Although if they're going to list a "Classic" past match, surely there could be only one of three games - The 1948 Cup games versus Derby County OR the 1969/1970 Fa Cup game...OR tHe 1975 5-1 win at Derby, thirty five years ago this week. QPR Official Site NEXT: DERBY COUNTY QPR OFFICIAL SITE THE FRIDAY PREVIEW: RAMS Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010 Unbeaten QPR head to Pride Park - the home of Derby County - on Saturday afternoon, aiming to extend their three match winning run in the npower Championship. Neil Warnock's men have enjoyed a fine start to the 2010/11 campaign, and will be hoping to prolong their stay at the summit of the division with victory at a stadium which has proved to be a happy hunting ground in recent years. The R's are unbeaten on their last five visits to the Rams, having won three and drawn two, including last season's memorable 4-2 victory in front of the live TV cameras. Derby, meanwhile, have made a less than ideal start to their campaign, with one win and two defeats from their opening three fixtures in the second tier. Nigel Clough's men currently occupy 16th place in the Championship table. Star Man Robbie SAVAGE - Midfielder Love him or loathe him, few can deny Robbie Savage has enjoyed a fine career in the professional game. A dogged and determined midfielder, 'Sav' - as he's affectionately known in the game - gives his heart and soul whenever he steps foot on to the field of play. A veteran of over 500 appearances, the Welshman will be keen to build on a productive 2009/10 campaign, which saw him scoop the Rams' Player of the Year award, after appearing in every single Championship fixture. The Pre-Match Talk *Bradley Orr, QPR: "It will be a very tough test. "It's a tough place to go, but we're looking forward to it and hopefully we can produce the goods again like we did at Sheffield United." *Robbie Savage, Derby: "I think we can beat QPR, I really, really believe it. "I am sure everyone at Loftus Road will be feeling exactly the same, that's the beauty of the Championship and how open a league it is." Classic EncounterDerby County 2, QPR 4Coca Cola Championship - Saturday 24th October 2009 The R's fought back from two goals down to earn a stunning victory at Pride Park in front of the live BBC TV cameras. Trailing 2-0 to goals from Paul Dickov and Robbie Savage, Rangers responded in emphatic style to gain further ground on the Championship's front-runners. Adel Taarabt sparked the revival with a delicious right-footed free kick, before the outstanding Gavin Mahon drew Rangers level seconds into the second period with a tidy close-range finish. The comeback was complete just before the hour, when Jay Simpson bagged his sixth goal of the campaign with a well-taken low drive. The R's even had the luxury of a late fourth courtesy of Akos Buzsaky's spot-kick, as Rangers jumped into the play-off zone in style. Sport.co.uk Championship clash of the week: Derby County V QPR Posted by Sport.co.uk on: 27 August 2010 - 14:23 Author: Richard Cutcher It is only fitting that Sport.co.uk's first featured Football League match should include QPR. The early pace setters of the npower Championship are one of only two teams in the league to still have a 100% record (the other being League Two's Torquay United), and they face the inconsistent Derby County at Pride Park tomorrow. After defeats to Cardiff and Coventry City, The Rams have been marooned on three points since their impressive opening day victory at Elland Road (Leeds first opening day defeat since 1989!). Derby County The Rams have somewhat of an injury crisis in the attacking third. Rob Hulse (achilles) is likely to miss out once more, while Chris Porter faces a late fitness test on his long standing hip problem. With Steven Davies out for the long term, left-back Dean Moxey is likely to deputize up front again after netting in the defeat against Coventry last weekend. Alternatively Nigel Clough could turn to youth product Callum Ball, after the striker got on the score sheet against Sheffield United reserves in midweek, although in reality it is more likely Ball will have to settle for a place on the bench. Russell Anderson remains on the sidelines with a groin strain so Dean Leacock will continue to partner Shaun Barker at the heart of the defence. 