Let's hope the club remember to renew the deal on time...
R'S TIE UP SMITH LOAN DEALPosted on: Thu 09 Sep 2010
The Club is delighted to confirm the loan signing of Portsmouth livewire Tommy Smith.
The 30 year-old attacker has put pen to paper on a loan deal which runs until the January transfer window.
As part of the deal, Smith will become a QPR player on January 1st 2011.
Speaking exclusively to
www.qpr.co.uk, Smith - who has extensive experience at both Premier League and Championship level - said: "It's nice to be here.
"Neil Warnock played a big part in my decision. He has got a great record, and the Club have made an excellent start to the season. It's something I want to be a part of.
"It's a stable Club with ambition, and you can see what they are trying to build here.
"I know I will have to work hard to get into the team because they have started very well. If I was a player in the side I would be expecting to hold onto my place, having not lost. I understand that.
"The Manager has told me to bring competition in for places, and that's what I intend to do."

A player who has already enjoyed a spell at the very top level of the professional game, Tommy Smith started his career at Watford.
Born in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, the frontman's most successful period in his career to date would arguably come at Vicarage Road, where he featured for the Hornets in two promotions to the Premier League.
The 30 year-old has enjoyed two separate spells with the Golden Boys, and would depart for his first move away from the Club in 2003 having racked up 126 starts and 34 goals, moving north to join Sunderland.
Smith would spend only a year in the North East, making 41 appearances and scoring eight goals, as the Black Cats reached both the FA Cup Semi Final and Championship Play-Off Final, opting for a move to Derby County in 2004.
The striker's first goal for the Rams would incidentally come against QPR in a 2-0 August victory for County at Loftus Road. Smith would spend two years in total at Pride Park, clocking up 97 starts and scoring 21 goals.
It was in 2006 when Smith would return to his native Watford, teaming up with Aidy Boothroyd who had led the Club back into the top flight the previous season.
His 139 appearances and 28 goals in his second stint with the Hornets were certainly eventful. The frontman would score on his second debut versus Arsenal, while an FA Cup Semi Final, relegation campaign and a Championship Play-Off Semi Final defeat were all to follow.
The striker moved to Portsmouth in August 2009, signing a four-year contract at Fratton Park and making his debut in a 1-0 home defeat against Manchester City. He would go onto make 22 appearances, scoring one goal.
Smith's versatility makes him a prized asset, with the attacker able to function across the entirety of the frontline, as well as out wide in midfield.
