The man whom the Official Site hasn't even mentioned in some six months! Yann Tear/Uxbridge Gazette
Mahon makes QPR comeback Oct 18 2010 By Yann Tear GAVIN Mahon could make a shock return to the QPR first-team at Swansea after being given the chance to prove he still has a future at QPR with a month-by-month contract. The midfielder, who suffered a knee injury at the end of last season, did not have his contract renewed when it expired at the end of last term. But the 33-year-old has been allowed to keep training at the club and now boss Neil Warnock is prepared to give him a chance to prove his worth. That opportunity might come sooner than expected because Akos Buzsaky has not travelled with the squad to south Wales today for tomorrow night's clash with Swansea City. www.uxbridgegazette.co.uk/west-london-sport/qpr/2010/10/18/mahon-makes-qpr-comeback-64767-27494712/

Now on the Official Site MAHON RE-SIGNS WITH QPR Posted on: Mon 18 Oct 2010 Gavin Mahon has re-signed with QPR, penning a month's contract with the Club after making a successful return to fitness following a knee problem. The combative midfielder suffered the injury in November and, with his QPR contract expiring at the end of last season, Manager Neil Warnock allowed the 33-year-old to complete his rehab at the Club's Harlington training ground before offering him a new deal earlier today (Monday). Mahon told http://www.qpr.co.uk: "The last few months have all been about getting fit, and I am really grateful to the Manager for letting me train with the Club, and complete my rehab here. "He said to me in the summer that he liked me, but I would need to get myself fit first. This contract is like a trial really, I just have to prove myself." "I had to be patient with the injury. I would have loved to join in for pre-season but it wasn't an option. "I have been working hard with Carl Serrant (QPR's Strength and Conditioning Coach) and my fitness levels now feel good." Mahon is relishing the opportunity to rejoin the First Team squad, which he believes has a lot of similarities to the group of players he captained at Watford when they won promotion to the Premier League in 2006. "Team spirit is so important if you want to be successful," he added. "We had it at Watford and the lads here have all gelled brilliantly. "The gaffer has brought in the right sort of players, and there is a fantastic spirit amongst them." Warnock said: "Gavin has worked very hard since I came to the Club. He is fit and deserves this opportunity. "He has got a lot of experience and is a great lad to have around the place. I have been very impressed by him. "We will just have to see how his situation develops." Mahon is expected to travel with the rest of the First Team for Tuesday evening's Championship fixture at Swansea City. www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2188174,00.html

More to the point - why has Mahon hung around?

How s Faurlins injury? Is he ready?. Now Mahon could add a spark, which is interesting historically because after he knocked out last year the slide began.
But his rust and lack of any playing time is a risk.
I would give Legs another shot, but adjust the front by playing either Smith or even Walker somewhere and also bring Orr back. Swans dont give up much and we dont give up much. We need two quick goals and shut it down. .

Faurlin cover is one. A bit susceptible to injury in the NPower bashabout, and this is an example where he can do that. Also I see a Buzz sell off coming up. At least on my crystal ball.

With all the Briatore-never-left suggestions, wonder how much money Warnock truly did have to play with this summer. And whether he would have spent more, if he'd been given the money.

Macmoish wasn't there a comment from Warnock at the start of the season, where he alluded to "behind the scenes problems" affecting transfers and he was hinting at a takeover, or maybe that was "mythical" as well!

I am pleased for Mahon. Contractually the injury could not have come at a worse time. They said they would give him a chance, I thought it was just lip service, but Warnock has been true to his word, so fair play to him.

How can you throw someone into a game when he hasn't even played a reserve/friendly match in almost a year. (And I too liked Mahon)

He will not start, surely. Perhaps bench for a few games, on if absolutely necessary (like with Rowly)

Not being funny but our entire bench will consist of players Ring Rusty or injured at this rate ! Instead of a bench we'll need a bl-oody double decker !

I'm glad he's still around. Even at 33. A cameo appearance, last season before the injury he was hoilding the midfield together with Rowly. i wonder how he would go with taarabt beside him or Faurlin.

I remember something like that. And I looked and couldnt find. But it's there somewhere! Mahon would seem to be exactly the Warnock-type player... Just a matter of fitness, etc.

Where's Rowlands, he was on the bench a few weeks ago? He got a tweak in his hamstring Cheers samp99. Didn't realise. I ncredible to think we now have Rowlands, Faurlin and Buzsaky who aren't fit and have to rely on someone who was supposed to have left the club. At the beginning of the season you would have looked at that position and thought with those player in our squad we could afford the odd injury and still have a strong central midfield.
