Update: Lincoln job goes to Steve Tilson
Good luck to him, regardless of how he did in his second stint at QPR
This is Lincoln
Harford and Thompson the final candidates to be interviewed for Lincoln job
MICK HARFORD and Steve Thompson will today stake their claim for the Lincoln City manager's job as the race to succeed Chris Sutton reaches its conclusion.
The Echo understands the pair are the final candidates on the club's shortlist and the Sincil Bank legends will be interviewed this afternoon.
Bookmakers Victor Chandler have priced the duo at 4/1 to land the job thanks to support from some fans who believe their knowledge of the lower leagues is ideal for the Imps.
But ex-Southend boss Steve Tilson still remains the favourite for the post having been interviewed just hours before City's 2-1 League Two victory against Macclesfield on Saturday.
Former Doncaster boss Dave Penney and current Darlington chief Mark Cooper are also ahead of Thompson and Harford as the bookies changed their odds on potential candidates yesterday.
But the duo will hope their emotional bond and iconic status with the club will give them the advantage and are understood to want to bring the 'feel-good factor' back to the city.
Lincoln's struggle at the bottom of League Two is a pale imitation of the glory years they experienced under Colin Murphy in the 80s when City embarked on one of their most successful spells in their history.
Harford has been out of a job since leaving Championship QPR in March, when his role as caretaker boss was ended by the appointment of Neil Warnock.
But he has managed Rotherham and Luton during an illustrious career which has spanned 33 years.
Thompson, who was Harford's team-mate at Lincoln, has not been in football management since he left Notts County three years ago when he was controversially sacked.
Once City's hierarchy have heard what the duo have to say, they will enter final discussions regarding the appointment, with an announcement expected before the weekend.
Meanwhile, City have been warned against a move for John Coleman despite interest in the Accrington boss cooling in the last 48 hours.
Chief executive Rob Heys said that Lincoln would be "wasting their time" trying to entice him to Sincil Bank.
"I think now we have the improved offer in, as far as we're concerned that is the end of it," he said.
"John and Jimmy have indicated to us that they are very happy here, so Lincoln would very much be wasting their time.
"John is just having the contract checked with the LMA. They were due to come back to him yesterday.
"It is a standard manager's contract so we don't expect any problems
