appasp.shepherdsbushw12.com/server/app/forum/ShowMessage.asp?ID=656450 Topic: Help save 30-52 Goldhawk Road from demolition Posted by: Mr Coll McDonnell Date/Time: 20/09/10 11:42:00 It has come to my attention that Hammersmith and Fulham want to make "improvements" to Shepherds Bush market. While some of the suggestions may be welcome the Planning Brief proposes the demolition of 30-52 Goldhawk Road. (A full copy of the draft planning and regeneration brief can be viewed on the Local Plan pages of the council’s website) At the moment this row of shops does not look much. (This is in part due to the fact that late last century Hammersmith and Fulham enforced the removal of cornicing on "health and safety grounds".) But the reality is this terrace was built in the early to mid nineteenth century and they are good examples of Victorian shops. The fact that they have fallen on hard times is no reason to have them demolished. Rather this should be seen as an opportunity to have them restored to their former charm. The Planning Brief suggests relocating the businesses to within the redeveloped market. But this terrace of shops brings atmosphere and community to the Goldhawk Road. Not one of these shops is part of a chain - many are family firms - and the Pie and Mash shop has been in that location since 1899. It would not be the same to simply relocate them. There is a real danger that we will be turning a vibrant and interesting (if somewhat rundown) part of Shepherds Bush into something bland and average. The Planning Brief goes on to describe 30-53 Goldhawk Road as being of a 'scale that is no longer appropriate for this part of the Goldhawk Road townscape'. But the height of this terrace is very much part of their charm. We have lost much good architecture in the area, such as Shepherds Bush station, in recent years. Lets stop the destruction of yet more good buildings. Please register your objections by email at SBMarket@lbhf.gov.uk or call Jackie Simkins in the council’s planning department on 020 8753 3460.
The deadline for the council to receive responses is 5pm on Monday, October 11.

Double Double with Liquer for me. IMO, not the greatest quality Pie & Mash & slightly overpriced IMO, but any Pie & Mash shop is better than a fried chicken shops, it must be one of the very few, maybe even the last authentic shop / business in the area which is daly nothing more than an arab district nowadays. On that basis alone it must be saved.

Also would I be right in suggesting that Cookes featured in one of the greatest British films of alltime, Quadrophenia ?

Soon all signs of authentic London will have been completely erased from the history books by the Cultural Marxists. Pie & Mash shops are an authentic part of Londons history which is something that will never be true of Fried Chicken shops.

I may be an aussie, but we go back to our roots. Tonight for my dinner, a Pie, mash potatoes/pumpkin, peas and *** Worcestershire sauce. Pure bliss.

Gone will be places with an atmosphere and in will be sterile places of the PC variety. A sad truth. Bring back Carnaby Street of the 60's and 70's and early 80's.

Most of the Worlds famous cities celebrate their history & culture, whereas it feels like the Marxists pursue a "year zero" ideology at all costs with their talk of "vibrancy" "diversity" & their favourite calling card "the community" we all know what these terms mean, Communism for the 21st century.
The next time you see a Pie & Mash shop, go in and have a plate, it is a part of your / our history & if the Cultural Marxists have their way will be brushed under the carpet to be forgotten about & replaced by Halal Butchers or Fried Chicken shops.

Pie & Mash shops are part of the historical fabric of London, so they are obviously something that the historical revisionists & Marxist local councils in London would rather see the back of, after all London hasnt got enough Halal Butchers or Fried Chicken shops has it ?
Any right minded Londoner would defend a Pie & Mash shop out of principal, especially this one in its historical context in the film Quadrophenia, do the Who's record company know about this situation ? Last time I went down Cookes, was a few years ago on a cold winters morning, & no complaints about the grub, but I have to say the price left a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth, not having a pop, I support the shop & will make a visit next time I am up at Rangers, but did think it was a little pricey for double double & liquer.
