overseas: First to a kibbutz in Northern Israel as a "volunteer" for what turned out to be 2 years...

Then a little more time

Then college in the USA

Then Washington DC:

But I do expect to return (or make more frequent trips) once I've completed my purchase of the club.

And believe me: When I own the club, I will bear neither ill will or malice towards anyone. (Or perhaps don't believe me!)

Onwards and Upwards

Addendum:

All my life (or at least until a few years ago), I thought the world was divided into two (not at all equal parts): There were QPR supporters. And there there were non-QPR Supporters. Those were the only two options.)

Not "good" supporter and "better" supporters -

Not supporters who should speak; and supporters who should listen...

Not supporters who had supported for decades. And neophyte supporters fresh to the club.

Just one QPR supporter

All those fogged windows...all those dusty cars...all those beaches and snowfalls in all parts of the world, where the magic three letters were etched out with a finger or a stick...

:-*

But this is a good thread:

Some may believe there are multiple tiers of supporters - or perhaps a pyramid of supporters - in which those who have ties to the club/or live nearby, or go to most or all games (home and away) are the TRUE QPR Supporters whose views are most valid, etc, etc, etc.

No question that someone who was physically at a game can better comment on that game than someone who wasn't at that game. But apart from that, no.

So this site truly believes that, near and far, that we are all equal. And not "Some are more equal than others"

I can only thank G-d to Al Gore for inventing the internet. :D For all us overseas followers: It has made our lives immeasurably better :-*

Born in St. Mary Abbotts, when it was a hospital. Dad and his family lived off Blomfontein Road. When I was born we moved to Lancaster Road, Notting Hill, that was in 1954.

Pop, who worked at White City Dogs, took me to my first game in 59-60 I think. Supported the hoops since then. The glory years were in the third division. The football was great and expectations were low.

I used to sit outside the Smuts with a lemonade and a packet of chips waiting for the family to have a drink.

De-cenralisation in the 60's took us to Portsmouth, back to London, out to Basingstoke and back to London.

Stuck with the hoops although if they were playing away and Chelsea were at home we would go to the shed. (Gone now?)

You must remember that we were no threat to Chelsea in those days and the supporters were allies aginst any team from North of Luton.

Moved to Melbourne late 1974, saw my last game at the Loft just before that.

Sort of forgot about football for a while and last year found my old QPR scarf in a drawer. Decided to get back into it. Looks like I picked the right year so far...

Really miss Cookes' on a Saturday.

Favourite players in the early days were Ron Springett (I was a goalie), the Morgan brothers and later Rodney.

Go you R's.

Born in Islington in 69 but moved to Watford straight away. First saw Rangers in 76, there was no other team I wanted to support, both my dad and grandad were Qpr supporters. Went to as many midweek games as possible whilst growing up. Couldn't go on Saturdays as I played rugby from age 11 til I left England. Moved to France in 2000, had a season ticket a few years later as I was back every 2nd week or so but then it became too costly. Get to about 6 games a season now.

Not sure I would have enjoyed living in France so much without Sky Sports (sad but true). Only one other QPR fan around where I live (that I know of).
Everytime I come over to watch Rangers it costs me a bloody fortune but I also get to see family and friends so it's worth every penny.

My introduction to football (soccer over here) came through winter afternoons on the terrace at Chesham United with my maternal Grandfather and uncle from the age of 6 up. I went to Wembley to see them play the Amateur Cup Final against Leytonstone, and still have the programme. My father's side of the family were strong QPR supporters, and I followed in their footsteps from age 7. Thus I am at least a third generation QPR supporter, and my oldest son is at least fourth generation.

People in Canada know some of the Premiership clubs and understand that there are a lot of football teams in England, arranged into leagues and divisions. I usually have to explain to them that QPR is one of the oldest clubs and they presently play in the division just below the Premiership.

QPR is the main club supported in our family, although some family members by marriage support Arsenal, Sunderland and Chel$ea. Sadly.

For me to come over to see a game would cost at least 700 pounds. I try to get to LR when I am back, but often my travel is out of football season, or I am flying out on the Saturday (cost).

I follow the Hoops through the internet - Match threads on LoftForWords and here, BBC, Radio London when I can get it. I don't subscribe to QPR Player. If they introduced a video feed of the game I would be interested.

And the one thing I miss the most in England? - Other than the utterly amazing girl that I found, lost and then left behind 30 years ago... it has to be the scenery around Hemmingford Abbots, and a great pub lunch near the river.

Met an American girl the other day.. big into her MLS, Philadelphia Union fan. Had heard of QPR, was aware that we were playing Swansea and how both teams were faring. Said she'd called football football if the yanks wouldn't assume she meant the other sport where you throw it and have lots of ad breaks. Brings a smile to your face ;)
But then she said her English team was Liverpool, and I felt sorry for her ;D