18 year-old Conor Doyle looks set to continue in place of the talented Tomasz Cywka as the latter recovers from his fractured jaw. Likely Line Up: (4-2-3-1) 1. S Bywater, 2. J Brayford, 3. G Roberts, 4. P Green, 5. S Barker, 6. D Leacock, 8. R Savage, 10. K Commons, 16. J Bailey, 21. D Moxey, 23. C Doyle Queens Park Rangers Warnock's charges have yet to concede a goal in the Championship and the experienced gaffer has seemingly added some much needed organization to a team blessed with an abundance of flair. Jamie Mackie, Hogan Ephraim, and the 'Moroccan Wizard' Adel Taarabt will look to continue their creative work behind target man Heidar Helguson and it will be imperative for the Rams defence to get to grips with the Rangers front four early on. It remains to be seen whether Akos Buzsaky will be able to dislodge the deep-lying midfield duo of Shaun Derry and Alejandro Faurlin on his return from injury. There is no doubting the Hungarian's talents but Warnock is likely to stick by the old management mantra of never changing a winning team. With skipper Fitz Hall continuing to struggle with a hamstring injury, Matthew Connolly should continue to partner Kaspars Gorkss in the centre of defence. Likely Line Up: (4-2-3-1) 1. P Kenny, 2. B Orr, 3. C Hill, 4. S Derry, 7. A Taarabt, 9. H Helguson, 11. A Faurlin, 12. J Mackie, 13. K Gorkss, 16. M Connolly, 25. H Ephraim. Key Battle Adel Taraabt has been in scintillating form for Rangers so far this season, and the Rams will be hoping the Moroccan has a long overdue 'off day'. The fans favorite set up both the Hoops' goals against Sc**thorpe on Saturday, and Rams skipper Robbie Savage will undoubtedly feel it will be up to him to nullify the flair player. Sitting deep in midfield, Savage and midfield partner James Bailey will have their work cut out to close the exact space in which Taraabt thrives and delivers his most devastating contributions. If Savage and co can achieve what three other Championship midfields have yet to so far, then Derby will give themselves a fighting chance. www.sport.co.uk/features/Football/1254/Championship_clash_of_the_week_Derby_County_V_QPR.aspx

BBC Derby v QPR Live text and stats Content will update automatically Saturday, 28 August 2010 Npower Championship Home Team Score Away Team Time Derby v QPR 15:00 DERBY QPR Possession * Derby 50% * QPR 50% Attempts on target * Derby 0 * QPR 0 Attempts off target * Derby 0 * QPR 0 Corners * Derby 0 * QPR 0 Fouls * Derby 0 * QPR 0 Npower Championship Venue: Pride Park Date: Saturday, 28 August Kick-off: 1500 BST Coverage: BBC Sport website, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC local radio & highlights on The Football League Show TEAM NEWS Derby County are short of strikers, with Rob Hulse (Achilles) and Chris Porter (hip) doubtful, and Luke Varney having completed a move to Blackpool. It means left-back Dean Moxey is poised to play up front again, while Thomasz Cywka may replace Conor Doyle despite recently fracturing a cheekbone. QPR have been assessing Fitz Hall following his hamstring strain. Hall may be fit to return but Matt Connolly is likely to keep his place after impressing against Sc**thorpe. MATCH PREVIEW Top of the table, having won their opening three league matches for the first time in 63 years, and yet to concede a league goal, QPR head to Derby with recent history as well as the form book on their side. Rangers have won on their last two visits to Pride Park, and have won three of their last four away matches against the Rams. Their last loss at Derby - 1-0 at the Baseball Ground in February 1990 - is their only defeat in nine trips to face the East Midlands club. Derby have lost their last three matches, but can take heart from the way they nullified QPR's dangerman Adel Taarabt when these teams drew 1-1 at Loftus Road in March. Midfield enforcer Robbie Savage joked on Twitter after that game that he would let Taarabt out of his pocket. The question is whether Derby, or any side, will take a similar approach when they are at home to the R's. And for that reason, QPR boss Neil Warnock believes Taarabt could be even more effective in away matches this season. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • Since their first league trip to Derby in 1967, only one of QPR's visits has ended in a goalless draw. 606: DEBATE Have your say on this match Derby • A defeat for Derby would mean three consecutive league losses for the first time since October last year. • Goalkeeper Stephen Bywater is set to make his 250th career start. Queens Park Rangers • QPR are the only team yet to concede a goal in the Championship this season and one of only two League sides with a 100% record. The other is Torquay. • Three points would make this Rangers' longest winning sequence since seven victories in a row under Ian Holloway in September and October 2004. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_div_1/8940387.stm

