The best start to a season record that we currently are getting compared against 1947-48 was some start to a season , but really havnt we bettered it already on goal difference ! First 7 games 19/21 pts (if you base as 3pts win )same as now ! The goals scored was 18 for and 3 against so realistically surely this is better than 1947 ! Season started as follows QPR 3 NORWICH 1 BRIGHTON 0 QPR 3 BRISTOL R 0 QPR 1 QPR 2 BRIGHTON 0 QPR 2 NORTHAMPTON 0 NOTTS C 1 QPR 1 ALDERSHOT 1 QPR 4 Very weird how you used to play the reverse fixtures in some cases 2 weeks apart! Continued as QPR 4 NOTTS C 1 QPR 1 CRYSTAL P 0 QPR 3 EXETER 1 TORQUAY 1 QPR 1 QPR 3 SOUTHEND 2 QPR 0 SWINDON 0 13TH GAME FIRST LOSS SWANSEA 3 QPR 1 14TH GAME SECOND LOSS So 14 games , 2 losses in our current point format equates to 32 points from 42 pts after 14 games ! Heres our Target Boys ! On a serious note going back pre 1947 was there an even better start ?anybody know? Does anybody on the board who has a relative that can still remember the 1947 season ? Who was the star players of that season , i have some old programmes passed down a generation but they only start around 1960 , im going to dig them out this afternoon and see what was the oldest one ! On a different note what is the oldest programme you currently have ?

Thanks for the input London ! Find it truly amazing you were their fantastic . You must have truly seen some tremendous players in the hoops over the years ! I struggle to remember anything earlier that the mid seventies team which has always been my favourite with PARKES, THOMAS,GILLARD,MASSON,GIVENS , BOWLES, LEACH,WEBB,McLINTOCK BOWLES etc to me this team will always remain with me forever . Always found it hard to find out personal memories of beyond these days as my grandad was the reason i was an R, he moved from London to Harlow but passed away before i found out all the really old stuff ! My Dad took me but was always a Wolves boy at heart so hes no real knowledge! ( only ever bleats about how good wolves used to be before my time !) Thanks for input london what season do you think you saw your first game !

1943. War League. We used payers on leave or werent in war and often players from other teams would be loaned out for the match. One player on our team was an ARP, Air Warden, the attendances werent that great. Once in a while someone in crowd was used to fill in. Never was there personally though for that.. My avatar is the trolleybus that went down scrubs lane to Uxbridge Rd from Harrow Rd.
(The non footballer on my post was Ernest Bevin who was the Secretey of Defence in the government).

Excuse my ignorance London would not have known this ! A bit crafty of you ! Sounds surreal , a totally different ball game ! Typical attendance in those days would have been ? How did the attendances vary from Pre war , during and a couple of years after ! Thanks very for the input !

I do not go back that far my first game was 1959 but I had the pleasure of knowing through my father Arthur Jefferson and Albert 'Smudger' Smith although I knew him as Bert. They were both great men and thought the world of Rangers.

Somehow I never paid attention to attendance, It always seemed packed on Sat matches but for a kid a crowd is a crowd but a very orderly one, since I never remember feeling scared. Earlier on tho in 40s tons of empty seats. My mum and dads family lived near Notting Hill, Oxford Gardens off ladbroke Grove. I have an aunt now that lives up Campden Hil road near that fantastic fish and chip shop. Dave Mangnall was the manager those years but couldnt hold team together when we were promoted. Had to sell to stay in biz, Reg went to Man c for biggest fee ever, Powell, Ivor sold off and Cyril Hatton also. We got some decent players in, but were punching above our weight in 2nd div. Awful.

Actually not boring the right wing is Danny Boxshall but next to him I cant place, thought it was Ramscar but it aint.
During War, HARLOW THEYD have names like Sergeant Heathcote, or Cpl Swinfen, and players from other teams on leave like a WBA or Bolton player for us which I have on this piece of program somehow saved with my 1948 Olympic programs. Ronski did you get to see any of the Olympics?

My recollections of the Derby game was that they scored a offside equaliser and gave us a good hiding in the replay although we only had ten men.

Was at Ist leg at Loftus and crowd was heavy. see it was all terraces and one stand the precursor ot ellerslie.so ocer 24 thousand was possible. Remember Johnny Hartburn scoring our goal , he was the Taraabt of that era,
Up at Baseball ground we listened to Raymond Glendenning. We imploded. Reg got his hand broken and had to play on wing, I think George Powell went in goal but they got 5. No subs for injury those days.
Before war crowds varied but heavy compared to now. In George Goddard era we drawing high and remember that was our first Whit City tour in those years crowds could be up to 50 000. Imagine that many supporters!. We played Cardiff in Ninian Park away and thy could get 50 000 in also.
Our second White City tour in 60s was not succesful at all. But best crowds in our history were at Park Royal before world war 1 which was a massive stadium. Park royal and white City were better known for the Dogs than football.

Allen was a force that few teams could solve. He was big agile and sure handed . Quicker than Seaman but not as rangy or as exciting as Parkes, He has to rate as one of the top goalkeepers of QPR all time. the other bloke, need more data Loneg.

Welcome ronski. The fellow next to Danny Boxall, was George Stewart. Due to the loss at Derby, and the number of injured players, Dave Mangall immediately signed George Stewart, a inside forward, from Brentford.
