Roberts: I'll still give my all for Blackburn Rovers

JASON Roberts has promised Blackburn Rovers fans ‘I will always give 100 per cent’ for the club after the closure of the summer transfer window left him in Premier League limbo.
The powerful striker was named in Rovers’ 25-man Premier League squad yesterday after surprisingly remaining at Rovers but admits the extent of his future involvement is still uncertain.
Roberts has not been involved so far this season having been made available for sale, with both the club and the player agreeing a move away would be best for all concerned.
Rovers had expected a Premier League club, understood to be Wigan, to make a move on Tuesday but, with no bid forthcoming, his immediate future lies at Ewood Park.
Roberts though insists he doesn’t have a problem with staying at the club and has vowed to continue to give his all for as long as he is contracted to Blackburn Rovers - with his deal due to expire at the end of this campaign.
He said: “This is football. I was sitting and waiting for phone calls telling me what was happening. At the end of the day if something can’t be done to suit both clubs and the player then nothing can be done. That is how it was.
“For me it is not a problem, not a problem at all. I am a Blackburn Rovers player and if the club wants me at any point I will do my best and will do everything I can for the team.
“I am comfortable with continuing where I am and I am comfortable with what I can do here. I will do my best, train hard and continue to be as professional as I can be. At the end of the day though, football is about opinions.”
The relationship between Roberts and Allardyce appeared to have taken a turn for the worse during Rovers’ pre-season tournament in Sydney, with the striker not playing any part since.
He did however appear in Monday’s 3-3 reserve team draw with West Brom, scoring the final goal, and insists he will continue to give his all for Rovers.
He said: “Football is all about opinions, I know that and I have no problem with that. I honestly don’t believe I have got anything to prove.
“All I can do is keep doing what I have always done.
“I scored more league goals than all our other strikers put together last season and I am comfortable with my record of five goals in 15 starts. I believe I can still score goals in the Premier League and will look to do that if I get the chance.
“It is up to other people to pick the side. All I can do is work hard, turn up for training and I of course will continue to do that. I have got no problem here.”
The loan transfer window does reopen for Championship sides and below next week but it is understood Rovers are unlikely to consider letting Roberts go now – with him making up their full complement of four strikers.
Roberts said: “I have no clue what will happen.
“Obviously I haven’t spoken to the manager yet because we haven’t trained since the close of the window.
“I am a Blackburn Rovers player and I have always been available for selection and will continue to be.
“My job is to play football, I have a contract to do so and have done that at Blackburn Rovers for the last four years. Nothing will change as far as I am concerned.”
Rovers have named a 21-man Premier League squad after Lars Jacobsen’s move to West Ham was confirmed yesterday. Under 21 players did not need to be named, leaving four available spaces should any free agents attract Rovers’ attention.
