[Edit another year!] "On This Day" in 1970... 52 years ago today: Barry Bridges played his last game for QPR vs Bristol City at Loftus Road - We then sold him to Millwall where he had another good season moved on to Brighton I think I "may" have mentioned, that he was one of my QPR Favourites! (I saw his first game for QPR vs Manchester City at Loftus Road. I saw his last game for QPR.) QPR 2 Bristol City 1 (13,367) I think Chris Garland scored for Bristol City. Marsh and Bridges scored for QPR. (As I recall it, and could be wrong was a typical Bridges running on and lobbing it over the goalie) Parkes Clement Hunt Sibley Hazell Francis Venables Ferguson Marsh Saul Bridges And from Bushman below /b]
It was The New Wilmington Hotel in Eastbourne.

Another in a series of surreal moments for QPR that season: QPR playing the First Division Champions at Loftus Road. The QPR Team against Manchester City: Kelly Hazell Watson Sibley Harris Morgan Keen Sanderson Morgan Allen Bridges Bridges scored on his QPR debut and ended the season as joint top goalscorer (with 8 goals from 28 games - including in QPR's last game of that relegation year: QPR's 1-2 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.) The following season, the former Chelsea and England forward, Bridges scored 21 goals in 38 league games + 3 cup goals. A forward line of Bridges, Rodney Marsh and Frank Clarke was devestating that year. Bridges played his last game for QPR against in September 1970 Bristol City (Scoring) before joining Millwall in September 1970/ (* As I said a favourite of mine! )

I loved watching Barry Bridges, I believe he was an English schoolboy sprinting champion, certainly one of the fasted players around at the time. Nine times out of ten at kick off the ball would go to Marsh would would plant a ball long and wide for Bridges to sprint onto which he would invariably get and create a chance. I was very upset when he left as I thought it was too early (I think Jago sold him? - did a winger called Barry Salvage/Savage come the other way?). As it turned out it was the start of a special time for QPR as a new younger team took shape but I remember getting frustrated seeing Barry Bridges doing well for Millwall!

Barry Salvage came to the club from Millwall in February 1971 on a three months trial. Salvage played his first game for Rangers in the reserves on the 24th March 1971 against Oxford Utd. He made his 1st team debut away to Watford 27th March 1971. Barry Salvage died in Eastbourne, East Sussex, as a result of a heart attack while competing in a charity run on 14 October 1986. He was 38 years old.

Thanks Bushman, amazing how some parts of the memory work but other bits get muddled up! I remember Salvage as being slightly built but a real trier and not a bad winger. I enjoyed watching him, how sad that his life ended at such a young age.

I don't think I knew that Barry Salvage had died (or maybe I forgot). When was this?
His "Highlight" at QPR was after we sold Marsh, we played him and Mike Ferguson on the wings. Francis and Busby in MIdfield and went the remaining 12 games of the season undefeated.