Clough warns his side to keep close eye on QPR dangerman TaarabtNIGEL Clough says Derby County have to be aware of the threat of Queens Park Rangers' star man Adel Taarabt. Rangers arrive at Pride Park Stadium today top of the Championship with a 100 per cent record from three games. Taarabt has already made a big impact with his displays, just as he did last season while on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. He scored from a free kick and pulled the strings when Rangers recovered from two-down to beat Derby 4-2 in October last year. Rams skipper Robbie Savage man-marked the 21-year-old attacking midfielder when the teams drew 1-1 at Loftus Road in March. Taarabt had a much quieter game that night, although it was his raking pass that set up Lee Cook for Rangers' goal in stoppage time at the end of the first half. Rangers boss Neil Warnock expects teams to pay close attention to Taarabt and believes the player could have an even greater impact in away games. "I actually think Adel will blossom more away from home than at home, as daft as it sounds, because teams have to have a go at us," said Warnock. "Savage marked him out of the game down here last season so it will be a good test for him at Derby, but I think we've got enough in our locker to let Adel go for a walk and let somebody else take over." Taarabt, a Moroccan international, has scored twice in three appearances this season and was outstanding in the victory over Sc**thorpe United last weekend. "We have to be aware of him because whenever he is on the ball he is looking to affect the game," said Clough. "But it is not all about him, Rangers have other threats as well. "They have not conceded a goal in three games and their confidence will be high. We expect them to come out of the blocks quickly. "They've scored in the first half of every game so far. They start quickly and then become very difficult to break down, so we cannot afford to give anything away. "They are one of those teams, like Blackpool last season, who when they get on a roll they become very difficult to beat. "We played them at Pride Park last season when they were on top of their game. "We were 2-0 up and a free-kick just before half-time got them back in it when Lee Croft turned his back on the end of the wall." www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/sport/Clough-warns-close-eye-QPR-dangerman-Taarabt/article-2580491-detail/article.html

Dean prepares to face familiar foe at Pride Park as Mackie arrives in townDEAN Moxey is hoping Derby County can keep out his former team-mate, Jamie Mackie, when Queens Park Rangers visit Pride Park Stadium today. Moxey played alongside Mackie during their time with Exeter City, when the Grecians were in the Conference. Now Mackie lines up for QPR, having joined the London club from Plymouth Argyle for an undisclosed fee in May. The 24-year-old forward was a one-time target for Rams boss Nigel Clough and hit the winner when Derby travelled to Home Park last season. "I know Jamie well," said Moxey, who joined Derby last summer. "We beat Plymouth when he came up to Pride Park last season but, unfortunately, he scored the winner down at their place, which he didn't shut up about! "It will be nice to see him again but, hopefully, he won't have anything to shout about this time." Mackie has scored twice in QPR's first three Championship matches and Neil Warnock's men have made a 100% start to the campaign. "They are a good team and it will be a tough one for us," said Moxey, who attended the funeral of another former Exeter colleague, Adam Stansfield, on Wednesday. "They have signed a few players over the summer and strengthened their squad. "They've started well but we think we can match them – and beat them at our place. "Neil Warnock is a good manager and always seems to get the best out of any team he is in charge of. "Any team that comes to Pride Park is going to give us a battle but we think we can come out on top." Moxey, a left-back by trade, made his first appearance of the season against Coventry City last weekend, in an unfamiliar forward role. However, he looked at home in the position and scored his first goal for the Rams, albeit in a 2-1 defeat. Moxey would ultimately like to dislodge summer signing Gareth Roberts at left-back but, for the time being, is happy to play anywhere. "I love playing football and I just want to be out on the pitch," he said. "Ultimately, I want to be playing in my position, at left-back, but whatever position the gaffer puts me in, I will try my hardest. "I'll play anywhere he puts me – I'll play in goal if he wants me to. "Gareth has been playing well and I've got no qualms about him being in the team. "I've just got to keep working hard, doing my training and, hopefully, I'll get my chance." Now he is off the mark in a Derby shirt, Moxey is hoping to chip in with a few more goals. "You can't rely on one or two people to score all of your goals," he added. "You look at good teams and midfielders are scoring goals as well as strikers and even defenders are chipping in with a few. "It's good to spread it around and I'd love to score a few more before the end of the season. "Against Coventry, the gaffer put his faith in me and I repaid him with a goal but we didn't get the three points, "This weekend, I would happily take a scrappy 1-0 win." www.therams.co.uk/news/Dean-prepares-face-familiar-foe-Pride-Park-Mackie-arrives-town/article-2580490-detail/article.html
